woo-whooooo. What a playoff game with Texas taking the series lead 3 games to 2. Not exactly an error free game though. Murphy's Law showed up big time. I liked the Napoli interview afterwards... I don't remember seeing a player tear-up like that but not have his voice crack. I have one suggestion to ML managers... with all the crowd noise don't rely on a phone call to the bullpen to get the right name for the pitcher the manager wants to sub in... text it or something.

Thats the funny thing about baseball. With all the technological advancements available, baseball chooses to stay static to some degree.

Football has an extravagant radio systems that delivers playcalling into the quarterback, but baseball still relies on crazy handsignals delivered from the bench to the 3rd base coach to the runners/hitters. The remaining human element and potential for human error in baseball is partially why I love it so much.

Rain out today.

I like the Cards in game 6. They have Carpenter on the mound, and they can't play as bad, or at least LaRussa can't manage as bad, as they did in game 5.

I like the fact that baseball is old fashioned like that without the high tech stuff. I do think umpires could use instant replay at their discretion, but I don't want managers challenges like in football. I mean, the umpires are already using it, when there's a very close, crucial call, they will huddle up, and one of them will glance at the jumbotron showing the replay and see if that helps. Let's just make it official.

Would like to see them find a way to make the game a bit quicker. If you go back from about 1920-1980, games were 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Now they are often three hours, or longer. LaRussa seems to be the master at stalling and stretching games out. Not sure what the solution is, but three and a half hours for a baseball game is getting too long.

I hope Garcia can put on another no run performance. Then force a game 7 where Carpenter can pitch again on short rest. And then win!

It definitely helped that there were a bunch more complete games before the modern closer. Now we have la russa changing pitchers 4 times a game with a visit by the pitching coach during each appearance. There is a rule that pitchers have 30 seconds to deliver to the plate (I think its 30 could be less) or the ump calls an automatic ball. Actually enforcing that rule might be a start...

But for now im just hoping for a great game. I want the rangers to win the series, but I also don't want the baseball season to be over tonight; leaving me without my top2 sports until the TDU

I've always rooted against the Rangers because of their link to Dubya, but I'm also enjoying Nolan Ryan getting his dreams trampled on (at least for the time being). I recall a news item back in the early '80's that reported that Ryan was allowing the Reagan administration to use a runway on his farm in Arkansas for arms shipments to the Nicaraguan Contras. I'm curious, red, if you could shed some more light on this for us.

I never heard of Ryan owning a farm in Arkansas...I do think the Rangers have a sulphur stink on them that will never go away..That whole organization is a shrine to public corruption..It used to just be a bad baseball team..and btw ..The rangers owners wanted Ryan to run for governor in 94.. Dubya was seen all but crying that they didn't choose him. The world would be a different place now..

yeah Alpe you missed a banger of a game!

This has been the best world series since Angels/Giants in '02, and even though I'm pulling for the Rangers I am thrilled we still have one more night of baseball left.

Drama wise, that was the best world series game e v e r. And it doesn't matter to me who wins the series. Not the most perfect game ever (without mistakes). But all the drama with the Cards' multiple comebacks on the last out... the last strike. And Texas losing wasn't for lack of effort. That is amazing stuff that will be remembered forever no matter who wins the series.

Now, no matter who wins game 7, it will be dramatic. If STL prevails, the game 6 comeback to take game 7 will be the buzz. If TEX wins, the talk will be all about rebounding from game 6, and overcoming the past 8 years or so where the home team has always won the series, which would be history-making in itself.

i am just about to watch the replay (i'm thanking my lucky stars that he's out of town this weekend because he hates baseball)... i even made myself a greek salad as my eating greek olives (long story) seems to have brought the Cards luck in 1982.

yes, i am actually rooting FOR the Birds, not just against the Rangers (which i admit i would do anyways).

okay, it's started. thank god for ESPN America!

OMG!!!

i seriously didn't realise that happened in the 9th -- holy $hit, what a game!!!

OMG indeed. That was utterly ****ing unbelievable. Imagine all the highs and lows that the crowd went through. It's really looking like the Cards are meant to win this.

My ESPN is certainly showing game 7, starting at 1:30 and I will certainly be watching. I can't imagine that the Belgians wouldn't show it!?

Otherwise, you're welcome in Amsterdam. :D

Carpenter to start tonight on 3 days rest. Last time he did this, he gave up three runs in the first three innings, several more hits and was gone. But I expect LaRussa to use almost his entire staff. I think he's expecting Carpenter to pitch like this is an all-star game, and he needs 3 innings from him, maybe 4. Then he can bring in Jackson for 1-2 innings, then Lohse for an inning or two. Then use the rest of his bull pen for the last two innings.

Holliday for the Cards is unfortunately out with a sprained wrist.

Texas seems to be not changing any plans, and seems confident.

I'm just happy to see a 7th game, and hope it's a great one. I do remember the 2002 Giants-Angels WS, and how the Giants just about had it sewn up, but even Rob Nen at his peak couldn't quite stop the Angels ability to somehow get on base and advance runners when they needed to.

Best WS in my lifetime though were 2001 when the Diamondbacks beat the Yankees in the bottom of the 9th of game 7, or 1975 with the Reds and Redsox. 1986 was the most emotional. Let's hope this game comes close to those years.

2001 was fun as i was born and bred to hate the Yankees (L.A.).

embarrassed to say i wasn't watching in 1975 -- my team wasn't in it so i was probably sulking.

1986 was stupendous! (as an aside, Hernandez was a Card when i first became a fan and saw him in play several games there... on a sad note, Lenny Dykstra's mother just passed away last month -- she was a close family friend.)

you're so sweet!

actually, i just looked it up online and, indeed, it will be live here too (and not BYU vs TCU as the TV guide says) -- yes!

had we planned beforehand, it would have been a hoot to have someone to watch this with -- maybe next year?

but please please comments please! it may be rough staying up... and, yes, i feel supremely guilty that i didn't try to find some Bud (yuck!)... i hope my silly greek olives and belgium beer will do.

ooh ooh ohh! i have fixings to make nachos! does that count? (trying to think of an approximation of ball park food ) but i have no idea where my Cardinals cap is... have to go change into something red.

(again, very grateful BF is out of town!)

I've got beer and popcorn. The only red things I have are Ajax, will that do?:p I'll be sure to pop in here from time to time, but my tv is in another room.

One of my music world friends lives in St. Louis, and then there was Judy Garland....those are my connections.;)

Ajax will do -- as long as it's red!

and you're allowed not to post... i may doze a bit on the couch (i'm thinking of bringing my alarm clock down and set it just in case )

i can think of nothing more wonderful than the reasons you chose to be a fan (hell, Judy Garland alone!)...

GO CARDINALS !!!!!!!!!!!
(please note: eleven letters, eleven exclamation points, destiny, i tell you)
