I suppose it would depend on the content of said thread.
A "[User Name] SUUUUCKZZZZ" thread would probably be frowned upon.

Yes that's a shame and I agree with you, good for you for sticking up for him. I recall Big Doopie from way back - 2011. I knew he could be provocative with the Contador fanboys. I am guessing he left them no choice.

I am not a fan of all this banning, especially of members who have contributed a lot in these years. Not that it's going to change how they operate, but it's probably slowly killing the community. But maybe it's what they want, idk.

Clearly not the case. I think what you mean is that you complained to a mod who didn't agree with you. Which is ironic as you complained about other people that they have an attitude of "you are wrong, until you change MY OPINION"

Expecting people to be able to give an explanation for their reasoning behind an ad hominem attack seems to be the essence of debate and discussion. What more basic justification can there be?
I certainly don't need a mod or anyone else to speak on my behalf and justify my right to defend my reasoning against somebody who ridicules in without explanation (and who has still failed to answer the questions that arise from disagreeing).
Nor would I expect anyone else to justify my actions: they are not culpable for what I do.

Errrm, you specifically asked me to post them. In doing so, you lose any right to claim secrecy over what you wrote, and I have no qualms about letting anyone know what I said.

Seriously what's will all the banning. Now @ManicJack but every thread I enter I see people banned, this isn't normal. Just went into cyclo cross thread and another ban, for @ChewbaccaDefense
It's just depressing, reminds me of IRC and why it mostly died. People were ban happy and it killed the community.

to be honest, I didn't notice bans of the ones mentioned above as they are on my ignore list. I do think it's a pity big doopie is banned, he came across as reasonable while still showing passion for his opinions, without crossing red lines too much.

At least there we no bannings in that case, just the locking of a thread that had sadly run its course.
Though, maybe if/when there are updates in the case, a mod could post links to the relevant articles, and then re-lock the thread...

Anything controversial beyond The Clinic is apparently inapropriate for CN. It's why the Politics thread was closed, even if it sparked interesting debate.
