I'll say this: as a British person who isn't particularly patriotic that 'Brits don't dope' thread is a constant source of ire for me, I am mostly offended everyt time I go in there, I think it gives a platform for people to spout misinformed, prejudicial opinions which may be thoroughly amusing to many of you but I find offensive. There's one thing to debate your country's sportsmen on a doping board, its quite another to hear your countrymen and by dint of that yourself refereed to in derogatory, mocking tones, and consistent use of offensive cultural stereotypes. I've tried to avoid and ignore that thread but today I got fed up and felt the need to voice my objections to it. I want to debate doping objectively, not listen to people spout negative things about me and my country constantly. If you want to do that go down the pub, I don't think it has a place on the board and its high time it is cracked down on.

Do you report the posts which offend you? I think it would be difficult for the mods to address the more general comments you're making here without those specific posts.

I did do. I was incensed by the use of the term 'wog' in that thread, a term used to indicate British attitudes towards foreigners, which is a highly offensive term in Britain, as bad as the N word. I reported it several times, and voiced by objections on the thread itself, and got nothing back. After that I gave up, indeed tried and failed to delete my account.

Ah come on guys, its just horseplay and not to be taken so seriously, surely.

Winding up Brits is a national pastime in certain parts of the southern hemisphere. ;)

Don't take it to heart, it won't be intended maliciously, just mischeviously.

very, very easy to say when you're not on the constant receiving end of it. The classic remark of the bully, isn't it? Just jokes between pals, right? You should have seen the clinic during the last Olympics, all done in good-natured humour of course.

Yea, poor Russian cross-country skiers got a mauling ;)

(I know you meant the Summer Olympics but I couldn't resist)

How can Blackcat be racist towards people of his own race?

That makes no sense.

...easy...find definition of racist below...

"noun

1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial group[/b]s determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others.

2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.

3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races."

Blackcat is the same race as the British.

According to the definitions you posted, racism is the belief OTHER races are superior or inferior.

Not your own race.

Like calling an African American racist for calling another African American, "n!gger".

...the core critical line was "the belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual achievement " and the qualifying operative term here was "usually"...

Yes but your core critical line includes the word "among" indicating a comparison between one racial group and another. If he is in the same racial group, there is no "among" in play.

Fair enough. Definitely the mods don't always see it the same as a poster might.

British is not a race. Nor is Australian. Caucasian is. He's not being racist if he as an Australian is dissing a Brit. He is being xenophobic.

Given the definition specifically says others vs others, your own reading comprehension is the one you should be checking.

The fact that you arrogantly continue to get this wrong whilst putting my understanding of racism down is fine, but for anyone else playing, that's the facts.

No, I don't feel like giving this behaviour a pass anymore by ignoring. It doesn't matter to you because it's not directed at you. When it is judge me then, and stop being pompous.

By your own definition he isn't, since. Britain is multi-ethnic FYI, unlike you think the entire of the British Isles is made up of Anglo-Saxons.

Jimmy, there is a simply solution if you are feeling bullied. Put the perpetrators on ignore. I did exactly this to a couple of creeps who latched on to me pretty quickly, one of whom sent me unsolicited abusive emails. Problem solved, I don't have to read their ***, nor be on the receiving end of their personality disorders (remember, its the internet: you don't have to be stable to post on it ;) )

There is another aspect to this, though, and that is that different sorts of behaviours deemed acceptable in one nation can be unacceptable in others, regardless of a shared language. Offence can be caused when none was intended. As you might see under my photo I hail from NZ, but live in the UK, via several other countries. I've been with the same Australian partner for quarter of a century, and whilst I picked up on the nuances of language pretty quickly it took him a little longer.

He caused offence to British people on numerous occasions, without realising that his behaviour was seen as crass. It took me many months to get him to understand that if he was having a friendly chat with somebody and they said something he didn't quite agree with, responding by saying "you're full of ***" wouldn't be interpreted as the friendly banter in which it was intended. His response was that the British are stuck-up. In reality, the problem wasn't the British, in whose country he lives, but his own ignorance of local manners.

It's the same all over the world. If you blow your nose in Japan you will offend. Seems strange, but true. This is an international forum and it needs to be born in mind that there is plenty of room for misunderstanding

I don't feel bullied. What I feel like is double standards are being applied. During the 2012 Giro d'Italia I referred to a group of Italian riders as a 'mob' and the clinic responded with outrage and I was warned by a moderator for 'cultural insensitivity'. However I feel like a completely different set of rules are in place for the British. I have seen some pretty monstrous things said about us and frankly I'm tired of seeing it. Yes I can put people on ignore, yes I can turn my back on the forum and walk away however I'm fed up seeing it and it being tolerated when my remark brought censure. There's a Brit on here, MartinGT, who hates Sky and think they are dirty as they come but I remember even he snapped and told people to pack it in.

And I know plenty of Aussies and Kiwis, have lived and worked in New Zealand so I know and appreciate Antipodean humour. What I wouldn't do is go onto an internet board and try to characterise them as a country full of thick convicts totally devoid of culture (as an example). Because its a stereotype, and because I'm not a tosser.
