i am really concerned that the previous complaints by chris e about unjustly being accused of being a sock puppet (a state he very publicly admitted to in the very thread on other occasions ) has suddennly got replaced by public sermons to one of the moderator he considers 'fiendly' (as opposed to those who banned him for numerous infractions including insults, flaming etc).

are we witnessing the most inept public display at playing the forum politics or is the complainer... not controlling his cognitive faculties at the time of posting due to some effects like intoxication?

Maybe it's the chemical fumes from washing his clothes? :) And by the way ChrisE I have a whole new perspective of you now i know you do your own washing! :)

I think the Mods are capable of navigating this kind of solicitation but thank you for your concern. ;)

appreciate your note, but i still feel the complainer has to provide evidence of being accused of what he claims.

should not be too difficult if the substance of what chis E alludes to is there...

thank you crank180.

edit: thinking this over, i thought along the lines that even if i personally felt i had a '100% case' i'd still not 'go public' b/c it puts the hard-working volunteer mods on the spot and makes me look like a whiner...unless i was absolutely sure i was wronged, which indeed happened, but i still took it to pms b/c i consider any public complaining the last resort. certainly, it;s just me. no reflection on the many good posters here.

I think you are witnessing the mods being fed up with the Handbag Ladies.

FYI, most posts in the clinic display a true lack of "controlling cognitive faculties" - what took you so long to bring this to the mods attention?

Ignoring this morning's posts for the moment and talking in general, one thing is very clear:

If you think that an individual post breaches the rules, use the report to moderator function and it will be addressed as soon as the moderators receive it.

If you think the more general behaviour of a member breaches rules (such as consistent harrassment for example) then either use the report to moderator function on one of the posts and describe the situation in the report, or just send a PM to one or more of the senior mods (those of us that are most available to look at it are easy to spot because we always seem to be online) with description and examples. And it will be dealt with as soon as the mods receive it.

However, if either of these things are happening and you come to this thread (or another public thread) and make a generalised comment with no specifics, you will - firstly, get the mods offside because we are being attacked and have no evidence to defend and secondly, make yourself look pretty silly in public.

Take a look at your posts. 90% are blanket insults directed at those that dare question your hero.... Swing that handbag girl!

As usual, wrong. Much greater than 90% of my posts are insulting, verging on the limits of forum guidelines, and generally do not add anything to a discussion.

The exact quote from the Handbag Ladies Guide To Internet Posting that I found was this - "If someone questions the facts (or lack of them) in your post, the best thing to do is not address the post but attack the poster. Always disregard the fact that they have not posted support for any "hero" - make that support up. This will convince the other Handbag Ladies that you are as good as anyone at fabricating things."

Well done.

By the way, this type of bickering will probably be frowned on in this thread by the mods, so expect our posts to vanish.

You actually posted a fact on one of your posts?

Link?

Unfortunately, the link to the Handbag Ladies Guide To Internet Posting is...... secret. Judge Jacqueline Nguyen has not unsealed that document. It will be unsealed soon, very soon - Showtime!

Once again - this thread is for discussion of moderation on this site, not for discussion of posting style or hosting of other discussions.

Boomcie, a decision has been made and is highly unlikely to be reversed regardless of how much time you waste on it. Its up to you what you do on this site but be warned again that having had a 24hr suspension, any further infraction will see you gone for a month

@Mr. Doc Maseratti, FYI:
http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/give+the+finger
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_finger

Look for the word offensive. If the mods are interested, do the same. Apparently I'm not alone.

It seems you are alone - to quote one of the links you provided -
In Western countries, extending the middle finger (either on its own or along with the index finger in the United Kingdom) is an offensive and obscene gesture, colloquially known as "flipping the bird",[1] "flipping someone off", or simply "giving the finger". The gesture is usually used as a form of insult to the person it is directed to.
Unless you are suggesting Johnny Cash actually was trying to offend you personally - then you have shown little.
Of course if Mr Cash was to have an account here you could direct that to the attention of the Mods.

It says usually. Not strictly. Plus it's an offensive and obscene gesture as a whole, not limited to the people it's directed to. Vulgarity is offensive to many people.

What's next?

Actually - thats exactly what the link provided says.

As for "what next" - well, a recap.
You got an infraction for insulting another member - which you admitted. So thats done.
You got a 24 hr ban for continuing to insult the same member - you admitted that one too, so thats done.
Now you are claiming offense to an avatar - even though you appear to suggest it does not offend you personally, but thats its offensive "as a whole" and that it became offensive "as a whole" moments before you were banned.

So, "what next" - well, you could stop digging.

Wrong. It says it's an offensive and obscene gesture. Then it says that it's usually meant as an insult to the person it's directed to. Nevertheless, it can be offensive to anyone that sees it, because it’s vulgar and obscene. That's an important nuance.

Agreed.

I can assure you this isn’t true. It might have been, but it isn’t. Susan banned me for an insult that was covered by the first infraction I had received. I have proof in the form of a pm.

Now you are claiming offense to an avatar - even though you appear to suggest it does not offend you personally, but thats its offensive "as a whole" and that it became offensive "as a whole" moments before you were banned.

I find it highly inappropriate and it is likely to be offending to other people. It is not in sync with the way this forum is run as well. I’ve seen more trivial things being removed/ censored around here. The timing you mention is irrelevant, or at least it should be.

So, "what next" - well, you could stop digging.

You've included a reference to the word offending, I’ve included one to the term middle finger. Hardly digging.

Next?

Boomcie and Dr Maserait this debate has reached the end of its usefullness. Further discussion of the semantics of 'the bird' will be considered Off topic.

The digging comment is form the old saying "When you are in hole, stop digging".

Again, it says it offends the person it is directed at - by the way in the Wiki piece you quote there is a reference to where that statement comes from.
It is from the book, '101 Ways To Flip The Bird' - I would show a photo of the front of the book but I believe that it may cause some people (I am not sure who) offence.

how much of your taking offense at d_t's avatar is just that you don't like him? in other words, if it were the avatar of someone you like would you be offended?

even if you would be offended in that case, what makes you think that you should be free from being offended? it is just an image. you can ignore it.

furthermore, the avatar is not directed at you and even if it were, YOU are choosing to be offended by it. HTFU.

that is all.

its pretty self-explanatory. If a group of users start mobbing one other user, for whatever reason, the mods are likely to step in. As we know, the normal way for us to do this is to post a warning in the thread but if this gets ignore then there will be one on one interventions from the mods.

To put this into some context. If people think a particular member is a new incarnation of BPC then they should report one of his posts and then.... sit back and shut up. Wading in with public acusations that someone is BPC is an example of something we don't want to see. Especially when 2 or more members are simultaneously doing it.

The word rape is being used by more than one poster in more than one post on this board to describe beating other riders in a race. I do not think this is an appropriate word to use in this way because it is a hideous crime. I would rather it not be used.

It is more effective to report individual postings, than to make a general complaint.

Susan

Effective in what way?
I was not wanting moderators to do anything just putting forward a point of view that can be considered and perhaps people can choose not to do it. If I wanted something specific done I would report a post as you suggest.
