I guess that Boomcie just insulted Susan to get banned. He tried to get banned by insulting the mods and the forum in his posts, but it didn't work. He says this forum makes him sick and that's why he wanted to get banned.

I for one will miss boomcie on this forum, though he seems to be back on the other forum so yay!

hiero2 you ask if we need such a thread on a cycling forum. May I note that the thread was in the cafe/general section of the forum, where the majority of the threads haven't got anything to do with cycling. This is not a reason to close a thread, otherwise the cafe section should be closed.

You could say that it wasn't a serious thread. But ask yourself, aren't there many threads on this forum that aren't serious?

Is the Free Form/Chaos thread serious?

Is the babes on bikes thread serious?

Is the, New and growing first world problem thread serious?

just a few examples from the first page of the cafe section

I just smelled smoke and saw flames coming from this direction...so wandered into the forum to see what was happening.

Very well said post here by LaFlo..among a lot of others that I can't take the time to read..

I am stunned at the removal of a silly/fun thread in the cafe section for a 'just because'...

In that case...I have been continually offended that cn sees fit to pander soft porn in ads and the BoB thread ...I think this should be looked at more closely and should be removed!!! Totally offensive

I am also wondering why JOE PAPP has gotten away with his fraudulent postings and identity hacking escapades when he should be hit with at least some sort of investigation and/or misdemeanor whatever offenses!?:mad:

This ban was justified. You can't insult others in the manner that this poster did via PM.
Dan

The ban was probably justified yet still none of you have said that the thread closure was justified, let alone actually attempted to justify it. Can any mod explain why a thread that was not even remotely obscene needed closing? We have been told it was inappropriate - in what way? We have been told that it was unrelated to cycling - it was in the cafe, so what's the problem?

CN is a heavily-modded forum, and comes with all the positives and negatives that that entails. People who go on CN do so in acceptance that it is a heavily-modded forum. This crossed the line in two ways - it was moderating above and beyond the rules (read the rules through and it doesn't break a single one) and it is also extremely inconsistent with other modding decisions.

As for a bathroom humor thread - ask yourself the same question. Why do we need it here? This is a cycling forum. What does bathroom humor have to do with that? For bathroom humor, maybe there is a South Park forum.

Please - be a little more realistic. Was Susan wrong? Not from where I'm standing. Should boomcie NOT have been banned? He/she broke more rules than a force 5 tornado. We have two things from one person - attacking, vile, cursing rants - and a humor (purported) thread that is not only way off base for the forum, but likely to lead into a thread that will require more mod time than the Clinic.

It was really just a explanation for what was inappropriate about the thread the Boomcie and others were asking, sure we didn't need that thread, but as Flo points out there are a lot of threads in the cafe we don't need (except for the BoB thread, that one is a necessity :D).

To the bolded: well even Susan said a couple posts up she could have handled the situation differently. I have no doubt the ban was deserved, but IMHO this whole discussion could have been resolved long ago and without any insults or banning's if any of the mods had just replied to the original question of why the thread was inappropriate.

Let it be. I no longer give a rat’s a$$. It’s not about some stupid thread anymore, I wouldn't even post in it if it was reopened now. I’m not a puppet.

I know there are some good up and coming moderators out there. I know they aren't too high and mighty to engage in a conversation and treat users with the respect they deserve.

Don’t put up with injustice, don’t be intimidated and don’t be muzzled by an oligarchic authority.

Do you want more moderation? Be careful what you wish for.

A bit of perspective os needed, the toilet thread was harmless it didn't need intervention unless it started to go down the drain.
However, yours and Boomcies 'injustice' rants are even more ridiculous than anything the mods did.

It was intended to be ridiculous.

Which is why your view will be dismissed - and rightly so.

There is a valid point about the other thread, but reactions like yours mean they can be ignored.

All this and Susan doesn't even have the decency to properly justify her decision.

A fair enough point of view. I thought it was unnecessary and that making fun of the decision was more likely to do something than just saying it was silly. Reasoned criticism of the way CN forums are run doesn't exactly have a history of changing that much.

EDIT: after some thought I have decided you're right about my posts and edited and deleted them.

I am saddened to learn that there is less love for BOB thread.

Don't worry Zam, the numbers speak for themselves don't listen to the hype, I know a couple women who actually view the BoB thread quite regularly.

Boomcie's thread shouldn't have been closed, it crossed no boundaries of guidelines
Boomcie was within his rights to ask why it had been closed
Boomcie should have been given a reasonable explanation as to why it was closed
Boomcie should not have resorted to name calling and abuse
Boomcie was right to be banned as a result

However, sensible behavior at either points 1 or 3 could have prevented it.

Tread carefully. Look too closely into that issue and you'll create a lot more work for your fellow volunteers while vastly reducing the beloved click-count cash cow.

This forum blows when four mods think we need/want their opinions on the Boomcie banning. Susan covered it just fine.

It is easy to get permanently banned. Get your first account banned. Sign up another account and make it clear that you own it. Then you get permanently banned.
I am not for one second suggesting anybody do it, it is against the rules and the rules should be followed, but it is not hard to get permanently banned.

If your going to go out, might as well do it in style. 2nd account method seems rather boring.

Yes, I guess so, but given it is easy to get ones self permanently banned it would seem sensible to grant permanent bans on request to stop people from breaking the rules to get themselves permanently banned.

It is also not hard to make your account so that you cannot log in again, I have done that myself before.

Simple, if you don't like the forum rules, then why do you post here?
Problem solved.

Thanks to all the mods for the thankless job, it is appreciated!
