If the mods in a forums do their job correctly then they read and participate in the forum's discussions so they see the ebb and flow, the trends, and posters like leon, who post troll after troll. Reporting single posts is not worth much because it does not give the complete story.

When they don't do their jobs correctly, they do not participate in the forum, they have no clue what is going on, and they simply react to reported posts. In other words, they engage in drive-by moderation. This is especially evident when a mod charges in, deletes posts and hands out warnings, but you cannot recall the last time he made a post to the particular forum. We see a lot of that here. It is even more ridiculous when other mods, who were reading and posting did see anything that was so extraordinary that it required that anything be done.

If a moderator does not participate in a forum then he should not be moderating it.

On top of that if you do report a post the mods complain that you report posts (yes that has happened).

It gets even better when a mod does their drive by moderation and there are other mods in the discussion :D they swoop down to fix, opps there's their co-mods posts in the wrongness of the posts they are removing but leave them since they are mods ;) Yea, that's how you do it. One mod allows it and another removes it, great comms there the supposed great comms group of mods , then FTW, the offended mod leave the bad post a mod has quoted.

Like you guys I have been here since the start and it may not be everything you would want it to be but the moderation is not that bad!

I am curious - why do you think the volunteer admin give up their time to do the job?

So they can feel a certain sense of superior power amongst equals?

So many people are motivated by status ... having significance with respect to others ... that in itself is not a bad thing. The questions of people taking advantage of others through the way they use their influence is a different thing.

I do not subscribe to the popular perception that "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely!". I am not sure that I see (or have seen) any mods on here who are motivated by taking advantage of others ... they exercise authority for sure ... but in good faith. BUT I would say that wouldn't I being a Mod myself :)

Most of the mods do the job because it's satisfying to help make the forum work. Challenges arise because it is not always easy to agree what 'the forum working' actually means. AND the forum would be a tangled mess without the moderation and curation that admin provide ... I think most people get that.

It's about half and half from my experience of forums (the other half being of course the insatiable appetite for power). I haven't made up my mind about this one yet :)

Getting a bit sick of the clinic references in the PRR section, mainly the stage threads.

Yes ... it's both understandable and tiresome. It's tough to keep on top of a live thread ... like one for a specific stage while racing is going on ... but I think we are not doing a bad job of removing and more importantly warning folk that maybe don't know the rules.

We'll keep trying.

Gone now for the rest of the tour... at least with this account.

There have been a few by people who do know the rules, I'm assuming they get more than a warning?

Is it fair to say referring to Sky as UKPostal or something similar is an obvious doping reference? Especially now they keep getting their **** handed to them every stage.

"permanent" bans don't have to be that way. If it is clear that one is willing to change their behaviour and address the reasons for the initial ban then on review, a permanent ban may only end up being a few months.

The problem is that in most cases the response is to spam accounts. Often the reason for permabanning in the first place is because of account creation to avoid a temporary suspension. A ban is never going to be overturned without a sustained period of abstinence.

There are plenty of doping refferences to sky in the pro section, no doubt, but UK Postal is not one of them. That term was flaunted proudly by Sky last year, and it refers to their identical style of racing and trying to do everything the way wiggo's hero did.

Coggan keeps going off topic in the Froome thread, and the only people who get banned are those who respond to him? That doesn't seem right.

Yes, this.

Also, why isn't foxxxxxy banned yet. His constant baiting and whining about "valv piti" and "clentadopucci" is super annoying. I guess calling Contador fans "hard-staring-AC-crybaby-schlecklets" (or something like that) isn't too nice either

UKPostal is hardly something to get upset about and was/is often used as a description of the way the team rides, also noticed someone/people using Froomestrong which may be more objectionable if you wish to complain about something.

Can we have a reason why Sniper was unbanned?

can we have a reason why you ask or even care?

and can i have a reason why the mods even need to respond to such a question? what happened to "non of your business"?
(edit: please note that i gave up my anonymity by writing to susan, so i feel a bit uncomfortable with the fact that you give such info so easily to a poster who really should have zero interest in knowing why i was unbanned.)

Now that I'm here, if I may ask, why did Benotti69 get banned? I did see TheHitch calling Benotti an idiot without any apparent reason, shortly before Benotti got banned. Was TheHitch banned?

puzzled

i'm puzzled...........why ask about others bans if your sensitive to others knowing about why your permanent ban was overturned?

personally i can understand interest in why a permanent ban proved less than
'permanent'

did we give away any info about your identity?
It looked to me a legit question tbh. We didn't overturn many permanent bans in the past after all.
edit: and I frankly don't see any reason why you should feel uncomfortable to let anyone know what I posted.
As for your question about Benotti, you'll have to wait for another mod, I wasn't here yesterday night and I didn't follow the events so there are other mods that may answer it better than me
