the infraction system is now primarily used to send a message direct from a mod, it includes the offending posts. The points don't really mean anything. I usually use "other" and apply zero points, however there are allocated points for a couple of automatic issues.... Doping talk outside clinic being one.

Damn.

Here I was proud of having finally made a point here.

Why is BroDeal banned? I assume Race Radio was furiously reporting his posts but who cares about that? What rules did he break?

Can you point to this 'double standard'?
And if that were the case, how is it that you are fixated on RR, not the mods?

Unlike you, I welcome all posters (even BPC) as they usually have something interesting to say. But when they start deliberately making stuff up it needs to be addressed, in particular if its personal.
Bro actually had plenty of opportunities to either accept they made a mistake or just let it quietly drop - but they continued, including bringing it in to other irrelevant discussions.

the double standard is that Hog and BroDeal get banned, while RR gets nothing for doing the same thing.

real

sceptic please get real...............let bro fight their own battles when they are back

did you see RR ignore a direct instruction from a mod like bro?

was RR continually lieing / making stuff up?

saying how putrid the forum was just because they did not get their own way?

or stalking a member they disagreed with?

thanks!

Two lessons: (1) When the mods say quit the insults, do it; (2) Don't escalate in response to snide insults. "You can pretend otherwise," but some posters just cannot disagree without a snide insult.

I have moved the discussion about BroDeal and Race Radio to the sidebar thread.

This thread is to voice your friendly and humorous ;) opinions about moderation decisions, not vent about each other.

cheers

I think this answers the question. Save the debate about the merits of Bro and RR, you have already expressed your opinion at some length without having any idea what communiques were sent to the various parties.

I moved the serfla and airstream convo to the appreciation/depreciation thread.

This thread is for complimenting ;) the mods for their stirling efforts, not discussing the merits of banned former members

cheers

No compliments from me, Bison, and whoever else is left from the mod staff.

"Brodeal has been banned for two weeks due to incessant trolling and baiting, and repeatedly ignoring warnings to desist"

A classic example of the hypocrisy, duplicity, and double standards employed by the current moderating squad. BD has got 'previous' as long as your arm. He gets two weeks for the 'offenses' mentioned above, after "warnings".

I got banninated for a month, out of the blue, for a first offense, and with no warning or communication of any kind from anyone.

And you guys wonder why long term posters think you've become duplicitous laughing stocks?

Did BroDeal say he wanted another poster dead?

So, has your name come to mean, 'hypocrisy' too? Were you still a mod then? Was it you?

Are you really telling me that a one-off explosion in a specific, rather emotional situation - I believe my words were "**** off and die" - is a more heinous offense than nearly five years of persistent, deliberate, trolling and constant provocation?

Saying what I said, which I should not have done, doesn't mean I "wanted" anyone dead, as you or whoever decided to ban me for a month knows perfectly well. I'm not saying that I didn't deserve some chastisement, but that the punishment was wholly disproportionate to the first offense. Try and respond like an adult, please, and less like a hypocrite.

The point is quite simply that BD is one of a long list of posters who, given their track record over many years, should have been perma-banned long ago on any fairly moderated forum. Instead, he gets two weeks for his nth offense. Again, you people are then surprised when you are held in contempt?

I don't see where you point to any hypocrisy. What is hypocritical in asking whether or not BroDeal committed the same offence as you?

A completely false equivalence - a one off, momentary, emotional outburst for a very specific reason, compared to nearly five years of incessant trolling and provocation. Did any of you happen to notice how much more laid back and hassle free the US politics forum became after BD stopped posting in it?

The hypocrisy is the different standards that are applied to different posters, as if you couldn't figure that out yourself.

You didn't answer my questions either - was it you?

Could I not at least have been afforded the courtesy of a PM or warning, instead of a month ban out of the blue a week after the 'offense'?

I wouldn't call it hypocricy.
The correct term is dumbf*ckthingsmodsdo.

A month was completely over the top.
But, in the same way Amsterhammer had an "outburst" so too do the mods.
That would normally be fine, in fact it would be welcome and expected, we all do things that we may later regret.

There is an attitude of "do as the mod says", which in theory is ok, but not when a mod acts inappropriately or misinterprets or abuses the rules. A more clear system needs to be applied.

Wait, hold up. Getting banned is punishment?

Good post.

An even better example I think is that Graham chap the other day*. Apparently (and I'm taking this from the horse's mouth, SB) the original decision to perma-ban was because he was politely discussing Sky in a thread about, erm, Sky, which, although 'not against the rules' was likely to 'derail' the thread.

Meanwhile a guy who's MO is aggressive trolling, and recently has been stalking another member, and boasting about his deliberate trolling of an entire thread as an experiment to show how much the forum sucks, gets a two week ban.

You really couldn't make it up.

(* Yes I know it turns out Graham was a sock-puppet, and maybe he was, and maybe that deserved a perma-ban anyway, but it doesn't make the original decision to ban him for having a polite on-topic discussion in the relevant thread any less ludicrous.)
