True. But what is the alternative?

A free for all on the mods?

They could change the ban policy, that wouldnt be hard.

Reduce ban lengths to days instead of months would be a good start.

It was a group decision and one of the mods -- not Berzin -- volunteered to do the deed.

All the more reason to express little hope of redemption for this place then.

Geez, that sounds like you were putting him down.

You either accept this is a moderated forum or you don't. The Doc didn't and has been put out of his misery.

That's probably not the best way to start your term.

Another case of open and harsh abuse of the mod status.
They're showing they can ban just because they're in power.
And they all (mods) agree about it.

True but CN own the infrastructure, the software, pay the up keep, deal with the legal side etc.

They have to keep some form of decorum.

I say if Mas can apologise then bring him back next week. He has my support.

But no one has the right to openly sh1tbag a mod. No one.

If Mas can prove his case then he (we) certainly do.

They could. But some could just step away from the keyboard instead of giving the mods an ultimatum. You don't hold the mods to ransom. Or CN.

It's only the Internet. Not real life. I don't get the wanting to be "right" thing and trying to work out posters identities and drop hints etc. that you know. It's actually good to be wrong sometimes.

And why not enter into discussions, learn a little, be wrong as well as being right and talking about stuff you like. Which is cycling.

Like I said the Dawg will go *** before we know it and this will be forgotten.

So to recap, not just one out of control mod making a bad decision, but the entire mod brain trust getting together to make a bad decision.

Maybe it wasn't the one post? Maybe Mas has been up to no good in other areas?

I don't know. None of us do. But sometimes the mods have to act in confidence. It's just the way it is.

This explains some things.

Can a moderator clarify whether you will receive a ban if you post a member’s personal twitter account (which contains their real life info) without their consent?

The rules say you’re eligible for an instant and possibly permanent ban if you post any member’s real life information without permission.

Cool it with Martins Twitter Digger. Revealing real life information about a poster is against the rules. Your Twitter account is kinda linked with your account here and you seem fine with people knowing about it, but Martin obviously isn't okay with you revealing his twitter account or other info about himself from outside the forum.

Why did the mods decide this incident was not ban worthy?

Every great philosopher, scientist & mathematician found that by being wrong lead to great discoveries.

Mas in essence behaved like Armstrong. Thought when the testers came knocking that he didn't need to give a sample or when his hematocrit was too high he could still race.

And when finally warned he refused to go to arbitration and told the mods he didn't need their stupid hearing and they can to to hell. Life ban me. I'm better and bigger than this.

Which in the end they just ban you.

I jest with all of this but you see the point. You can't hold the sport to ransom.

susan, i for one appreciate your attempt at providing some feedback, given the fact you are no longer, as most have probably know by now, an active mod...this is not to defend berzin or crap on the doc - simply that most posting folks will stick to their pro- or anti- guns regardless of the mod decision. thus, as i always, said, keep those banning decisions away form the public announcements as they have little value, except making public group alignments and group gloaters when their rival/offender does the same to the mods at large...or does not and thus avoids their human reactions.

Id rather think of it like this.

Dr Mas was acting like a spoiled child and was saying to his parents "I never want to speak to you again"

Berzin as his parent then said "fine, go away, youre no longer welcome in this house"

I believe a better response would have been "go to your room to cool down for an hour, then we can talk about this"

Fair enough, but the great ones don't seem to set out with it as a goal.

Being right is only one point of view. Also means you may have blinkers and not accepting of other possibilities.

A creationists right is a scientists wrong. And vice versa.

So who's "right"? You'd be "wrong" to choose.

Do any of the mods have siblings, children, friends, or neighbours? Have any of you ever interacted with another person? When someone makes an unreasonable demand, as did the doc, you either ignore them or show them where the goalposts are and invite them to stay within. The doc's post was over the top, but it was so obviously unreasonable (without being offensive or contrary to any forum rule) that doing nothing would have been more effective than taking action. The years pass, the mods change, and the same overreaction to problems with simple solutions occur. The popcorn gifs are ample evidence that the forum knew the mods would be tripping over themselves at the chance to wield power. The doc told a mod not to moderate his posts. His planned action should the mod continue to do his job the way he chose? Taking the issue to Benson. Wow. Not exactly Guy Fawkes, was he? But you burned him all the same. And blew the form up once again, losing a valued contributor and upsetting a good portion of the membership.

I'll leave you with Mew's comment. She has never spent a day as a mod, but seems immeasurably more qualified than any of the raging nannies we have here.
