Moderators: how many (% wise) bad post reports / bans come from Armstrong threads?

Just curious, as Armstrong is a very polarizing figure.

It is deflection. One of their small gang gets banned and the response is to spend days screaming conspiracy theories, equating their targets with Pedophiles, anything to deflect from the obvious.

It is unfortunate how far downhill this place has gone thanks to a small handful of posters. Last month ProCycling Magazine had an interesting article on VAM, W/Kg, etc. They talked to some of the experts in the field. Marco Pinotti, Ross Tucker, Vetoo........all former posters here. All were driven from the board by the chaos.

If a poster includes context, facts, or gives a broader view they make themselves a target. Their posts will be twisted. They will be harassed, baited, and insulted, by a small group of dedicated trolls

The facts and context involved in posting a picture of lance with his top off.

But anyway, it's good that you are finding the times, outside of posting pics of lance topless, to address the Vuelta today.

This post explains perfectly what happened. The hog knew what s/he was doing, and knew what would happen. What is underhand about having a discussion via PM? You know, the PRIVATE message feature that Americans for some inexplicable reason fail to comprehend?

I saw these posts in the suspension thread and was surprised to see that a Mod had such a dismissive view of Americans.

nothing discriminatory or harassing about it, just plain fact. Americans do not recognize the PRIVATE aspect of private messages. There have been instances where American members have divulged supposedly private discussions much to the chagrin of European members. From the American POV they have done nothing wrong as "once a message is sent its no longer private".

Using anecdotal evidence to stereotype a diverse country of over 300m people? Personally, I would say that stance is more in the realm of 'opinion' rather than 'fact'.

i'd say it's in the realm of 'pretty darn harmless'.
something i'd laugh about if i were american.

I'm not a huge fan of banning people. Hard to know the behind the scenes activity.

What is beyond argument is Hog was trolling in an extremely obvious and poorly constructed manner.

My guess is if the trolling was even decent he'd still be here.

Why, when under pressure, do you resort to discriminatory and harrassing statements against a nationhood; it is highly undeserved. Indeed, it must be against the rules of this forum. I'm sure that an apology is in order.

On behalf of Americans everywhere with a brain and not-so-thin skin, I declare the statements by sittingbison to be...

NO BIG FRIGGIN' DEAL.

Get over it.

i know thehog only from non-lance threads.
in those non-lance threads i've honestly never seen him troll.
unless you define trolling as 'providing very well-informed, highly entertaining posts'.
i'm not kidding. most of his posts are good. some are legendary.
his writing style and humor are unique.
he interacts friendly with everybody, even those who disagree with him.
hardly ever takes recourse to insults.
for me thehog is an absolute phenomenon.
big shame if he keeps getting banned,
i can't judge his behavior in the lance-threads because i hardly ever go there, but to judge him only on the basis of his contributions in those one or two threads would be very unfair, both for thehog as for those who enjoy reading his posts.

It's not like the hog to rally so openly in his own defense. One of his endearing trademarks has been to return within seconds of his ban expiring, and to immediately carry on without missing a beat—occasionally making light-hearted , self-deprecating references to the ban itself.

Taking it to Twitter though?

Meh.

the insults thing is interesting - he's constantly being insulted by two or three - rarely insults backs, if ever, as he knows he'll be the one banned...yet others seem to have carte blanche to bait him, reply to his posts, and insult him...

I agree with much of what you're saying, but I can assure you, he was trolling heavily lately in the Lance thread. Want proof?

While searching from something entirely unrelated, I came across a series of posts from thehog's past that paint a very different perspective and agenda, on exactly the same topic, as what he was stirring up recently. I'd say it was pretty damn obvious that in each case, he was deliberately playing the contrarian just to get a rise out of others. When put side-by-side, the two perspectives are actually quite amusing.

But I respect the fact that thehog isn't here to defend himself, so I will refrain from pulling up those posts. When he returns, he has every right to challenge me on this, although honestly, it's not something I wish to dwell on.

I have had many, many colorful, entertaining, respectful and informative exchanges with thehog over the years, but I do wish he would step back a bit from the obvious points of conflict with others.

He has both supporters and detractors here, but much like Dr. Maserati, his future involvement with this forum is clearly in his own hands. Let the countdown to his return begin. :)

I look forward to hearing more of what non-Americans think Americans should consider funny. It reminds me of the current debate over the Washington Redskins nickname and what Non-Native Americans think Native Americans should find offensive. I feel the Mods should be held to the highest possible standard in their posts and I feel that those two fell drastically short of the mark.

Evidently, you posted that here for the Mods as an example of a baiting posting. Anyway, I expressed my opinion here and you are entitled to your own.

Fair enough. Allow me to rephrase:

I think you're overreacting.

Not to mention, by all accounts, sittingbison is American too (at least located here). So that, to me, makes it even less of an issue as well—although personally, I couldn't care less about the source of such a remark. It just doesn't bother me.

[Edit]
I will also add that the admittedly deragatory tone of my previous post was more directed a Alpe73's use of the term "nationhood." I mean, really?

Deep stuff.

I believe BroDeal wanted to provoke a mod-reaction to his posts.

I still haven't heard a reason why the mods would make secret deals with RR.

You shouldn't. They were false accusations (and quite laughable ones as well). It just an internet forum, there aren't any conspiracy secret behind the scene deals going on.

IMO, if someone thinks there are, they're taking the forum far too seriously.

Same for this American. Don't see the big deal with or feel insulted by the post.

To be honest, the biggest crime here isn't the alledged lying.

Its the pathetic little childish tantrums from you and others that is frankly embarrassing, not to mention boring in the extreme. Most of this clinic bull**** is just one big game of who can p155 off who. All the protagonists know it, so when caught just do the rest of us a favour and stfu about it. Or start your own forum.

mods take themselves way too seriously around here.

And here is a perfect example of what I see as the problem.

On my forum, somebody like the hog would be welcome. He is a prankster but he is bloody excellent at it, from what I've seen. He's inoffensive, and always puts together a cogent argument, with a few half truths thrown in but so what. He doesn't start angry ranting when cornered but backs away quietly. He makes stuff up but its funny as f##k.

The problem is a little pack of ugly groupies, like you, that hang on to his coat tails injecting venom but without having any of his intellect and class. I wasted 15 minutes of my life flicking through your post history. It consists almost entirely of nasty little slurs like the one I've quoted.

Its people like you that put forums like this in the gutter, and ruin it for the rest of us. On my forum, you'd be long gone.
