In the context of CyclingNews, this site does not intend to host a 'lawless' pub within itself where the rules contradict the governing rules of the site. That outlet needs to be outside of this forum. Virtually everyone here regularly visits other social sites with looser rules. There are more than enough places to engage in that type of behaviour if you wish without needing it here too.

I have a feeling there are some here who don't get out as much as they should.

Damiano was Bro deal? They seemed very very different to me.

Very different.

Also the WL is being swept under the rug?

I think Damiano was his "nice" account :D

For those wondering, Machiavelli was an ancient philosopher who suggested in the art of war, of faking your own death to fool your enimies and returning under another name.

My hunch would be, that Bro wanted a fresh start with a new name, stopped using his usual account and came on the forum "reborn".

Obviously what he should have done is let the mods know in advance.

Just as an experiment, at least initially, how about setting up an unmoderated 'free for all' sub-forum where people can swear, bait, and in general do anything they want (except post porn or outright libel, for example)? You can always shut it down if it threatens to get out of hand.

In my own experience of many other forums, ranging from the strictly moderated, to the loosely moderated and to the un-moderated, most people are capable of a reasonable degree of self moderation if they know that that is the price of posting 'freedom'. Also, unfettered speech is often very funny.

honestly, i think its a silly idea, and would cause complete chaos in here. Users would take advantage of it to be as obnoxious and offensive as they possibly could be. Remember that whats on the forum shows up on google results. Do CN really want their name appearing on google searches on bestiality?

Machaivelli was a Renaissance philospher. Far from ancient;)

The reason for the name was simpler than this.

I think Daniel wishes to "ensure" that the forum remains a place for everyone to remain pleasant together. Unless Daniel is willing to take out an insurance policy so he can claim against moderators for not doing their jobs properly. And given how much trouble the moderators have regulating the clientele, I'd say that a fair few insurance companies would No Quote that.

Just what place are we visiting, again? :D

I could have used Damiano de Saint-Exupéry, but that was cumbersome and did not sound as good. Also Machavelli has connotations that are appropriate, so TSF is not totally off base even if he has only the vaguest idea about who Niccolo Machiavelli is.

i enjoyed DMs contributions. :D

It was better this way. You still get the connection between Machiavelli's work and Cunego, plus it sounded cooler. And when we learned it was you, it all made sense, but very few got it initially. So appropriate.

And it got me to pull my Machiavelli off the book shelf for the first time in several years.

So, to clarify the rule the original account is not banned if somebody registers a sockpuppet and is caught? It must be, because Brodeal is still here.

I see the rules have changed once again.

BroDeal had abandonned the original account and switched to the new one. there is no posting cross over at all and effectively the brodeal account ceased to exist on this site prior to Damiano Machiavelli joining.

The intention was to stop using an account, not to circumvent a ban or to troll, etc. As such, similar to Dimspace, being allowed to keep his new account, BroDeal has been allowed to keep his old one.

Do you have a case in the past of this happening? Certainly hasn't happened since I have been a mod. One person cannot hold two accounts so one of them has to be banned. I think a suspension would only be called for if the person is actively using both accounts at the same time and if there are interactions between them.

I think what gets many members is when rules are applied randomly and not to all. Then there's the whole interpretation of something, some take it personally and others take it as entertainment as that is what this forum is.

I think the personal bashings usually revolve around members who can't take a disagreement and blow it all out of proportion and like the saying goes:

"solo los que lloran maman"

Most translators won't do it justice so don't go thinking its as bad as the translator says.

He was still signing into the brodeal account after he created DM. Yes, he never posted but don't try to claim the account was inactive.
