More Rasmussen fall-out... Doping among Danish Olympic team 2004

There's a story running in Danish media that Michael Rasmussen told the AD authorities that one of the 5 riders on the Olympic team in 2004 smuggled a cortisone product (syringe) to the games via a portable cd-player and the contents were shared between three of the riders. On the team that year were Rasmussen (obviously), Lars Michaelsen, Bo Hamburger, Nicki Sorensen and Frank Hoi.

The story has not been corroborated by Rasmussen (at least not openly), but has been verified by "people intimate with the matter". Whether this means riders from then or people present at Rasmussen's AD hearing I'm not sure.

Moderators: Please feel free to merge into one of the existing Rasmussen threads if you feel it's better - just thought this was a different content than Rabo/Menchov.

That two out of five wasn't taking part in that particular doping is the shocker. But one vial goes only so far.

Nicki Sørensen was rumored to have been named by Rasmussen already the day the story of his confession broke (courtesy of Rolf Sørensen, it felt a bit like he was deflecting the attention away from himself). The others are retired and probably not as interesting to the Danish press as someone riding for Saxo now. Bo Hamburger was hired as sport director for Christina Watches just a few days ago.

Not track, road...

The highest placed of the Danes was Frank Hoi - 8th and the only one never to have been linked to doping (except for riding in the 90s).

Lars Michealsen and Nicki Sorensen have both been linked to George Mouton (Belgian dope doctor in the 90s) and once asked if he had doped Lars Michaelsen answered "I've never had any problems in that direction". Go figure...

Hamburger admitted to doping 95-97, but was funnily enough one of the first riders to fall foul of the EPO test when he got popped in 2001. Due to a procedural error he was never sanctioned. He was thrown off the national team but started legal action and had to be included on the team at a later point. Go figure...

Apparently by now all of the riders have responded to the media. None of them doped and each of them are willing to talk to the AD authorities, but none of them have been contacted by the authorities as of yet.

Also they're all refusing to comment further in the media as it's for the moment only a rumour about an allegation - and as MR himself is not talking about it to the media it's all really difficult to relate to.

If there is an allegation the question is if it's true or not, but currently we don't even know if there even is an allegation in the first place!

Earlier I stated (in another thread), that should the anti doping boys fail to act on Rasmussens' information, he (chicken) should immediately write a book and make some more money.

He is already making the preparations for that - it'll come out in the fall...
