Porte's MTT performance up Eze in '13 was pretty ridiculous.

Haha, yeah, Sean Kelly spent most of it saying that obviously the time check was wrong because Porte couldn't actually be beating the climb record by a minute.

Then Porte got to the line, they realized the time was real and even Kelly was trying not to sound sarcastic about Sky.

It's between some of the sky performances and horners vuelta ones. Individually it's Horner on angliru, beating contador 08 time.

But can't ignore the team aspect of some of those 2012 stages where sky would have like 5 riders in a group of 8 and of course Porte laughing at Quintana on ax 3 and then an even more gory version of the same movie with g Thomas joining the fun on PSM
That first mountain top finish of the 2012 Tour de France was the beginning of the end of the great racing from 2007-2011, they had what 3-4 of the last 8 like you said. I know it wasn't the strongest field ever but they got to the last six with three. Luckily that day was the last full strength performance of Cadel Evans because nibs got dropped and no one believed taarame was going to hold on for three weeks. But for that one day I thought thank god one rider stopped the sky 1-2. Imagine froome and wiggins 1-2 on that stage. Would have made the tour so much worse then it was

Contador in tirreno 14? The stage where he attacks from 30km out ( unheard of in gts now) Quintana goes with but gets dropped on a fairly low gradient and Contador bridges to the break and demolishes everyone but gescke on those 30% gradients.

Group behind him wasn't cooperating, only one teammate of pozzo was pulling behind them, whilst Contador's breakaway buddies weren't exactly the stellar type on 20+% gradients. I don't think its more suspicious than anything else from him that year

Yeah I was going to write it wasn't the most vigorous chase + top climbing break but still these type of attacks rarely happen and it takes a Contador type of rider to exploit it

Agreed. Thomas & Porte were absurd at this years Tour, Thomas especially. The doms messing with the GT riders just to kick sand in their face was very ugly. That's how dope makes average people into pinheads. Both of them became mini-me-Lance's for the day.

Races:
1) Froome Vuelta '11, textbook donkey to racehorse scenario in a "clean era"
2) Horner Vuelta '13, still can't stop laughing when thinking about it
3) Froome Tour '13, former donkey beating or at least matching specialists both in climbing and TT-ing
(Dis)Honourable mention to Team Sky in stage races there leader targeted in 2012

As a single stage, Team Sky on Stage 10 Tour 2015 takes the cake. Classic case of a rest day gone well.

was it Mick Rogers on Joux Plane, Dauphiné 2012?

It was Porte wasn't it?

yes, maybe Rogers on the Colombiere, and then Porte on Joux Plane. they both smashed it

This is what we are looking for per the Tour.. that's some TTT!

Thomas Dekker.

prolly the most talented in the peloton, shows how well you can ride clean.

He was always a level above Nibali.

He would have pantsed Wiggo and Froome.

Clearly not as talented as a clean Ryder Hesjedal in 2012 form or 2015 Giro form.

What year was that Thomas Voeckler hung onto the yellow jersey until late in the tour and climbed really well against really all odds?? It was 2011. Thor's big year. Oh right, the year Contador was excluded.

Winners are Thomas, Froome.

Thomas has been trying the one-day classics for quite a while. Suddenly at the Swiss tour he's climbing truly epic cols with the lead group. Makes perfect sense....
You missed the evolution didnt you
He showed at Algarve that he was a decent climber
Was second best at Paris Nice, but that wasnt suspicious because he had shown in Algarve that he could climb
Almost won Tour de Suisse, then again, if you watched Paris-Nice you already knew he was a good climber
Then he beasted in the Tour, yeah, but is that really suspicious from someone who nearly won the Tour de Suisse??

Contador wasn't excluded in 2011, his results were taken away but he certainly raced and *cough* won races.
Voeckler was Nuclear in that 2011 Tour, he really only had 1 bad stage up the Alpe but outside of that he would of podium'd and he even out TT'd the Schlecks and only finished 2 minutes from Martin and Evans in the stage 20 TT. He's never looked as bulky as he was that year

Dekker -> fat
Nibali -> skinny

he needs to get the lipotropin.

how about LRP in 2013. He was looking at a podium in the TdF that day in the second or third week, prolly the third, that day where the peloton chose to smash Sky and were pissed off at them and ganged up against Sky, and Brailsford had to use LRP in the first part of the stage, and he blew himself up like a bomber in jerusalem, then when he was chasing back on, Brailsford told him to sit up and save his ammunition for the next week for Froome.

that 2013 Tour, was where LRP should have been on the podium with Froome. Apart from that race, LRP is a bit of a fraud over the three weeks. He is a good worker tho. Brailsford could have kept him for that. He wont win jack at BMC will LRP.

Nibali does not deserve to be on this list. ofcourse he dopes. But like Cancellara and Sagan and Boonen, these guys are racers when the peloton is materially deficient of racers who animate the race.

its called racing.

Nabali races. Gerrans otoh, he follows wheels and does not race. Can you see the difference manifest?
