Think of riding horses, laid back cowboy vs racing jockey with knees and legs bent at uncomfortable angles with arms and torso extended out for aggressive aerodynamic position with weight and pressure being put on hands, arms, shoulders.. That's crotch rocket position you are contorted like you are racing GP1 but you are usually going for coffee, get a haircut or riding your race ready machine to get a few forgotten items at the grocery store.. But it's good to have the ability to go 300 kilometers per hour just in case..
Holy crap, 300km/hr? I'm pooping my pants as we speak!

What's the fastest you, and you, jmd, also, have ever ridden? (You can tell me once you're back from your ban, Unchained.)

125 mph on an open road (in my early 20s).
This thread is keeping me so regular, I just pooped my pants again!

Did you see your life flashing before your eyes or was this a young and invincible kind of thing to do? (I wouldn't even feel safe in a car at that speed!)

To be completely honest, I can't feel that raw emotion anymore since it was 30ish years ago!

There was certainly the invincibility of being young, but as I discussed ^, I started riding motorcycles when I was five. In my dirtbike life I jumped on, over, down so many things that going fast on street bike with both tires on the ground really wasn't 'scary'. It was a H of a rush though! I've been over 100 mph many times in cars, but feeling and hearing everything at that speed on a moto is so much more intense.

@2 minutes he drops by the beach. Near San Quintin, there are a bunch of big,big tomato farms and Driscoll's berries farms... and at the waters edge.. A bunch of rock farms. The ocean washes a bunch of large ,smooth round rocks that are collected and sold in US and Canada for building materials. They have these big screens made from metal mesh, some from 3,4 sheets of plywood sandwiched with a few cut out holes..you take a stone and put it up to the hole and if it's too big, go to appropriate hole, drop it through. It sorts the stones by size and then they go in a 4x4 pickup and are brought up @75-100 feet elevation. Big trucks will sink into the sand and can't make it up the grade, from the beach up the bluff. So they use Toyota 4x4s to shuttle the rocks up to 18 wheelers..why is it important? Because these little off and on ramps to the beach make it so you can ride your motorcycle on the beach wide open for a couple of miles and you don't have to go off a massive drop off. You see that in the movie guys go off massive cliffs and land on the beach.
I have ridden on a few long beaches but in US like Florida, New York ,Massachusetts you have to go slow because people, vehicles are all over. And also if there is any erosion and the water is @2 inches or more you are going down.. Baja is just better.. Right now mama whales are ripping around with babies down in Bahia dLos Angeles.. Can't ride there or even go fast in a boat!!

This place is motorcycle magic! You can go with nothing.. Village has gas station, couple of bars, restaurants, grocery stores, a bakery.. You can ride your bike to waters edge, set up camp, tent optional, make your own food or go to town drink, eat ,get fortified and go back to your beach campground with enough ice, beer, whatever for the night.. Too hot? Walk into the ocean.. And just sit or swim to regulate your temp..

Sometimes when I see old stuff.. I just sit back and imagine those times.. Bike racing had a 19 rear with 42,43 in front standard and they were doing same mountains. In motorcycles they were basically removing the turn signals! No travel.. And the suspension had little to no dampening.. I think about my man Steve!!

Things don't always work out
Besides an actor McQueen was an avid moto rider irl, wasn't he?

Was Brando any good on a bike, or was this just some Hollywood magic?

And before this travelling from US or Northern Baja is ..
Place is sort of dumpy, just a dusty place on the Sea of Cortez.. It's pretty minimalist.. But some stuff including beer, liquor, gas, food, cheap beach camping..
It has natural hot springs that occur right at the oceans edge. So you get whatever you are drinking and a good flashlight.. Walk down a sketchy trail and lay in the beautiful warm water regardless of the time of year.. And you are far enough from civilization that you see billions of stars..

Funny about internet propaganda.. What most videos leave out about Sea of Cortez, especially for moto campers in cheesy tents..the wind can go from nothing to @40+ in an instant and your tent and all your stuff will blow away, often gone for good.. Guy that brought me had me putting items in stuff sacks, using rocks and tent stakes to paranoia level and walk arounds to ensure nothing was loose like gloves, socks, sunglasses, jacket.. When it comes it's intense.. And bonfire tent placement is critical because if you are away from the water ..maybe some embers on your Gucci REI tent or Goretex statement wardrobe! I love the place but there are local conditions you need to know. And in Mexico, especially small places.. Posted store hours mean nothing, buy it, because they will be closed when you return..
