There is some company is France, maybe @10 years ago that went out of business that made really really beautiful motorcycles. Germans and Dutch for some reason can take Harley platform to really high levels, fantastic customs that are literally artwork

I get scared when children and teens describe things as difficult, dangerous or just are completely disinterested.
I have a backcountry permit for Sequoia- Kings for July and asked a 15 year old if he was down, probably @50-55lbs start pack and it's gets lighter as you eat. Carried water..he said sounds too hard.
They don't see motorcycles as fun, exciting or sexy depending on age. My parents went to a funeral for @10 days in Iowa of all places when I was 16..my dingy aunt was babysitting my brother and myself I was 16. Rode from Scottsdale to Puerto Penasco( Rocky Point) to impress a couple of girls I was crushing on.. That was the start of my moto travel obsession.

I think saying we are going to ban screen time and video games sounds pretty stupid. It's parents! Somewhere between lawn darts and pajama parties we have to meet.
The selfish reason that I want young people riding and buying bicycles and motos is because the more bikes that shops sell, the better deals I get. If its just me and a handful of other old dudes, the prices are higher and there are no deals.

Several of the moto shops in the valley have 2024 models 30% off. Dirt bikes still sell well here, but there are plenty of leftover 2024/25 road models. UTVs sales help prop up the shops too.

The local Royal Enfield dealer had quite a few Int. 650s left, but then in one weekend they were all gone. I don't know if they had a doorbuster sale, were allowed to sell on the www, or 'moved' them to another dealer. On the RE front, they have done a great job on everything except weight. IMO, they can't be 50 pounds heavier than the competition (in the name of 'value').

The promoter who used to run the regional mountain bike series also promoted The Big Nasty Hill Climb. I assumed that 'nasty' was a description of the hill, it turns out that once the sun goes down, hill climb people are nasty (in so many ways). I've lived through some pretty crazy stuff, but I only lasted about two hours with that crowd.

While I can appreciate many aspects of custom building, especially the aesthetics, , I put 90% on function so that rules me out of ever buying one...the price tags also keep me away.

Easy to find hidden camping spots on motorcycle or bike packing trips here. Depending on your constitution and construction you might find it too hot even in early spring but there are varying conditions in the surrounding area, including Anza Borrego state park from wild flower blooms and a condition that is commonly called super bloom. Camping is not always easy in the park.

Bicycle and motorcycle use for camping have restrictions also but the additional mobility open things up that can't be accessed by regular vehicles..

If you go a slightly different route, you can take Banner Grade..it's awesome on a motorcycle or bicycle. Fall and winter, early spring are excellent for riding and camping. California- Arizona border is surprisingly pleasant.. You are tricked a little about water. You can get water around the the Interstate 8 freeway.
During periods of modernization the old freeway that curved through the mountains leading up and down from the desert into San Diego has large stretches that are still intact and can be easily reached by 4x4 or off road motorcycle. It's a crazy thing. I was originally introduced to the unknown by some guys I rode with who are members of the San Diego Herpetological Society. A group of people who enjoy the study of reptiles and other critters.
The leftover pavement and zero traffic have animals go onto thick freeway slabs to warm up. You can see all kinds of crazy stuff. For motorcycles and mountain bikes you can camp and sleep under incredible stars..Lots of this stuff is close to Boulevard California, a frequent location for district bicycle road race championships for years. Large granite boulders the size of cars, trucks, motor home, school bus..large rocks, it's very cool to hike and ride among the giants..

I really wonder if this is not a perfect motorcycle. Japanese engineering and build quality. Proven motor. Factory integration from brakes to electronics and for me, it has handlebars instead of clip ons so you have lots more flexibility in positioning. Engine has 150+ horsepower.. Mileage monster
What are clip ons on a motorcycle?

I like the look of it, it's sleek and kind of futuristic looking, and the exhaust pipe blends in nicely rather than sticking out like a sore thumb.

Clip on is when the handlebar assembly attaches to the fork tubes directly, majority of sport bikes ( crotch rockets) most conventional motorcycles have a handlebar clamp that is attached to the triple clamp. The clip on bars are often angled down. It puts you in a very similar position to a jockey on a race horse. Your arms are extended out, torso is slightly bent, legs bent and you are in a more aerodynamic position. Regular motorcycles, your torso is more upright like a natural sitting position with your legs bent to get on the foot pegs..
When you are riding with a passenger on a sport bike you are bent over and the passenger only has the limited options of either leaning down with you, sort of laying on your back, which is you supporting the weight of their torso or sitting upright, little or nothing to hold on to and getting a direct wind blast..

All that stuff is personal preference.. You see it in bicycling as much or more.. Stem length, what is referred to as slamming the stem, handlebar with, drop, angle and position of shifters \brakes and seat height. You see crazy differences in bike set up.. Mountain biking has gone through crazy evolutions in positions. There was a trend for a long time to have crazy skinny handlebars.. Thanks to God that ended! Now you have decent bar width and handlebars that rise up.. and this..
