Wake In Fright (1971) Australian classic but a difficult watch because its so bleak and violent. Some good performances especially by Donald Pleasance but the relentless tone of the movie will put many people off. A school teacher gets stuck in a small outback town and starts to lose his mind.

Found a few really good things..
South of Heaven..Jason Sudekas is an ex-con..gets parole after pleading for mercy..girlfriend has cancer..he doesn't get any mercy..
Against the Ice..couple of exploration survivors, gritty
Severance...this is crazy good..directed and produced by Ben Stiller..Adam Scott is fantastic and everyone else in the ultra creepy show is equally awesome..they get brain modification to have completely separate memories for work and home..which ever place your in you have no memory of the other...check your home life at the door when you go to work..and it's done w a chip placed in your brain..
If you have seen Adam Scott play the evil in Step Brothers w Will Ferrell and John C Rielly you are going to have a hard time believing that anybody is capable of this..

Domain (2016) - Terrific and halfway original sci-fi storyline, just poorly executed. The acting, sets, and dialogue were lacking, but the wardrobe especially is where the poor budget showed. It's as if someone had found some leftover pieces of fabric and had sewn them together like a quilt, the space-age outfits were so bad they were good! Despite its flaws I would actually recommend this hidden sci-fi gem.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) great cast of British actors, superbly shot, an espionage story set during the Cold War but without any of the Hollywood heroics. While it doesn't reach the heights set by the brilliant 70's TV series, as a movie length version it is quite good.

For once last night's Oscars were actually pretty entertaining, but only because Will Smith went up on stage and slapped Chris Rock after Rock had made a joke about Smith's wife's alopecia. I have to admit I did chuckle at Rock's G.I. Jane reference at first, but only because I wasn't aware of Jada Pinkett's actual alopecia till later. The Smiths (the Hollywood couple, not the band) apparently do have some bizarre drama in their private lives that I couldn't be arsed to follow on social media, and Chris Rock's humor definitely isn't for everyone, but regardless of all that I'm sure everyone was a bit shocked to see such an emotional reaction from Smith, especially at an eleganza extravaganza like the Oscars.

Otherwise none of the nominees/nominations grabbed me this year (already saw Dune), so at least there was some unscripted drama on the stage last night. (I thought the theater stage sets were great, btw., am not sure whether they were real or computer generated. But at least there was that as well.)

Will was even laughing at the joke before he got “the look”. With everything that has gone on in their personal life that has been coming out from Jada for her show’s ratings, the slap still isn’t acceptable. Will could have said something publicly or backstage that they didn’t appreciate the joke and to stop. Which it looked like that’s what Chris thought when Will was walking up to him. It’s never okay to assault or battery someone. To then be applauded after slapping Chris was tasteless. Chris is a comedian and know for his jokes hitting close to home. Is it acceptable at your local club to do that to a comedian after they make fun of your appearance in front of your date? Chris took it on the chin, finished his part, and didn’t hit Will back even though he initially looked like he’d slap or punch Will back.

Just as well Ricky Gervais didn't do the presenter's job...........there may have been a serious injury..........

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011) thought the Swedish original was better but this is a solid remake with David Fincher's customary stylish visuals. Nice performances from Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. A family mystery about unsolved murders, and a crusading journalist who has no idea what he is getting himself into.

Bone Tomahawk (2015) Violent western/horror film with a great cast and some wit. Kurt Russell as the sheriff leads a posse to locate a criminal and the kidnapped wife of the local doctor. Reminded me a little of a Tarantino style film but I don't don't think Tarantino would have done a better job with this material. Much better than I expected.

I just watched TV series Star Trek: Picard. Excellent series I ever watched. I was using logitech headset to watch because currently I am on work and its very useful for handle conference calls.

Seen 3 movies all recently released and have this common thread of pending doom w disabled veterans!!!?
Dog is Tatum Channing..has some injuries that have him getting booted from the Marines..but if he hand delivers a ex military dog across country..
The Contractor..Chris Pine..same set up..but way way darker..Pine signs on to work as a mercenary for a private security company run by ruthless Kiefer Sutherland..lots of action..

American Assassin (2017) generic thriller with a familiar story line. Terrorists steal a nuclear device and have to be hunted down. Good start to the movie but pretty average overall. Some decent acting, plenty of action and entertaining enough. Watchable for action fans.

The Ice Forest (2014) - Lots of glares and staring into space, lots of drinking and smoking, too much gimmickry with the camera, but otherwise this was actually a pretty decent Italian thriller. The best part was the snowy scenery, and although the plot was confusing and muddled it was actually pretty dark and poignant if you think about it after watching the movie. That said with some artsy-fartsy elements The Ice Forest probably isn't for everyone.

Gog (1954) - A hilariously and endearingly cheesy 50s sci-fi flick, the costumes and robots were especially laughable. But all in all it was actually pretty watchable, except I don't think they ever explained who the bad guys were. Apparently Gog is the last part of a trilogy (which I didn't know prior to watching it), as competently as it was made I will probably not be watching the other two parts. There's only so much cheese one can handle...

Lean on Pete, race horse movie starring Steve Bushemi as the equine equivalent of Dr. Ferrari.
All the Old Knives..starring the it guy, Chris Pine..secret agent stuff w a twist or 2
Falling for Figaro..about opera..good movie,funny throughout
and as I keep trying to sell..Severance on Apple TV is simply the best show..you are on the edge of your seat and because they go traditional instead of binge style..you have to wait inbetween episodes..

The Editor (2014) A knowing parody of Italian giallo films especially the horror films of Dario Argento.70's and 80's horror film fans will have a few laughs but its a bit too long and over the top. Incoherent but its meant to be with lots of nudity and phony blood. Best watched after 6 or 7 beers............

Mrs Lowry and Son (2019) a biopic based on the English artist L.S. Lowry. A short and simple film about a man caring for his elderly mother. while trying to forge a career in art. Saved by fine performances from Vanessa Redgrave and Timothy Spall. Very slow but not boring.
