At the risk of completely derailing this thread - what actually is going on in this vid? I'm afraid I did not see (or can't remember) this particular match.

Having said that I did watch the Borg v. McEnroe movie earlier today, it was ok. Seeing as I don't remember the result of the 1980 Wimbledon final match between those two I thought it was very suspenseful. Plus, the actor who played Borg had the most awesomest hair ever, as did Borg himself.

Weird to think Borg had retired at only 26, but then after 5 Wimbledon wins what else is there to do?
It's the 1985 Australian Open QF, the fourth set.
Commentator telling: "Firstly, the line umpire called out however, the chair umpire says the ball was good. Naturally, that's a reason to protest,
John McEnroe, known too as a super brat or super grouch, of course, a super player as well, used the opportunity to argue a bit wouldn't he maybe disturb the opponent who, obviously, was improving.
The referee of the match is Peter Ballinger. Here we see the referee. He must react too.
Here you see, Boba isn't wasting time, he went to the central box, sat down, lift his legs to rest a bit, took a sandwich, a glass of water, for a moment you've seen he's been offered champagne, a pitty he refused it, should've known he'd win he could drink to his big victory.
The dialogue between McEnroe and umpires is finished.
And now we'll see that Boba Živojinović can scheme too. Right when McEnroe was ready to serve, Živojinović approached the chair umpire to ask whether he's been warned, umpire told him he hasn't been, our player answered "alright, just wanted to know what's been happening on the court"."

Later we learned Živojinoć took champagne too while having the sandwich.

It was a huge episode. Over and over repeated in media and, for the first time, the widest audience could actually assure the stories about Živojinović's character were true.
It portrayed the whole sport in a somewhat different way than it's been perceived by then, and contributed to its popularity.

Pride (2014) - I would have to read up on UK's coal mine strike of 1984 being I know next to nothing about it, but I think this movie was a decent introduction. Additionally it was interesting to learn that a LGBT group was supporting the miners knowing fully well they would be confronted with some resistance from both the miners and other LGBTers, they knew what they were up against.

The movie was described as a historical comedy/drama but I didn't laugh even once because any minute I expected for some homophobic violence to break out, and some homophobia is depicted. But for the most part Pride is pretty light, for historical accuracy I'll have to watch some documentaries. Btw., the Welsh scenery was lovely, as were Paddy Considine, Bill Nighy, and Imelda Staunton.

Robocop (2014) a remake of the 1987 movie of the same name. As typical of many modern remakes, its louder, longer and dumber. The humour of the original is mostly missing. Gary Oldman tries hard while the rest of the cast are just pedestrian in cliched roles.

Selena The Series (2020) - I've seen the movie with Jennifer Lopez a few times, so thought I'd give the recent Netflix mini (actually more like maxi) series a shot. If you're not a fan of Tejano music I would skip it because there is obviously a lot of it, but the cool thing is the rest of the soundtrack are awesome songs from the 80s and 90s I hadn't heard in decades. I think they are there to signify the changing of eras, and also, Selena was a fan and enjoyed music from the likes of Jody Watley, Paula Abdul, and Janet Jackson herself. So I don't find their inclusion problematic.

The series itself is a repetitive, drawn-out, very rated G affair where everyone always smiles through their problems, the character of Selena becomes annoyingly whiny, and the character of her father Abraham Quintanilla is an intolerable control freak who tries to come across as some kind of a sage. Still, the series fills in some blanks that the movie didn't include, but overall, for a more enjoyable viewing experience I would recommend the 1997 movie with Jennifer Lopez.

This has music crossover..
El mundo fuera..a documentary made by mega star Alejandro Sanz..it's about a year in our lives..I expected nothing less than fantastic from this guy,he delivers..
Even if you don't speak any Spanish, this is worth your time..This guy's talent and vibe transcend any language. The video and editing of this movie are magnificent

North Hollywood and Skate Girl..yep..skateboard movies both watchable.
The Father..Anthony Hopkins is great
Endangered Species..man this is close to criminally wrong
Plan B..good movie..lots of funny parts..
Green Book..I knew how everything was going to go..predictable start to finish..I enjoyed it
The Misfits..familiar story..I liked it,
Awake..similar to an Australian movie were there is an apocalypse and if you're infected by the creatures it's game over..the Australian one lots of time on a river and then get chased around by car..Awake is a movie for somebody writing or trying to make a film w no idea, no talent, money or hope..this movie shows producers will put cash behind any project.
Dancing Queens..bad..

Yeah Green Book was predictable but entertaining.

Halloween (1978) the John Carpenter original. Made on a shoestring and one of the most successful independent movies of all time. Still stands up pretty well. Good performances by Donald Pleasance and Jamie Leigh Curtis although one or two of the other performances are a little jarring. Visually good with the effective iconic music score. Slow build up for a slasher movie which adds to the suspense. The franchise became a cash cow with mostly disappointing movies to follow but still popular, even the latest editions.

Donkey Punch (2008) - The first half was actually quite good, it had the makings of an intense psychological thriller. But then during the second half things turned south, all of a sudden I felt like I was watching a gory, run-of-the-mill people end up turning on each other horror flick. At least the scenery was somewhat atypical (the setting was supposed to be off the coast of Spain, but parts were actually filmed in South Africa), and I learned about a depraved sex act called the donkey punch. The donkey punch is actually supposed to be a myth with no scientific backing, but, you learn something new every day. For better or worse.

Sounds like good pandemic viewing..............

Always (1989) even minor league Spielberg will look good as this does especially in the aerial scenes. Pilots helping to fight forest fires provide some thrills but after the first 20 minutes the movie starts to get bogged down and never recovers. Acting by Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter and John Goodman is good but too bad they didn't have better material to work with.

I think Donkey Punch would be (or was at the time) a hit with hormonal teenage boys because there is quite a bit of unabashed female nudity and sex, I'm just bummed that what started out as a promising thriller turned into something really cliché. Ah well, at least the soundtrack was interesting, it introduced me to some songs and bands I had never heard of before. So it wasn't a complete waste of time.

Having said that I watched A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story (1992) recently, while a TV movie it is actually quite good. Meredith Baxter gave a stunning performance as a woman scorned by her husband, think Baxter brought some personal experiences into the role being she had claimed one of her ex husbands (Birney) had been abusive toward her. Weird to think I remember her as the all-American mom from Family Ties, back then she was known as Meredith Baxter-Birney.

She was also in a popular series before Family Ties. Can't remember the name of it now but she was always pretty good in most things.

I didn't quite remember because her role was quite small, but she was also in All the President's Men (which I've seen about a dozen times, so I should have remembered), and the guy who played her husband in All the President's Men also played her husband in A Woman Scorned. What a small world.

Family (1976-80) was quite a popular series. She had a regular role in that but popped up in many TV series around that time.

Yes! Good call (or recall), I remember watching that series when I still lived in Germany. Besides Baxter Kristy McNichol was also in it, but I especially remember Sada Thompson because she had reminded me of my own grandma a bit. Don't know what I would think of that series now, but I really liked it as a kid. Speaking of Family...

According to wiki there were a ton of notable guest stars on Family, I don't remember that at all. But then I was just a wee cinephile in the making at the time... apparently Ted Danson, Dominique Dunne, Michael J. Fox, Tommy Lee Jones, Michael Keaton, Linda Lavin, Samantha Eggar, Dinah Manoff, Kim Cattrall, Shelley Long, Henry Fonda, Mare Winningham, Helen Hunt, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Annie Potts, Charlotte Rae, Sheree North, Kim Richards, Leif Garrett, Steve Guttenberg, Constance McCashin, Brooke Adams, Doris Roberts, Mildred Natwick, Genie Francis, David Dukes, Howard Hesseman, Vic Tayback, Lance Kerwin, Stephanie Zimbalist, Greg Mullavey, Dana Hill, Dana Plato, Judith Chapman, Lisa Whelchel, Louise Latham, Brent Spiner, and Jenny O'Hara had made guest appearances.

Good god, even Data had made an appearance on Family? That's hilarious.

Which probably says a lot about its popularity at the time. Even now, actors like to have cameos on popular series or even more substantial roles mainly to improve their profile, at least for the younger ones. I remember reading that the series was a big hit in Germany. Australia also used to screen it and I remember seeing bits of it but I wasn't a regular viewer of the series. Might give it a look.

The Girl in the Fog (2017) - A journey into the absurd, don't know whether Italian laws and police are as ridiculous and as incompetent as depicted in this thriller. Plus, there were just one twists too many, the ending was just stupid. At least the scenery (Italian Alps) was lovely, so there's that.

And now we hop over to the French Alps...

The Crimson Rivers (2000) - It started out being reminiscent of Se7en in that the murders were truly gruesome and there was potential for suspense, but then things got really silly and predictable. Ah well, at least the French Alps and Vincent Cassel were nice to look at, so there's that.

Halloween III (1982) a sequel that has nothing to do with the previous two movies. The storyline is a bit nuts but some of it is amusing, intentionally or not. The director is having some fun with the whole Halloween concept and he partially succeeds. Entertaining in parts but a bit loopy..............

You're on a real Halloween kick lately, are you going to go through the whole franchise?

I don't think I've ever seen Halloween III... I liked the first two because they are memorable (I think I like the second one more than you do), but I just can't remember whether I've seen the rest of the sequels, prequels, remakes, etc. Probably because I don't want to.

Had enough Halloween for the moment but yes I'm going to watch them all, a few including the last one, I haven't seen.
