12 Feet Deep (2017) - A journey into the absurd... actually, left in more competent hands this could have been a decent horror/thriller. The setting was certainly there, but everything else fell short. For example, the lead characters certainly weren't the stupidest of people, they found some clever ways to get out of their situation. But the most obvious solution (they and the camera certainly focused on the stupid diamond ring enough), they skipped. So I guess the lead characters were stupid after all...

Anyhoo, this one is a regrettable miss.

All The Colors Of The Dark (1972) Italian thriller. A woman loses her baby and starts to have psychological issues. Not bad at all. Well acted by the two leads. Visually good although the music was a little eccentric and sometimes out of place.

Top Gun: Maverick

Flashed me back to the time of part 1. I remember somebody told me the movie was displayed at military schools here for educational purposes.
I'm sure there were things to look at but at the time of the decadent Cold War, the propaganda and the winds of change were what the attention should've been paid at.

...As if they weren't familiar with the concept.

But somehow they missed it and a few years later ran straight to Moscow to make an agreement with the bunch that will be arrested in the failed coup a few weeks later... what farsightedness!
The aftermath is well known, "the fifth army in Europe" turned into marauders and runaway convicts, bitterly struggling to maintain a heroic image all over the region to this very day.

Looking eastwards makes me wonder what's the extent of the sequel...

We saw The Invitation (2022) for our $3 movie and it left a lot to be desired. Many points they could have expanded upon that was left off screen and to our imagination causing the movie to be short and the ending to get rushed. It is touted as a horror-suspenseful movie that relied on cheap, typical horror with a slow middle section. Apparently it is a lot like Ready or Not and the trailer for the movie let’s you see all of the important parts. The best part of the night was my fiancé and I going to In-n-Out with her trying to be fancy by ordering a patty with cheese instead of saying a cheeseburger and getting what she asked for, literally.

Watch Shawshank Redemption and other most anticipated movies only on the Cinema HD app. These days I am watching the prequels of GOT and Lord of the Rings. Download Cinema HD to watch these shows for free.

Not a movie but I've been watching Inspector Morse recently, what a miserable, grim character and the series itself ends on a grim note. Morse has the making of a typical Brit cosy in that some very fancy amoral people get murdered in usually beautiful surroundings, but if it wasn't for his sidekick Lewis I think the series would be unwatchable. Not sure whether I should even tackle Endeavour...

It is fun to see all the actors who got their start in the older Brit crime series like Inspector Morse though, seems like most of them graduated onto starring in their very own series like Lewis, Midsomer Murders, New Tricks, Rosemary & Thyme, etc.. So besides Lewis' character this graduation is another thing that makes Inspector Morse watchable... Lewis the series, btw., I actually enjoyed. Lewis the character is relatable.

Blood and Black Lace (1964) gonzo Italian horror/thriller from Mario Bava. Superb visuals and set design even if the story is a stretch. Highly influential on the horror/thriller genre. Not a masterpiece but very entertaining. 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes is about right.

The Evil Eye (1963) Italian thriller from Mario Bava with some weird comedy. The usual visual style from Bava, also making good use of the locations in Rome. Maybe not one of his best movies but entertaining. Kind of like an attempt to make an Italian Hitchcock movie.

I watched it also and was overwhelmed with confusion.. She somehow completed a vampire family tree and then had something internal that allowed her to go after her arranged marriage husband and his family even after she was full fledged vampire herself..

Lou is a movie about a woman who everyone thinks of as Anna Farris' mom..and suddenly she is an ex special ops killer.. Comes out of retirement suddenly to save a kidnapped child.. Ooops.
Section 8..only watched the first 10 minutes.. Even w the best special effects and make up..Dolf Lundgren as a current active duty Marine was just too far for me

a pretty strange one.. Guy Pearce plays a tormented writer..has some twists that are similar to his @30 years ago.. Momento.. Supposedly takes place in S.California but I watched it in constant curiosity.. Credits said Portugal.. The Infernal Machine is the title.
one that is worth your time.. really really eye opening.. The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone about an Australian kid that is full of surprises from early childhood and leaves you really, over the top curious about life in general.. And for me was another example of all I don't know

Yeah the movie was all over with convenient and confusing plot devices throughout. When we had got the tickets the movie had like a 92 score on Rotten Tomatoes, after we saw the movie it had dropped to 10%.

Escape Room (2017) - Not sure how many Escape Room horror flicks there are at this point, but this is the one that doesn't even have a wiki entry and that you can stream for free just about anywhere. There is nothing original about it except for all the loose ends, I guess if nothing else at least you end up questioning why anything in this movie happened at all. Plus, despite the obviously low budget, the visuals and sets are at least halfway okay, so there's that.

I think the Morse character is very well crafted, but is better suited to the page than the screen. And I think the original series is borderline unwatchable now.

Columbo has aged far better, but it was also made for television.

We saw The Woman King (2022) and Blood Red Sky 2021 (2021) this past week. I’d give the former 9/10 and her 10/10. It had a lot of good parts, characters, actors, and action but was hard to follow at times or understand the overall plot with a boring, slow middle section. The later turned into a vampire movie on a plane (first snakes, now vampires!) that is billed as horror but only scary in that it’d scare a child. It follows already established plots but had a confusing beginning. With the way it ended it didn’t set up a sequel though one is in the works, and if the knowledge of a sequel was known beforehand the movie could have had a better ending to set up the sequel.

Krampus (2015) - Thought this horror flick would be a lot more kid-friendly and have some kind of a holiday message for kids, but at times it was actually really grim and creepy even for an adult. It did ultimately have a message but it was disjointed, and also, I liked Toni Collette in Little Miss Sunshine, but in Krampus she played a similar role but seemed to be just phoning it in. The visuals were nice though, so there's that.

Invitation to Hell (1984) - Hilariously awful 80s TV horror flick, some of the casting choices were pretty bizarre but this only added to the hilarity. (Joanna Cassidy was too old for the role and what All My Children's Susan Lucci was even doing in this is a mystery. She was just terrible.) Otherwise it's a terrific time capsule of the 80s - loved seeing all the old cars and clothes, hair/makeup, and interior decorating styles... Not scary, but this movie was at least good for something.

Triangle (2009) - So, I fell asleep in the middle of this psychological horror flick, so I probably missed some very crucial parts. But having watched the beginning and the end at least (kinda like a NFL game) I thought given the budget it was pretty well done. For a time loop movie. Speaking of time loop...

The only time loop movie I've ever actually enjoyed was Groundhog Day, the admittedly very few others I've seen I just thought were using time loop for no specific reason at all except to mess with your mind. (Generally speaking I am not a fan of time loop - the movie might be a complete mess otherwise, but time loop can make it appear edgy and the storytelling doesn't have to make sense. So, I am not a fan of time loop.)

Knives out (2019). - Watched it yesterday, heard a lot of good things about the movie. Tldr, it's okay. Really like the way it was shot, constume work is amazing. Main heroine was a bit bland and somewhat passive imo(she didn't feel like a moving force of the story, more like a character that just happens to be in right place at the right time). Other than that great cast and a good twist in the end. Solid 8.5/10 in my book.

Groundhog Day is one of my absolute favourite movies (2nd behind The Fountain)! I should probably rewatch it more often.

I didn't care much for Triangle but it has a cult following for some reason. Didn't think it was anything special. Groundhog Day one of Bill Murray's best before he started appearing in all of those disillusioned old man movies which he was often good in. But with his current problems I don't think his phone will be ringing as often anymore. The cancellation mob has him in their sights.

I liked Murray in his earlier films like Stripes and Meatballs, as well as on SNL, I kinda lost touch (and interest) with what he was doing after Groundhog Day. (I have never seen Rushmore, for example.)

I'm only just now catching up on the snowstorm of allegations of inappropriate behavior against Murray, to be honest I'm not terribly shocked. From the old SNL gang Chevy Chase especially struck me as a smug jerk, so Murray being a jerk also...

I think stuff they were able to get away with in the 70s would no longer be considered appropriate even just a decade later. Maybe Murray just never grew up.

For those who aren't caught up on all that's going on regarding Murray... this article says that Murray hated Chris Farley. Why??

I liked Rushmore. The kid in it was very funny as well.

it seems most people Chase worked with couldn't stand him but most of them thought he was talented. Think I only saw one of his movies that I liked.

Alice Sweet Alice (1976) psycho/thriller with lots of religious overtones. Has become a cult movie. Brooke Shields first movie. I think the atmosphere and the visuals worked better than the acting, and the music score was effective. Stands up pretty well for a low budget movie from the 70s.
