RIP Levon Helm, drummer of one the seminal groups of the last 50 years, The Band. A wonderful voice, a great musician, and a great human being.

Just yesterday I was watching Last Waltz (again). Couldn't help but shed a tear (ok, a lot of them). Loved the heart he put on stage.

I'm 22 and I was very surprised when I first listened to them. How can something that good not get enough recognition these days? I couldn't find yet one person here who knows them or their work. Even though the majority of my acquitances weren't around during their most notorious time/original formation, It's still a bit shocking.

I'll also leave a little contribuition to the thread. I've been listening to:

Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside - Not an Animal. Link
Slow Club - Two Cousins (cover) Link
The Kills - Future Starts Slow LINK

THIS:
Laura Marling - Sophia. What an amazing song, love it!!!

Nice. I believe I've posted some songs of her a few pages ago too. She's an amazing artist:) I like her second album more as a whole, but "A Creature I Don't Know" has some very powerful songs. Sophia is one of them for sure.

Band of Susans - Elizabeth Stride (1843-1888)
Band of Susans - The Pursuit of Happiness

They sure knew how to kickstart an album! The former opens their 1995 release 'Here Comes Success' with a droning nine minute epic about one of Jack the Ripper's victims - it's drawn out and reaches a wonderful climax around the 6-7 minute mark. The latter is pure in-your-face-tripple-guitar-attack, kicking off their 1989 album 'Love Agenda'.

Two stunning tracks.
