They are from just up the road in good ole Concord NC!

Hey, usedtobe, check out Endless Boogie. In fact, everyone should listen to them, but I think you in particular will like them. They are 4 guys from Brooklyn who work in a record store and only play shows when asked. (no traditional tours). They play these extended Canned Heat type of jams that are very different from most of the "jam band" thing, but just freaking awesome. A friend of mine who is in the music industry saw them this past Friday and she was blown away. Said she hadn't seen anyone like that since the early 70's. I started an internet search, and heard a couple of songs and went and bought the only CD I could find. (They put out the music on vinyl, but that will have to come later). Amazing stuff.

Just checked out this link and then a few other songs by the Decemberists. I had never heard of them. They are really good. Thanks for the link.

we love them... theyre over in england in november, trying to work out how we are getting to them... they are also amazing live, a lot of audience participation, band members having light sabre fights in the audience, audience joining them on stage to sing, and general silliness..

favourite one of theres, just cos i love the video...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaNV7eCU2R0&feature=related

on a side note my chimney sweep loved it and took the bands details with him.. :D

the crane wife is a great album, but im stuck on picaresque at the moment, its just going round and round.. there albums are very much designed to be listened to as one complete album..

Oh man Husker Du!! One of my favorite albums of all time is Land Speed Record!!

You have a pretty good list there.

The older I get the more my tasts change. Used to be heavy with the CroMags, Exploited, DRI, Agnostic Front, and the hardcore scene. Now I find myself listening to Dwight Yoakam, Oak Ridge Boys, Almond Bros., The Highwaymen, etc. I did take my youngest to a Jonas Brothers concert last year...just about died from the music and little girl screams...but I made it. What we won't do for our kids.

I never did the real hardcore scene. I did listen to some DK, Black Flag, Fear, Big Black, and others, but I like melodic stuff a bit more. I consider Husker to be on the melodic side. When I lived in Athens GA, I got to see Sugar's first show. Mould came to town and recruited Dave Barbe for bass. They practiced in this old skate shop, and then played a couple of warm up shows. Pretty good, but REALLY LOUD. Almost too loud if there is such a thing...

David Allen Coe! I haven't thought of him in ages, but I instantly remember his absolutely classic song, "You Never Even Call Me By My Name," with the most incredible lyrics, for "the perfect country song":

Well, I was drunk the day my Mom got outta prison.
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But, before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got runned over by a damned old train.

Here in NC, if you are born here, you are required to sing those lyrics after having consumed a 12 pack at lest once in your life...AND I'LL HANG AROUND AS LONG AS YOU WILL LET ME!

He has some more...how do you say..."colorful" lyrics on a couple of old albums. I also have it on very good authority that the guy is a serious prick even with his new found religion.
