When it comes to music, I'm the type of person who's always searching for something new. Usually when I discovered some new artist I listen to it way too much and, you know, desperately search the internet for related artists and other music with a similar style. I listen to that stuff day and night for weeks until I get completely tired from it and move on to something new again and the same thing repeats itself over and over and it has been doing that for years now. But sometimes after I've moved on I might remember some artist or style that I used to listen to again. So I give it another listen and it will usually still be nice and interesting and all but it doesn't quite have the same appeal anymore as it did before. Some of the enthusiasm from when I listened to it before was just some hype involved in finding something new and exciting and when it's not new it's not quite as exciting anymore. However, sometimes it's different; every now and then I remember some artist or style that I used to listen to and you turn it on again and it blows me away again just like before. Then for me I know I've found something amazing that's there to stay in my music library.
'Bout two years ago someone told me about some Israeli jazz band called "Third World Love" and somewhere throughout last year I really got into that band a lot and I started looking for related artists and other music with a similar style. Some of the band members had their own projects (especially Avishai Cohen - the trumpeter, not the more well player bass player with the same name - and Omer Avital) and I found out there was apparently something of an Israeli jazz scene and I really liked it. I haven't really been listening to it for a couple of months now, but I gave it a good listen again just now and it's still as amazing as it ever was. So for me I just confirmed for myself that this Israeli jazz music wasn't just a hype or some period for me but it's really just amazing music. It's not overly complex and technical like some of the other jazz I like to listen to, the melodies, the rythms, the harmonies, they're all (relatively) simple, but they're amazing, beautiful and sweet, exquisite so to speak.
If anybody bothered to read this post and cares about it, here's some examples of what I've been listening to last year and now again this evening which evoked this reaction from me
