So people, what do you all think about Bob Dylan receiving the Nobel Lit. prize?

Like many people I thought it was an odd choice. Dylan is neither a great poet or literary writer but he is great songwriter. I assumed that Murukami or DeLillo would have won it. Don't forget that Jethro Tull won best Heavy Metal act at the Grammy's beating out Metallica so in the history of prizes there have been stranger ones.

The Nobel setup is largely irrelevant these days. However I do like lots of Dylan's lyrics and music.

I don't think it's irrelevant and such a generous prize can still change the lives of people who who been producing quality work in relative obscurity. The Booker Prize is never agreed upon either but I think this time the they have attempted to be more progressive or less conservative and make choice from left field. Whether song writing should be part of a literature prize even a great songwriter is what people can't agree upon. I think there are more deserving poets and novelists out there who deserved it more. If it was the Nobel Prize for songwriting no one would blink twice.

Nas feat. AZ - Life's a ***

In the pantheon of all time great rap albums, for me the only real question is, Illmatic or Liquid Swords?

I rap for listeners, bluntheads, fly ladies and prisoners

Best song on Illmatic is Halftime. I hate The World Is Yours so can't listen to the whole thing + some of the time I hate One Love too :geek:. My GOAT hip hop album is Ghostface Ironman but earlier this year I really reconnected with Low End Theory for some reason and then Phife's sad sad passing happened so it's close.
