I had not heard Cornell or the Foals before. I liked them. Foals was really different and interesting. Thanks.

Can't believe no Styx has been posted yet, tho they are a bit old school. Styx - Renegade

I suggest you to get to know Foals better. Amazing stuff. It really is.

Across the Universe
(popped on the internet radio station, great tune that I had not heard in a while. Is it by Lenon?)

This is one of the all-time most memorable guitar solos and perfect guitar interpretation of a classic music ("Flight of the Bumblebee" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov) performed by the GREAT Portuguese guitarist Nuno Bettencourt (from Extreme). This solo is a part of the Extreme's song "He-Man Woman Hater" but it makes no difference, only solo:

Nuno Bettencourt - Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee (short version but a better video)

total rip off riff but that is cool

You mean Nirvana's was, I assume?

Jaz Coleman is one of the craziest guys in music. But damn, did Killing Joke rule back then.

Track one on their first album - what a way to introduce yourself to the world!

That era was the best for music. More great post-punks:

Public Image Ltd (possibly the best TV band performance of all time, and why Lydon is still better known for the Sex Pistols than this is a complete travesty):

Come to think of it, maybe Killing Joke's was too. This is the Damned from 1982: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaDbMZlN2Pg ;) And yes, KJ ware one of a kind. Was it after the first record that Jaz convinced himself that there was a nuclear war coming and that Iceland would be the ideal place to duck the fallout. He lived there a couple of years if I remember correctly.

On another note, I'd like to add Mission of Burma to Libertine's concise listing, although some might disagree whether they really represent post punk in its purest form at all. For one thing they are American! If you have spotify, check out Burma's "Weatherbox" and "Tremelo" from the Horrible Truth about Burma live recording. So intense. Somehow they are not on youtube. The album versions from "Vs." are good, but less jagged: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPqm1r-r1wU

Gang of Four and Wire are worth mentioning, too.
