When has Quintana ever had a bad day on a proper (at least by Tour standarts) mountain stage in the 3rd week.
Valverde wouldn't have attacked and Anacona wouldn't have pulled earlier if Quintana was sick/not feeling well from the start, maybe it was just the heat?
I think it's not the amount of TT km that hurts Nairo in a , by modern standarts, usualy Tour, it's the lack of long, hard mountain stages at high altitude and having a team that isn't great in the crosswinds, they don't bring enough strongman to the Tour and most of their strongest riders on the flat are TT specialists that lack classic experience and aren't exactly veterans when it comes to that kind of racing.

You dont distinguish between the difference on having a bad day and weakness. You can be very strong and have a bad day.

Tomoroow is a perfect day for Froome, he has a very good recovery and he is very strong but he copuld have a bad day as Nibali had in climbing ITT at Il Giro.

Nairo is strong and he will recover time with Froome some day. He has difficult to win and SKy is very strong, but he is an exceptional climber and he is not at 10 minute to rule him out. This Tour maybe has just 2 good days for him to attack, but the race is like that and he cant do anything.

I just don't see where Quintana puts time into Froome over the next few days, he clearly doesn't have the legs, he was dropped by Meintjes, this is not the same Quintana we are used to, simple as.

Uhh he could finish 2nd easily. Why would he abandon?

He was going to win this Tour easily from what I heard. Froome would blow up "easily" in the third week as well. What else do we have?

Hes not even conserving his spot imo. Seems like a bad case of Landis right there.

He will slide further back in the next two stages for sure but he probably won't be the only one. You don't suddenly return to form with two mountain stages to go after losing time on the others and in the TT.

He said that there is something wrong with him, maybe an allergy or something. He feels he doesn't have strength at some points and fine at others. He said he was really disappointed with his TT. Most other riders will take a top 10 and taking time on 2nd and 3rd with the TT but not Nairo. He feels it was a bad performance. I find it odd, however, that they announce today he will be the team leader at the Vuelta. Weird timing

And I believe is the best way to close this Tour chapter for him - not even bothering with lame podium aspirations of that sort- but rather deal with defeat, learn the hard lessons, move on, prepare better - him and Movistar to approach the Tour much better next year with a different mentality & skills. He'll be alright :)

indeed, since he's doing the Olympics as well, doesn't he?

He should copy the others next year and go to Dauphine finally. Even some guy from Sky said last year that Route de Sud is not optimal because you are going to the Tour 'undercooked'.

I dno. He didn't race after Pais Vasco in 2013 and had the almost exact same schedule as in 2015.

The Danish commentator, Rolf Sørensen, has pointed that out again and again since the first day - that he didn't race Dauphine/Suisse, neglecting that he didn't race them the other years as well. And thats apparently the reason why he is doing this poorly. That annoys me quite a bit, I think its the right thing to go in to the Tour a little undercooked. Also, Quintana is generally at a very, very high level after coming back from Colombia.

He should quit and go to vuelta

Ridiculous statement.

Still the podium to fight for. I think he can do it. We still believe, Nairito!
Cmonnnn
Podium is pointless, he has 2 second places...better to fight for la Vuelta victory with fresher legs. (but he should have abandoned before today's stage)

"I wasn’t expecting to be feeling this way. It’s not fatigued how I feel, but my body doesn’t respond properly either. It might be some sort of allergy around which has hit me furing the last few days - my legs don’t simply get as much oxygen as I need. I hope that rain falls during the next days, so I can feel better and hope for the podium. Despite not finding that great form, at the moment it doesn’t look like a bad place to be in, fourth and ready to fight for the TDF podium. Let’s see how by body responds towards Saturday - if this allergy limiting myself goes out, I might respond as I normally do. Thanks to all Colombians for their support, messages and tweets: they’ve always been there in all times, good and bad.”

You just don't quit with couple of stages to go and while 4th in the GC and not injured/ill. I mean what team, what DS would allow that!!! It would be cowardly and a great disrespect to the race!

Indeed, its utter nonsense at this point.

I just heard an interview of him after the TT- his was disappointing with the results ,claimed to may be suffering from some sort of allergy-doesn't know yet- he said "his body refuses to respond at the level he wished- but nonetheless he bowed to finish the race & fight for a podium spot.

does that sound like Contador 2013? he said his number was high but the performance was below par. Maybe it's the case of delusional feeling "on form"?

I just read the same thing. That he body was feeling very good but at the end his body was not responding. Movistar and him still do not know what it is.
