Murito :(

Unzue is a ****. Imagine how much money we could have all made had he put Nairo as leader for the 2013 Giro when all those idiot "journos" thought he was 1/10 th of the rider of old man Evans. His odds going into that Giro would have been like 400-1 and we wouldnt have had him do no 1st place in Pais Vasco to lower those odds.

Instead for god knows what reason, that year unzue sends quintana to the tour, and now, when everyone knows how good he is, he goes to the giro

I think it was obvious VV was going to lead Tour...

BigMac said:
No way Quintana will lead Tour next year, unless Valverde gets injured or something. Quintana doesn't stand a chance in the Tour because he won't get a gap on Froome big enough before the TT, if he does get one. That said, VV will want to try for a Tour top3 before he sticks to Vuelta and classics for the rest of his career.

BigMac said:
No that is not what i am saying. My point is, since Quintana won't be a factor, VV will lead and give a Tour podium his last shot.

:) This means at least 2 GT overall wins for Movistar next year

JROD still has a chance because of the time bonuses, Porte because of the ITT.

Quintana can also do Murito-type last k sprints, that's what won him the stage on Semnoz and Burgos. He won't lose much to Rodriguez boni-wise, and he's much more consistent than Porte over three weeks. He's the number one Giro favourite by far, especially when considering his ongoing progression over the last years.

Nairo Quitana: First Colombian ever to win Il Giro:)

......and then 2nd to win La Vuelta:D

Last year Quintana was scheduled for Giro till April time.

Then they changed it.

I wouldn't think this will be final decision in this 'saga'.

Even the article says with google translate ' no final decision until mid - decemember ' ..

The fact Unzue is announcing "partially" his view on who is going where-even if for any reason it changes along the course of the year, seems he's aiming primarily for a GT title with Nairo, since Valverde only cares for a TDF podium that won't happen....

Quintana was never going to ride the Giro in 2013. The Tour was his target all along. The cobbles of next year however have made him hesitant to aim at the TdF podium again, which makes sense. It's probably bad for the excitement of both Tour and Giro though, the Vuelta will probably be the best GT of the year again.

Froome vs. Quintana vs. Nibali vs. Contador >>> Porte vs. Jrod vs. Quintana

I really would prefer Quintana to target the TDF and have an epic battle there with Purito finally winning a GT.

Errr I think you mean Froome vs (remote possibility of) injuries vs scandal vs multiple mechanicals.

Cos Quintana Contador and Nibali have no chance against Froome. I don't know what people were watching in July but it was a performance that could have won any grand tour ever raced with the possible exception of some of Indurain TDFs.

Ventoux and ax 3 was immense indeed, but last week Froome would have trouble against quite a few riders up thrtough the years me think. But I do see you point ;)

Hopefully Porte won't be a challenger.

You mean he'll ride the Tour ? There is no way Porte won't be a challenger. Maybe De Gendt and Hesjedal will do something out of character again and podium. Then again............

This was also my first thought. Only with a different smiley :D

Are you as a moderator allowed to bash riders purposely? I think it's really annoying. Please don't respond if you're want to insult a rider. That's better for everyone.

F.cking Unzue, and his obsession for Valverde. I have the only possible challenger for Froome? F.ck it, I'll still make Valverde my leader.

I understand Quintana swerving the Tour this year, but will there be a TDF with as little TT kms in it again for the foreseeable? What if TDF '15 has 80kms of TT? This year seems very much a climbers route. Having said that i fully expect Quintana to win il giro

I think Quintana made the choice to ride the Giro because of the cobbles stage. I think he thinks he wil lose 2/3 minutes on Froome. I think that's bull****, but if you starting to believe in something..

My statement was more related to the probable ammount of entertainment, than to the probability of Quintana, Contador or Nibali beating Froome. Quintana, if he survives the cobbles, will give Froome a decent fight in the mountains for three weeks. If he even manages to get a lead I agree it will most likely nowhere near enough to stay ahead of Froome in the final TT. Add Nibali and Contador with very strong teams and the will to do stupid risky attacks in hilly stages, multiple mountain stages and descents, and I reckon that GT will almost certainly be far more entertaining than Quintana riding away from everybody in the Giro.
