His nemesis is out, this has to be his year if he is ever won the TDF

Fingers crossed touch wood and anything else I can think of! I don't even care if he leaves Movistar next year I would love to see him win it if only to prove all his critics wrong. I just hope that he has the courage to go for it.

Agree. If he doesnt win this year he most likely never wins (he most likely never wins in the first place). Thing is, if he wins this year, the win will always have an asterisk to it unless he absolutely demolishes the opposition (and that 'opposition' shouldnt be old Peraud or young Pinot), but in-form Bernal, Thomas and Dumoulin.

No, asterisks are only for when you don't win on the road, then the winner is dq'd and you end up winner in the history books.

Technically it obviously wont have an asterisk, but it will feel that way to me.

If in theory he wins mountain stages by a minute plus you would have to doubt even 2013 froome would struggle to hold the wheel, but I understand where you are coming from

That lone leader thing is pissing me off. Everybody wants to make Landa the villain, illoyal etc. etc. Couldn't be further from the truth. It truly pisses me off.

Why does any team need to have a sole leader when you have multiples options??? Its ALWAYS better to have more riders up in the GC. Look at the Giro for heavens sake and stop crucifying Landa to no end which has been the tradition for 4 straight years. Did Landa and Carapaz profit from each other? Was Landa loyal? YES. Its almost like people don't watch the races or are totally brainwashed by some pushed narrative and incompetent to make their own judgements. God damn man.

I still like to think, that he will improve from here to July - but the Tour podium, let alone the victory, does look far, far away. He shone bright before 2017, but a strong flame goes out early, isn't that how a proverb goes?

"The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long - and you have burned so very, very brightly, Nairo."

Followed by...

"Time to die"

Not a good performance getting beat by Teuns, Lambrecht, Lutsenko. But there is still time considering 4 weeks to the mountains. 15-20 w gains or 2-3 kgs drop can still be achieved in the time. I hope Movistar urgently steps in to help him focus on the details.
If he doesn't podium his market value will tank

Options:

1- He simply does not have it anymore. Which is strange.
2- Bad training. Get him out of his home country for training.
3- He using Dauphine as training and he did not look as concerned. However he made his team work hard at the bottom of the climb.

The sole leader BS is stupid. Looking to things now. Landa should be co-leader as well. The question is why take Valverde to the Tour? let him go all out for his Vuelta.

Maybe Valverde is using the Tour as training for la Vuelta? Otherwise I still have no clue why he's going unless due to missing the Giro he can't bring himself to not race 2 GTs in a season.

Quintana attacked, which is good. Quintana getting dropped by Tejay is not good regardless of how good Tejay is climbing right now. Tejay actually today appears to be climbing fairly well. No matter how well Tejay is climbing he should be putting 30 seconds on a climber.

Can we can give Landa leadership at the Tour? At least he was climbing well at the Giro.

He's starting to age like his looks.

Definitely worse than his usual form in prep races, but he almost always races the last prep race possible before a GT, so normally he doesn't have another altitude camp left.
Yes, it's also the first year that he's being coached by Bartoli (just like Bernal), so it could actually be a new approach.

I seriously feel that Quintana needs a fresh start and go in a team that provides him with better coaching and have training blocks with the team...
I agree with this. I have said he needs a new approach. But we have to wait for another year. The Continent French team would be a bad change IMHO.

I've thought this for about 2 years now. Hope it's not too late at this point.

Better coaching? Unzue won 15 GT titles
Nobody argues that. But what works for some might not work for others.
Having said that he won 2 with Quintana.
It happens that rider and coach get exhausted of each other and they just need to part ways. (Sounds like boyfriend and girlfriend. :D )
