It is not confirmed at all. It's just an article from Biciciclismo that stated Unzue himself wants it that way, but it still has to be decided.

lol @ reactions here then. it's just based on assumptions of quintana and unzue who said after tour presentation they feared the cobbles.

Thanks for clearing that up, Ryo - I just assumed it was confirmed

The funny thing is that Quintana already beat Porte in the "Vuelta al Pais Vasco" TT.

What's the profile of the Giro TT like? If it is hilly then Quintana won't lose much time at all but if it is flat then Porte will take a couple of minutes from him (which still might not be enough).

I have Porte in pink after the Flat TT and I think it should be by a couple of minutes.

Thanks. Porte should take at least a minute and a half from Quintana on the flat TT but could lose a bit of time on the MTT and will lose a couple of minutes in the mountains at least even without a bad day. Quintana should win it if he goes.

Quintana could very well take between one and one and a half minutes on Porte in the MTT.

Porte beat him quite comfortably in the Paris-Nice MTT. Although obviously Col d'Eze isn't the Monte Grappa.

I don't think it is, otherwise this 'news' is quite random and not really news.

Well he also beat him quite comfortably on the MTF, which I don't expect to happen in a GT, where they both are on top form.

If the superior climber can't count on taking 3 minutes on the inferior climber in the mountains, cycling is dead.

How much did Andy take on Cadel in '11 ;)

It could be naive from my part, but I don't think Movistar needs to reveal their strategy when they can wait and get a better look at the picture. They know what Sky will do, but other teams haven't said what they will do.
Having said so, I'd put Nairo in Giro just to give him a better chance to win a GT, although the low ITT mileage in TdF might me tempting.

Porte might duck now :(

If he commits I think he still has a strong chance, should be a memorable contest.

Why should he duck? If he wants to have a shot at a GT he has no other choice. He has to go for the Giro.

Baseless speculation / promotion, IMO. It hasn't been decided yet.
Well if they put a quote from Nairo it is not baseless... If he didn't say it they might get sued.

I don't believe they'd get sued over some trivial stuff like that.

A link to the actual source of that quote would be nice, though...

Porte will be forced to bring his P-N '13 form if he wants to win the Giro next year. It could setup a fierce battle.

Giro's facebook page announces Quintana will be there to win it. :)

edit: Twitter too

The use of Quintana in the giro picture after the route announcement suggested that he had agreed to participate already. Maybe they are offering Quintana (and Movistar) a financial incentive (or offered to pick a Quintana friendly route-hence the steep MTT) to participate this year in return for using him as marketing.

It was not so very long ago that the giro papers had contador announcing he was going to the 2013 giro.

iirc the quote of Contador was saying "IF I go to the Giro it'll be to win it." He did say it in a press confrerence before San Luis.
This quote, otoh, is pretty straightforward. Anyway I agree with Valve, I'd like to know the source too.

don't believe anything the italians say. especially in media. see the pathetic paduva case, which I called bs on almost 2 years ago and it is. it's always attention seeking bs. rai and gazzetta are prime examples of this(di luca begging for gods mercy by a priest)
