And I think that ride this Giro was an impressive idea,it looks like it helped him a lot.For me the most important upragade is self confidence,he lacked that!

That's the best post-race interview of a sports person I've ever read. So much confidence, but at the same time you can feel he's not arrogant, but he also doesn't try to feign modesty.

Quintana is quite right, he is of terran rather than extra terrestrial origin. As such he is not yet ready to truly challenge the Alien, though if he immerses himself in the art of the flat time trial over the winter and becomes word class at it, we will see an epic duel in the 2015 Tour

Yes, I want to see him do well in the flat tt's, but not at the expense of his climbing. He is so amazing in the mountains. Hopefully he can find that balance between the two.

I also thought he would, but he didn't, in my opinion. He won 2 stages, with a 6 and 17 second difference to Hesjedahl and Aru. That is not 'crushing'. Without the Stelvio debacle, how much would his lead be?

I'd say he crushed it on Val Martello and Monte Grappa, those were some very strong rides he pulled off. But I did expect more from him on Zoncolan (expected more action overall from the GC's on that stage). So I'd probably agree, overall he didn't dominate quite as much to the degree I thought he would, but he definitely had a few stages where his performances were above average.

If it's all true what he says (about not being 100% in terms of health and form) then it's scary to think what his capabilities could be. Probably we are witnessing arrival of the best climber of his generation. As for his TTs he will always lose time there (look at his physique) but there is some GT tendency (even at the Tour) of reducing flat TT kilometers. So it's not so difficult to imagine Quintana as a serial GT winner (including a few TdF).

One think I noticed about his climbing is that he doesn't have that attacking punch (like Contador) which could be a disadvantage. However he excells during very long climbs and toughest stages full of mountains. I think that his long-distance climbing endurance is unparalleled (not even by Froome or Contador) but there are riders better at changing tempo and intervals, which obviously is very important during mountain stages.

Actually I dont want him to become much better in TT.I always wished to see win GT's (esp Tour) 'Schleck type' of rider - of course he is much better than Andy in TT but still he is not Armstrong,Menchov or Contador.
I want him to be more like Pantani,to see him always few minutes down in half of GT and then riding away from everyone else,these moments would be truly epic.


Like Krzyztof said,he lacks punch,he is diesel and thats very rare to excellent climber,it could make races interesting.You saw that on Ventoux last year (even tho he was tired from long range attack).
I hope he can motive himself in summer to train really hard and focus on Vuelta.These parcours are not good for him at all (except one stage) and opponents will be tough.There will be Giri guys,Tour guys and esp hard to beat will be Purito and Tour guys who will crash out of Tour(always in good shape).

I agree that he isn't very very explosive and doesn't have a powerful acceleration. But when it comes to constant changes of pace and short bursts and acceleration he is definately one of the best. Look at how he dropped Hesjedal and Rolland fx. Numerous small accelerations and suddenly they are in the red zone and unable to follow his wheel.

Yes, he can discreetly (but efficiently) change pace and it works in a small group of cyclists on their limit at the end of a tough stage. But attacking from larger group or on medium-length ascent would be difficult for him. And strong punches could be decisive especially on many Vuelta climbs.

I hope he does the vuelta this year and displaces Valverde on Movistar once and for all. Anyhow, TdF next year will be awesome, even if there are many flat ITT kms.

For a guy his size there is a limit on how good he can get in flat TT IMHO. So don't worry, he is already acceptable enough.

That's not the only problem. With a guy of his capabilities you must at least try FGS. Anything can happen. It also depends on the parcours design.

He was the same in the final week as he was in others, his performance relative to the other contenders didn't change except for Froome who wore himself out going full *** at every tiniest slightest chance to expend energy, like so many predicted pre-Tour that he would, drunk with his own powers.

That's actually why Contador stands a chance this year. The TT is at the end, maybe Froome will repeat the stupidity and be dead by the time it rolls around.

Final week, first week, second week. Irrelevant. He's a brilliant climber and he'll be up there regardless of what stage the climbs are on.

I know how it works,but Unzue is crazy,and if Valverde goes for Tour even next year,then it woul be possible for Nairo to does it (leader Giro+co-leader Tour e.g.)
