It is not a shock. People in this forum have never understood that. Maybe it is a young audience. But in reality if any of us are in the same situation the podium or top ten is very important as well.

Now for a guy like Contador and soon Quintana the podium will not be as important because they don't gain anything by repeating it.
What?? Contador at age of 24, was always attacking rasmussen and he was in second place. So contador never rode for second place while quintana cares about second place

Contador is better, blah, blah, blah. Contador obviously had the legs, look at just how insane his attacks were. The problem here isn't they don't wanna do that, the problem is they can't, simples.

Yes, the only reason contador could do that can only be talked about in the clinic

Yeah, you are right. I remember his first Tour de France fighting for first place and not the podium.

It would have been really interesting to see him in 2006 after his 2005 TdF

Even though he was subpar so far. I fully expect Quintana to be 2nd at least. I never forgot his monster 3rd weeks in the Giro and Tour(s). Some people seem to have forgotten tho
He only needs to gain two positions. Yates was always at the back of the group with Meintjes in the Grand Colombier, so he's likely to drop in the Alps. Then there is a Dutchman with a chance to win a GT for the third time in a row :D

If Froome has no teammates at the final climb he will attack by himself and destroy all the others or do a nice MTT with 400 watts like in the Vuelta 14.
Did you just throw out a number or do you really think it's just 400 watts? Poels was doing more than that for the top part of Grand Colombier and then all of the Lacets climb. Froome should be able to do at least 430W. Probably with a few 650W accelerations thrown in.

From interviews during a rest day it seems that he doesnt rely too much on that MTT,so thats nice to hear.
I think he will attack tomorrow if he has legs for it and Sky is not super super strong.

Yup, while emphasizing that he doesnt race to create a spectacle (which Contador SOMETIMES does), only to win and thats how he feels he has the best chance, being conservative after the windy days where he clearly wasn't strong. He needs to take time tomorrow.

Nairo Quintana has warned that in the last day (Morzine) he will try a big bid for winning the Tour.

At the same time, Valverde has said that the team is going to pass to the offensive and that they have a plan to do so:

Maybe an alliance with Astana is on the works, as Unzue suggests?:

Lets just hope that boring Quintana and conservative Movistar do something grand for this time.

Too bad if the Ramaz is out then, needs to try earlier if he has learned anything from 2015

IMO, the key is to try to gain time in ALL alpine stages in order to be in striking distance (1 minute or so) when the Morzine stage comes up.

If he has the legs and the courage to do so, of course.

All hopeless unless Froome genuinely cracks.
Has Froome ever properly cracked in a GT? (Obviously post-2011 transformation). It would take some serious mis-calculation for him to crack big time considering he just rides to power. Even when he's been miles from top form in the Vuelta, he doesn't crack, he just yo-yos a bit and ends up losing about 10-20 seconds, riding at his own pace.

In La Vuelta 2012 I remember some busts, but yeah, he is not going to explode.
