But he's Mestizo. See Dayer, he's clearly Mestizo.

Also being indigenous is a cultural thing here, rather than a "racial" one.

you're splitting hairs. in a country as racist as colombia, especially with its indigenous population, quintana is an important role model.

it's a position that he seems to acknowledge, based on positions he's taken: supporting the paro nacional a couple of years ago, doing a commercial to say that men should share the domestic work at home, and being pro peace.

he's a leader both on and off the bike.

Quintana is flying to Europa today.

The hunt is on. Does anybody know if its only Lombardia?

if he is doing it for points, he may not do any if Sagan doesn't pass him. If he is, not sure if he needs a one day race to get ready for Lombardia. My hope is D'Emilia where he won in 2012

Undeniable proof that Quintana is using a motor. ;)

I didn't even get a chance to submit a message saying "here comes the motor comments" LOL.

I hope and think he will ride regardless and I would prefer Milan-Turin as a warmup. :p

it's not about these things, it's just that a Vuelta a Spain win doesn't deserve so much hype. Of course it was mostly about the money for the sponsors.

Funny thing is, there might be a scenario where even a Lombardia win won't help Nairo if Sagan continues like this. :D

Sagan: 599, Quintana: 609. 10 points.
Sagan current position in GC: 1.
Eneco Tour Number of stages left: 2 (TTT doesn't count).
Eneco Tour points per stage: 6,4,2,1,1.
Eneco Tour final GC points: 100,80,70,60,50,40,30,20,10,4
Ill Lombardia final points: 100,80,70,60,50,40,30,20,10,4

If Sagan wins another stage and comes in top 2 on the other, then it's simple for Quintana: Do one better than Sagan does in Eneco GC at Lombardia. If Sagan wins Eneco Tour (very possible), Quintana is done. If He gets top 3, Nairo has to finish top 3 at Lombardia. Lombardia happens to be one of my favorite races (who can forget Purito winning in the rain or the time that every rider named in the Colombian Worlds team finished in top 20). This just adds more reason to watch the final monument.

no word yet if nairo is doing Lombardia. He needs top 3 in Lombardia to win the UCI points race. Sagan is up by 60

His current points deficit could be a great thing if he does participate. Many times I get the feeling Nairo doesn't even try to do well in one day races.

When does he ever race one day races tho? He has done decently in Lombardia on a few occasions, won Emilia, but he hasn't really raced that much else. Well, he has also done the Ardennes one year.

He usually rides multiple big one day races every year. In addition to Lombardia, he's also ridden the Ardennes a couple of times (2013 and 2015), plus San Sebastian and GP Miguel Indurain. The lack of one day races this year is more the exception rather than the rule.

True, he also did the Ardennes in 2015. I forgot about that (probably due to how invisible he was, as in 2013). I don't know if he necessarily could do much better there, but I agree with you he probably is a bit indifferent since he knows he can't win it anyways. But Lombardia suits him much better than the Ardennes and he should be motivated this time around, one of the first times he actually will be the leader of such a race.

Can't say I like Quintana while I certainly enjoy Sagan's style of racing, but if Quintana doesn't end up on top spot of the WT rankings, it's purely because of TA's queen stage being cancelled

That the ranking system is completely flawed in the first place, that's a different matter

Well no, it's not a different matter that lame prep races like Catalunya and Romandie offer more points than the Ronde van Vlaanderen (you also earn points for individual stage placings and also wearing the leader jersey if I'm not mistaken).

So, according to this article (in Spanish), Quintana and Movistar are seriously considering the Giro-Tour double for 2017.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. He will almost certainly forfeit any chance of winning the Tour next year by doing this, but I'd love to see him riding the Giro again.

If he tries, I think it's likely that he will be more successful than Contador was in 2015.

I think that if He decides to do the Giro-Tour double would be only with the main objective of winning the Tour only. In other words he could use the Giro as preparation. Which is a weird thing to say but it works for some riders like Ulrich. Maybe they noticed that his level was very high duting the Vuelta. Who knows.

At the end of the day I don't believe that He will do it.

Not sure how I feel about it. I have no doubt Quintana could ride the Giro and ride the Tour in a very good shape, but I doubt anyone's ability to hit absolute peak for July when riding the Giro. I'd kinda fear it would take the edge of both the Giro and the Tour unless Nibali or Contador hit heights many find doubtful.

If Froome were to do the Giro as well, then I'm all for Quintana going. That would add a lot of suspense to the whole GT season I think.

Trying for the Giro-Tour double before you've been able to win the Tour smells a bit of hubris. I don't think he'll try it. He's won the Giro and winning it again makes relatively little difference to his palmares or standing in the sport. Winning the Tour is a huge boost to both.

(Has anyone won their first Tour as part of a Giro-Tour double other than Coppi, Pantani and Roche?)
