Good heart again by Quintana today. He's clearly not got the legs, but is just about keeping himself within reach of the podium if he can find his best form in the third week.

I agree. He lost today but not dead. I think hell improve in the last week

Yeah, his fighting qualities are really under-rated I think. To only lose 20 seconds on the descent and flat 12km at the end, when there was a group of decent rouleurs working well together up front, showed a lot of guts.

I actually think he rode a good race today. 6th strongest of the favorites on Mont du Chat.

I mean, for sure he's not going to win the Tour. But, instead of Contador, he's in sufficient shape to do a full *** attack in the Pyrenees and Alps. Could spice things up in GC as a secondary GC rider.

I know they needed him for Valverde, but such a waste for him to ride Tour and not get ready for Vuelta. It feels like completely wasted year for him.

Yeah well Contador's career is also over
Ridiculous post... if you want to argue about contador, just do it in the contador's thread

The only reason you come in this topic is to hate, i've never seen you posting something 'normal' here

Back ontopic: He fought and wasn't that bad today. If he becomes better he still could try to reach the podium.

I wonder if we're setting the standards a bit high for him. It does kind of feel wasted, but he still has finished 2nd in a GT, winning a stage on the hardest climb in the race, he may well finish top 10 in another, and he has won a couple of stage races. Plus he will have learnt a lot about what his body can and can't handle.

Not a great year by any means, but I think it was worth trying just to see how it went. He wasn't going to beat Froome at the Tour probably by trying the same approach that has failed for the last 4 years.

He still has an outside chance at a podium finish so he might as well go on. What would he gain from a DNF at this point?

Hasn't the team to set up something alike, especially in the mountains. They made some big errors with the compo with Movistar, Castroviejo not at his usual level ( lost maybe some motivation as he wants to leave), Amador clearly not recovered from his efforts in the Giro. Only Betancur is in a decent shape. It's up to Aru and Bardet to do something big. This Tour is over for Quintana.

I think what these last two tours have shown is that you take away Quintana and Valverde, and Movistar are actually really weak in the mountains. They're basically a squad full of rouleurs and all-rounders with the two stars left to fend for themselves when the road goes up.

Quintana aint got jack ***. Just doesn't have it and won't get it later this race either. Too bad really. Maybe just a off-year?

Now I really don't believe he did the Giro at 80% as some claim.

This is not true at all... they have amador (who is clearly spent because of the giro), herrada had a terrible crash, soler, fernandez

Isn't that true of every team really?

Sky's ridiculous lineup of climbing doms distorts things for everyone else.

Movistar have better doms than most.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED, that Quintana is not at his absolute best after racing the Giro.

He was at his best but his best is not the best.

We have our answers for this Tour clearly today but yeah I tend to agree. This, by no means is a wasted year. He's learnt a lot. But also the fact that has emerged over the last 4 years is clear - Froome is a far better all round rider than Quintana. Thats the fact and results match that. Quintana may score a little higher on the pure climbing but on all other disciplines Froome is a far superior rider. Froome will of course eventually age and I guess only then Nairo can conquer TDF. He has tried everything within his limits but Froome is just way too good. Not to forget the support of the SkyTrain.

I'd love to see Quintana destroy Froome when he is in his prime but I guess thats really unlikely to happen.

Quintana probably will ride better in the 3rd week this tour but of course by then it will be too late even for a podium.

Soler's the one... but it seems like they are protecting him a bit which is understandable. Amador is a grinder who limits his losses on the climbs, not really a great domestique. And I think Herrada and Fernandez are more all-roundes really. They are never going to be hanging deep in the high mountains like Sky's train would do. Considering Movistar are the closest challengers to Sky, the gulf in climbing talent is huge between the two- and way bigger than the gulf in talent on flat or rolling terrain I think.

Quintana always starts GC's slow... errr...except for the Vuelta last year which spurred this decision. So since its backfired they should just loose time and go for stage wins or try something exciting. As a fan I'm tired of seeing him hang on for podium spots with his superior consistency and climbing. They need to spark some interest in Quintana as a rider.
