Quintana's teammates were not around him after the crash. Neither riders dropped back to help him get back to the peloton, at least that what it looked like. Not a very loved teammate

While Porte had more helpers, Quintana had at least Oliveira, Erviti and Verona (?) with him. Basically did not have is nose in the wind in the chase. Unfortunately i do not have a video clip but it was visible on Eurosport.

Porte had more helpers cause they all fell with him and Cicconi or at lest stopped riding and unclipped from the crash.

Arkea - Samsic? Sure, why not? They'll get invites to the GTs, and can probably get a top 5 out of Quintana next year. Having Winner and Dayan onboard should help, too. If Quintana finishes podium or Top 5 in the TdF it will look pretty smart. Movistar can build around Carapaz now, unless Ineos swoops in.

They may get invites to the Giro and Tour, but not la Vuelta. La Vuelta is going to take Spanish Pro Conti teams with their invites over anything else. However, if you then look at it that way it's also less likely they get a Giro invite if the Giro thinks they will get a Tour invite and thus Quintana likely not go to the Giro.
However, this move has been rumored for several months. The big question is did he not get any offers from any WT teams?

They are not inviting Burgos-BH over a former winner of the race!

Currently 3 Spanish pro conti teams. Caja Rural will automatically get one of the 2 invites they'll have. The other one will likely go to either Burgos-BH or Euskadi Basque Country - Murias. Also there is a possibility that Contador's team is making the jump to Pro Conti next year. It's very possible they take Caja Rural and Contador's team with their 2 wild cards.

Isn’t the wild card system changing with Races having to take top ranked teams

Not if they give two more WT licenses without dropping two current WT teams. That leaves only 2 wild cards and the GTs will get to pick whomever they want. That was already announced. The must take the top 2 Pro Conti teams requires having 4 wild cards which requires 18 not 20 WT teams.

And a Spanish speaking one at that. I would guess that if Quintana goes to Arkea and says, I want to do the Vuelta, along with my Spanish-speaking domestiques, they'd figure out a way to get him in. I'm not following the sponsorship shenanigans too closely but if Katusha goes away some pro conti team will fill the spot.

Yes, the point was that he had no helpers with him, which is clearly not true.

No way Burgos-BH gets an invite! They have clinic problems and are useless at that level anyway. They got beaten by Team Medellin in the TTT of the Tour of Quinghai Lake by like 6 minutes a few days ago.

They got one this year already. Cofidis and the 3 Spanish Pro Conti teams have the wild cards this year, so yes it is possible. Again you're forgetting there's a 3rd pro conti team in Spain and rumors are Contador is taking his Conti team Pro Conti making for another one and it's highly unlikely they leave Caja Rural and Contador's team out of la Vuelta. Don't think there is anyway to even buy your way in at that point.

The big rumors are Katusha is merging with Israel Cycling Academy and vd Poel's team and will keep that WT license.

Yes it's very likely and possible they leave Quintana out in favor of a Spanish Pro Conti team that will animate the race and put riders out in the break for TV time.

Well, this adds to the list of expats never really accepted, politics, I hope that his new team gets more funding by having a real GC contender. Movistar is Valverde's team and he never got full team support. Just wishy-washy commitments. Nairo didn't help himself though...didn't show class. His supporters can mention late TdF surges, but they were more about Sky under suspicion trying to deflect the attention.

Now for the rest of the TdF he needs to kick arses. Show Movistar what they're losing. Attract money to his new team. Maybe do Giro-Vuelta next year and come back to get the prize. After Poulidor, the best rider not to win this bike race may be Nairo Quintana.

He will have no excuses at the new team and he is only 29 but I think it's a good move and also taking riders with him that he obviously trusts.

He has accepted to help Landa (and Valverde too I guess) the rest of the Tour - reached his ceiling (which was very high, perhaps even higher than Froome's) at a very young age, but hasn't looked like himself since 2015, bar the 2016 Vuelta, I guess. A sad sight to behold, but before declaring him as finished, I'd like to see how he performs in his next team (Arkea-Samsic?). After all, he did show some promise in the spring.

unfortunately we are witnessing a decline of one of the brightest grand tour specialists over last 5-7 years. probably, nairo will show some spark yet winning one the queen mountain stages...

He hasn’t been a factor in years.
to be honest he is gradually on downward by performing increasingly worse in a fourth consecutive year. nonetheless quintana's status noticeably fell only in last year's tour, so one still might have expected some surprise from him, but not this time...

The Tour in 2016 was the first time he looked bad while riding GC in any kind of race. It was a minor miracle he managed to podium. I’d be very interested to find out what his real problem is. It is baffling that he declined so quickly while still being so young. Was it lack of discipline? Too much attention at home? I’ve no idea, but at the kind of level he was at, it really only takes small physiological changes to look mundane.

It’s very strange to see riders that, while great in certain disciplines, were never close to his level in 1 and 3 week races, suddenly look much better than him while being 5 or more years older.
