This is spot on. And how can Mahomes turn a loss into a positive? By going next level deep on teammate relationship and loyalty. To teammates and fans PM's defense of Taylor Swift's boyfriend and the trade wide receiver is noted..if nothing else it's cheap easy motivation. Any American paying attention knows that there is a real value in saying that you lost unfairly and were cheated. Go w what works

Flacco has had plenty of bad games over the last few years, but this point is very true. They have a terrific defense, and if he can just make throws, keep mistakes to a minimum, and be a savvy, calm veteran leader, he's their best chance for them to win. I'm honestly pulling for the guy big time!

The problem is there's a really, really old saying. If you don't die as the hero, you may live long enough to be the villain.

This past week may have been the crossing of the Rubicon. After all the wins, and all the heroics. Then after all the questionable calls. Plus the endless commercials with Mahomes, Reid. Plus Kelce and Taylor and Brittany, and all the Swifties... People may have had enough of the Chiefs.

Who here is ready to see Dan Campbell's Lions take on the Joe Flacco led Browns in the Super Bowl? :cool: LOL!

Seriously though, I'm tired of reading about it too. I'm tired of reading about the Chiefs overreaction, and I'm tired of reading about fans and sportswriters overreaction to their overreaction. Get over it!

If we want to talk about the Chiefs, let's look to Sunday; as bad as New England is, they looked okay last week against a good Steeler defense, and could this Sunday's game be interesting? How will the Chiefs recover? And what about the hubbub that Belicheck is gone after the season, which he continues to brush off? He and Andy Reid are friends and have matched up well against one another many times over the years. If the Chiefs are methodical they should beat New England by double digits. If not...?

Another "Chiefs thing" to talk about is they have the most favorable schedule to HFA, but they are two games behind Baltimore, and one behind Jacksonville. Baltimore has to play both SF and Jax. But the Chiefs also have to play Cincinnati who has looked good with Browning, and are in desperation mode to make the playoffs.

Well, yes, those guys did too, it just want televised and/or replayed 1,000,000 times and blasted out to everyone's phone. Staubach was my first 'favorite player' when I was a kid. I was only able to see the Cowboys play twice a year (regular season) because that's how it was back then. Joe showed some fire. I rarely saw the raiders play, but Plunket was a silent assassin who would have walked up to the official and quietly told him how terrible he was.

Raiders were a week early for this domination. The way both teams were playing I thought it was going to be another low 10 scoring game but the Chargers just rolled over and died. If I was the Raiders I would have got as many points as possible. Payton and Staley both gave up the most points this year but only 1 is getting fired, with it being many years of people asking for it. Hopefully Raiders bring this same fire next week.

Incredible game by the Raiders. Aiden O'Connell looked like Tom Brady out there. And their defense was just fierce and aggressive play after play.

The adaptability of HC Antonio Pierce is amazing. The Raiders simply don't have the talent to make a deep playoff run, and the Chargers are a mess. But Pierce has learned and grown and led the team in an impressive way, and seeking continuing advice from the likes of Marvin Lewis and Tom Coughlin shows how open his mind is, how respectful he is, and how badly he wants the job, even if he isn't the best coach in the NFL today. Plus the players love the guy. If Mark Davis lets him leave in order to hire Jon Gruden back, he's a total idiot beyond all comprehension.

Is there any point for the Chargers to not fire Staley tomorrow morning? I mean, there's no possible way he's the HC on January 8th. Why even wait? Why not see what the team can possibly do without him, with what's left of this season? I haven't followed them that closely, but this was a terrible loss across the board, against a below average team.

Chargers still haven’t recovered from that playoff debacle from last season, when they led the Jaguars 27-7 and completely capitulated. They are basically a mirror image of the Falcons.

The Chargers press conference was brutal. The reporters did not let up on Staley and were grilling him. At one point he said something like, "this type of game has happened to every coach." And a reporter responded "no it hasn't. Only one other game since 2000 has a team been down 42-0 at the half." (The hapless Bears against an Aaron Rodgers Packer team in like 2014.) To Staley's credit he didn't come off like a jerk, but still, he's another example of how a good coordinator doesn't make a good HC. He said the team likes him, and maybe they do, but I can't see him surviving this. I mean, the Raiders scored zero points last week. They were playing a rookie QB in his 6th start. They were missing their best RB. They were missing their two best linemen (LT and C), their best WR is recovering from the flu. They have an interim HC and interim OC, who have never had the job before. And yet the Chargers gave up 63 points to them. I know every bounce went the Raiders way, but this is just inexcusable.

Felt really bad for Easton Stick. He looked just shell shocked in the presser. His first NFL start and their coaching staff relied on him way too much, setting him up to fail. He did show some raw talent in garbage time to put up some respectable numbers (against the bottom end of the Raiders bench), maybe he can find some silver lining in that.

"On paper" LAC should have been 13-4 this season, but whooh, what happened?! The HC isn't the only problem obviously, but now I have joined with the rest of the world that BS has to go.

EDIT: Repeated on morning radio: BS said in November that they are in every game, if they start getting blown out then we can say they have problems...

Sorry for the paraphrase but the quote is along those lines though.

I wonder what/who Spanos is thinking about replacements? I'm a Kellen Moore fan, but I wonder if he's ready? He and Herbert didn't have the success that I anticipated they would, but I chalk a lot of that up to Justin not really being health this year. I'd like to see them have another year together as OC/QB1 (would a new HC keep KM? Depends on 'who' I guess.). Kellen is a football mastermind, but I wonder how that will translate to HC? There is a rumor that he is scheduled to interview with Carolina (which he already did last January). What football based GM (think John Lynch type) is out there? EDIT: is JoJo the permanent new guy? He wasn't too great at NYJ.

EDIT 2: Just heard someone say that Sanders would be perfect for the LAC HC job...I don't agree.

With Herbert broken, coaching staff crippled w injuries, mathematical impossible, I would place someone from current staff as temp coach,
GM entirely different animal, if Spanos tradition holds true will not have freedom. Sanders terrible fit.
Pie in the sky is BB coming from Patriots or that guy in Michigan. And with all the trading in sports, why don't the Chargers just trade for Pete Carroll!!!
I only know the problems, not the solutions and I would have included defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach in the to be fired list.
If LAC just roll over and claim the rest of the season a rebuilding year, step back, maybe best thing.. Sit some current banged up starters.

Well, they anointed Giff Smith interim coach. Maybe he can get something out of the team. They have a lot of work ahead. Eckeler has had a fairly disappointing season, turned the ball over a lot, and Stick is a raw talent. He has what appears to be a good arm, and legs to run, but he needs a lot of work, and they likely have to toss half the passing playbook out starting right now. They can't just stick the guy out there and expect him to do 90% of what Herbert did, which appears to be what happened last night. I don't know if that was Staley, or Moore, or both, but the fish stinks from the head. Staley's firing I'm sure surprises no one. He probably walked into his office this morning with an empty box, before Spanos even called him for a meeting.

Will Spanos hire a GM to hire a coach? Or work under the thinking the HC should control more? Also, while there's a opportunity to work with Herbert, they also just shut a window to build a team under his rookie contract. He's now paid a huge sum of money, and the Chargers are heading into a few years with little cap space, and potential dead money. Spanos is one of the cheaper owners. But unlike Mark Davis who seems to have done a good job increasing his wealth - which he also spends, Spanos doesn't like to spend. It's more likely he'll try to find some wizard HC at a lower rate (like he did with Staley, and Lynn and Mike McCoy).

I'm very serious. This has been reported on a few times, and not just by internet crackpots. It's been said by reporters that he didn't want to fire Gruden in the first place. He's always felt Gruden was the coach for the Raiders, and his father made a mistake in getting rid of him, leaving Chucky with "unfinished business" with the Raiders. Davis possibly thinks he can turn back time to the year 2000 and Gruden is just better than everyone. Mark also has a history of being distracted by shiny things. So it's quite possible if he just can't get Gruden, he'll push hard to get Harbaugh.

The irony of course is Antonio Pierce actually IS a Raider. Yes, he played for the Giants and did great in helping them win a Super Bowl. But he grew up a Raider fan, "straight outta Compton". He completely understands what it means to be a Raider. Gruden is from Ohio, didn't come up a Raider, didn't stick with the Raiders his entire career.

I'm not saying Pierce is certain to lead the Raiders to a slew of championships. You never know. But at this point in time, for this team, he seems like he's the best guy for the job for the next few years going forward. His players would fall on a sword for this guy. Hiring Gruden would be a total disaster setting the Raiders back another decade.

Three games on Saturday:

MIN@CIN - The winner here increases their chances of making the playoffs. Well, more so for the Bengals. The Vikings D behind Brian Flores has stifled some teams of late. Will they put a damper to Browning's good story?
PIT@IND - Both teams fighting for WC spot. The Steelers have been terrible on offense with Trubisky. Indy has been scrappy.
DEN@DET - Denver also fighting for a playoff spot. The Lions have been inconsistent, but quite good at home.

Four of six teams starting back up QBs. This brings up an interesting question. Is there a GM or exec out there (Paul DePodestra in Cleveland? David Tepper?!) doing any sort of cost benefit analysis on QBs? If a QB is going to take up one sixth of your entire team's salary, and about half of the league's starting QB misses large portions of the season on average, what's the point of sinking so much money into one player? Is even Patrick Mahomes worth that? I guess if he's healthy. But even with him it may only be a matter of time. Consider this:

2023 NFL team salary cap: $224m

Joe Burrow: $55m - Out for season.
Justin Herbert: $52m - Out for season.
Lamar Jackson: $52m - Playing very well, hasn't finished a full season in a few years.
Jalen Hurts: $51m - Playing very good, may be playing hurt.
Russell Wilson: $49 - Playing okay. Seems healthy. Rarely misses games.
Kyler Murray: $47 - Just came back after missing most of the season.
Deshaun Watson: $46 - Out for the season.
Patrick Mahomes: $45 - Playing great. Seems healthy.

Go further down the list. Allen, Dak, Goff, Stafford and Carr are all mostly healthy and high paid. Rodgers, Daniel Jones, Cousins are also paid high, and out for the year. Tannehill is fairly highly paid, been hurt, and now benched.

There has to be someone out there seeing these QB injuries and wondering if it's worth the cost?
