Brady is too old but if we’re taking an old retired player, rather him. Heck if he wanted someone in the system already he could have tried getting Ryan who retired sooner. Of everyone available I’d pick Heinicke.
It also says something about coaching and advancement in offensive coordination. Colts are probably thinking that Rivers understands the schemes and playbook that team uses and he will take a little less time to adapt to current emergency conditions. Colts as an organization might not think of going with no quarterback.
If it was me I would go after Taysom Hill who you could get for cheap.

Adapting to "current emergency conditions" takes on meaning of it's own if he plays against Seattle. That shouldn't happen but whatever wage he's paid on the practice squad should immediately have an additional $Lebentymillion bonus to take a snap against the Seahawks.

Saw an interesting post practice interview with Kyle Shanahan who admitted that he was just about to sign Rivers when Jimmy G broke his foot but he held off and told Rivers that they were taking a good look at their newly drafted QB in Purdy who was showing good signs and the rest of course is history. Purdy hit the ground running and went on a winning streak in his first season.

Rivers is going to get murdered out there. He hasn't played in five years. He may have elite size at 6-5, 230 (if he still weighs that) but that's a 44 yr old body. Rodgers isn't exactly small either at 225 but when he got drilled from behind by Bosa he was extremely lucky that all he sustained was a lacerated nose. He may not be so lucky on the next one. This isn't flag football...this is the NFL - does Rivers not understand that?

Can you imagine getting blasted by Bosa where he collapses his weight on you. Bosa = 280 lbs, 4.7, 28 bench press reps:

I just can't see him playing. It's madness. That video was sure amusing though. Both Tomlin, and Rivers himself. He's nuts if he thinks he'll survive a hard hit. But in a strange way, I'm kind of rooting for him! Imagine if their season were on the brink, he came in, and actually won a game that got them into the playoffs...and they played the Chargers! It would be like one of those sports bio movies Disney loves. I can see it now, coming to a theater to you in 2030. The Legend of Grandpa Philip Rivers.

Most athletes don't call it quits until totally proven they don't have it anymore. Muhammad Ali to Michael Jordan, to Brett Favre to Deion Sanders and may more. Far, far fewer are like Barry Sanders.

Considering Rivers last year for the Colts was pretty decent, he was a lot closer to Sanders than the others. A 97 passer rating, 68% completion. 4,169 yards, 24 TD and II ints. I can see how like many he may have wondered if he retired too soon.

That was an impressive year with the Colts where he led the team to a 11-5 record & playoff berth narrowly losing to Buffalo 27-24 in the WC round. A far cry from the year before at SD where he played mediocre leading the team to 5-11 & of course no postseason. That one lousy season ended it all for him at SD as the team didn't resign him the following year instead drafting Herbert with the 6th OA pick.

Interesting article about Leonard & the signing of Rivers. I feel for the guy. Steichen apparently had enough confidence in Leonard promoting him to backup after AR went on IR earlier in the season. Jones goes down & Leonard has a bad game in his first exposure to a regular season game (expected). Steichen does a complete 180 on Leonard losing all confidence in him by signing a 44 yr old QB who's been out of the game for 5 yrs. I guess Steichen feels he has a better chance of salvaging the season with someone like Rivers over an undeveloped rookie QB.

Russell Wilson should retire as well.
Apparently, he has no interest in retirement & is pumped to play after Micheal Ritter posted on "X" that Wilson's play in 2017-2020 would have made him the best QB in 2025:

The question is what team out there would actually want Wilson as their starter? Payton didn't want him....Tomlin didn't want him...And the Giants really didn't want him instead drafting Dart as their franchise guy. I think he's exhausted teams out there willing to commit to him as their starter?

What a magnificent performance by Kurt Cousins! 373 yds passing, 3 scores, no picks, 117 Rtg. Great game winning drive leading to the walk-off FG (faced a 2nd & 28 at one point). At 37, he's still got a rocket arm. He's definitely starting material in this league.

Costly loss for the Bucs - now in 2nd place trailing the Panthers. Mayfield stinks, he made too many bad throws & makes stupid faces in doing so. Lol. He's another 1st OA underachiever. The Bucs finished 10-7 & won the division last season - they may not even equal that record this year & lose the division.

Wilson's not going to wind the clock back 6-9 years anymore than Old Man Rivers is going to turn it back 5 years.

Rather messy game tonight, and an ugly loss for Tampa. Cousins really gutted it out late though.

Panthers have a foot in the door now and seem to be finishing the season better than the Buccs. That win over the Rams could be the difference maker and the Falcons helped them out. Falcons run game did enough to hang around until they got some errors from the Buccs in the 4th quarter. Pitts played well so did Cousins and Robinson. At 28-13 with 13 minutes to go I thought the Buccs had the game under control.............still think the Falcons coach is going to lose his job.

We know Wilson will not be with the Giants next year - it's all Jaxson Dart with maybe Winston staying as the backup

If....and this is a big if; If Carroll gets another year, would he bring Wilson to the team as his starter? Even if the Raiders shock the world & draft Mendoza with thier 1st rd pick (Mendoza should be QB1 in next year's draft & could go in the 1st rd) could you see Carroll talking Davis into signing Wilson to one-year deal?

There really is no other place for Wilson to go to. It doesn't get any worse than Tomlin not wanting him even after he led the team to the playoffs, and the Giants benching him after just 3 games in favor of Dart - who initially was supposed to sit a year under Wilson.

On Mendoza...do you really think the Raiders would draft him in the first round? I think he's a bit overrated. He's got elite height (6'5") but undersized at ~220 & looks a little flimsy to me. He certainly doesn't have Allen's size, athleticism or cannon (he's not very mobile & falls more under the "big stiff" category. Lol). He's probably the best QB out of this sad draft class coming up, which isn't saying much. So, probably some desperate team will draft him in the 1st rd.

I'm impressed: Mayfield taking total responsibility & blame for the loss. He acknowledges how bad he played & says the loss will "haunt him for a long time." You don't see a lot of hot shot QBs manning up like that at the post-game interview anymore these days.

And the experiment with Mayfield at TB isn't looking that good as initially perceived. His first year there - 2023 - the team finished 9-8 winning the division. In postseason, they beat the Eagles in the WC round & lost to the Lions in the divisional round. Not bad & it looked optimistic that the team had something to build on toward a SB run.

Last year not as good as 2023. 10-7 & won the division again but lost to the Commanders in the WC round. Big setback from the previous year.

This year they're sitting at 7-7 behind the Panthers with thier backs against the wall to repeat as division champions.

I think if the Bucs don't win the division & don't make the playoffs at least as a WC entry, Todd Bowles will be fired, IMO. The new coach will probably keep Mayfield as the starter, but he'll be put on a short lease with even higher expectations than ever before.

Fell asleep.. Team up by 14, forth quarter.. Few minutes left. Woke up.. Checked ESPN Falcons beat Bucs by 1. I missed, slept through most exciting few minutes of the game!
You’d think Pitts getting an insanely close catch before going out of bounds was the best part to get it 28-26. Falcons then decided to go 3rd and 28 on the final drive and looked all but dead after Ryan missed his open receivers twice till they got 4th and 14 and then converted that.
