Wilson to the Steelers? (I read a report a couple of days ago that he was going to Jersey & Jones was on the trading block. Lol)

I don't get the one-year contract? This doesn't make sense if they're flushing Pickett & want Wilson as the franchise QB.

Free Agency Madness begins!
  • That Cousins' signing also borders on absurd. But there is simply no other FA quarterback out there now close to his ability. Kirk's quite lucky.
  • Eagles overpaid Saquon Barkley, 3 years $37m, but if he spends more time catching the ball than running between the tackles, it could be a good signing.
  • Josh Jacobs signed by Green Bay and overpaid at $12m a year for four years, but 2024 could be a good year for him there.
  • Gabe Davis signed by Jacksonville, which doesn't surprise me at all.
  • Raiders signed Gardner Minshew, which tells me they have faith in Aiden O'Connell and won't be moving up in the draft.
  • Raiders also signed Dolphin DT Christian Wilkins to a 4-year deal, the number a lot lower than Chris Jones, but much of it guaranteed. This was a big hole in the Raider DL last year. Aggressive move by Tom Talesco.
  • The Chargers signed Gus Edwards away from Baltimore, meaning Eckler is gone (Washington?). I'm curious how Edwards approached this, as he had to be seething after barely seeing the ball at all in the AFC championship, despite being the Ravens leading ball carrier.
  • Panthers signed top guard Malcom Hunt away from Miami in an aggressive move by new GM Dan Morgan.
  • Savvy move by the Saints to re-sign Tyran Mathieu, but in a deal that shifts money into the future as they are in a salary cap bind.
  • DE Jonathan Greenard signed a big four-year, $76m deal with the Vikings, a loss for Houston. Seems like a lot of cash to me considering he thrived playing opposite Will Anderson.
  • Rams re-signed Kevin Dotson and Demarcus Robinson, and signed Jonah Jackson away from Detroit. This tells me not only is Matt Stafford more healthy than I (and others) thought, the Rams think they can seriously contend this coming season on offense.
  • On the heels of releasing Armstead, the 49ers are signing Leonard Floyd to bolster their DL.
  • Most odd of all is that Dallas has so far done nothing in FA. Not a single thing. Are they really set with what they have?
  • Expect someone to get Justin Fields at a screaming deal (Denver? Minnesota? New England?) as it's increasingly apparent the Bears are all on on drafting Caleb Williams, and everyone knows it.
Preposterous! I heard this news driving home from a workout today & laughed so hard I thought I strained an ab muscle. Lol. Mayfield's not worth half that amount of dough!
And...who is, actually?! TBH, I've been somewhat of a supporter of the guy, but even I thought that was an outrageous amount. The most crazy part is only $5m of the entire deal is in incentives!!! How can they be that confident in him?? Then again, it appears Dak Prescott is seeking a multi-year deal topping $60m a year! And sometime between now and 2025 or 2026 the Chiefs are going to re-work Mahomes deal, dwarfing this.

I'm pretty sure the Steelers are only going to pay Wilson the vet minimum, let Denver eat the rest of the money. But still, what exactly are they expecting from him in just one year? I mean, even if they think he's going to mostly be a bridge or back-up, mostly set an example for other players as a vet, just one year? There must be some contract issue there. I too thought he would sign with the Giants, to compete with Daniel Jones. After all Ciara has often spoken of her love for NY.

I'm looking at what QBs are left. Hmmm. Ryan Tannehill? Jacoby Brissett? Sam Darnold? Tyrod Taylor? Jimmy Garappolo (soon cut)? With how QBs drop like files, all these guys will be signed. But at what cost?
The sillier season is upon us...
You nailed it.

UFL starts in a little over two weeks. Most players will make about $60k. Tickets to games as low as $15 in some cities. :)

I'm sure Zach Wilson will end up somewhere, but since everyone knows the Jets want to get rid of him, other teams won't give them much of anything in return. Maybe a 6th round pick? What a terrible history for the Jets in this regard. They blow a #3 overall pick on Sam Darnold, he washes out so they dump him. They then blow a #2 overall pick on Wilson, he washes, so they're about to dump him.
No question Wilson will end up somewhere as the starter. There's still coaches out there that believe they can harness that arm talent & turn him into a franchise QB. But this remains yet to be seen & Wilson may ultimately end up as another journeyman backup following the career path of the likes of Trubisky.

The Jets must have a curse with QBs. Like you said dumping #2 & #3 OA picks just after a few years. Then they go "all hands on deck" acquiring Rodgers & he tears his Achilles on the 2nd offensive play of the first game of the season (you can't make this stuff up). And remember when Broadway Joe publicly criticized Wilson as having no business playing in the NFL - only to later walk back those comments. Lol. This league is becoming bipolar with QBs. Lol

Ccusins always gets his money even after an injury and getting closer to retirement.

I don't think those RBs are overpaid, generally RBs are underpaid these days considering what other positions are getting even kickers are getting 5 mill per season, the good ones get more.

Wilkins was a good signing for the Raiders. 49ers are working within their budget with the Floyd signing. once again the Cowboys have done little except talk it up for the past month. They were reputedly going after Barkley and Henry among others.

Darnold will eventually get signed so will Flacco but it sounds like Flacco doesn't want to sit, he's become used to playing again which will limit his opportunities. Armstead will get picked up but for nothing like he was making at the 49ers. He had off season surgery but nothing major. Vikings better hope they get the right QB in the draft. Wonder where Fields will end up.

I really like that signing by New England. He got started there, he has the ability to either be a back-up or start, and be a bridge or perhaps even "mentor" Maye or Daniels. He is also a vet whose teammates have liked him everywhere he's gone. Perfect for the Patriots.

I have a hunch Henry is going to sign with Baltimore, not Dallas. We'll see. Baltimore makes more sense as he could platoon with Dobbins, and be on a serious contender.

I'm re-thinking what I wrote about the Barkley (PHI) and Jacobs (GB) signings. Those two teams will benefit from those RBs. It's just the money seems a lot on the back end for two guys who might be past their prime, and have suffered some injuries. But both guys can catch the ball out of the backfield, and won't be expected to carry a heavy load for their teams, so it could work for both.

Joe Flacco cannot get through an entire season. He's dreaming. Let's not forget how banged up he got first in Baltimore, then Denver. That was years ago when he was youngish.

If we look at the QBs left, and who is actually starting on teams but arguably shouldn't be, then try to guess who might get hurt that is a starter (Rodgers, Burrow, Watson, Murray, Jones, Herbert... Richardson? Cousins?) it gets interesting.

For example, if Denver signed Ryan Tannehill he would certainly start over Jarett Stidham, right? Maybe not! But what if they sign Sam Darnold? Would he start? In Minnesota they have Nick Mullens, Joshua Dobbs, and Jaren Hall. I presume if they traded for Justin Fields, he would start there, right? What if instead Fields went to Denver, and the Vikings could only sign Jamis Winston? Or Sam Howell? Then what? Jaren Hall showed real promise at times, and looked like a terribly lost rookie at others. What's the plan there? And which of those guys would Zach Wilson start over? Tannehill? Fields? Probably not. And are the Jets really okay with Brett Rypian as their back-up to Rodgers? Why not sign another vet who can handle the tumult of life as a NY Jet, like Jimmy G? If you want someone younger who is a similar style maybe sign Drew Lock, or Easton Stick who had one bad game but otherwise looked okay for the Chargers. If I were the Colts I'd also be looking to sign someone another vet with starter experience like Tannehill, or Tyrod Taylor.

I presume the Bengals are going to do all they can to hold onto Jake Browning, as he was surprisingly decent as a back-up. If they can't, and someone else pays him, then what do they do?

And what are the Lions going to expect from Hendon Hooker, who sat out his entire rookie season recovering from an ACL tear? He was healthy enough to play the last month of the season, but they didn't even consider it. A perfect learning experience. Since Goff is playing so well, and still just 29 years old, and durable, are they just going to hold onto Hooker?

And what about Carson Wentz. Does anyone want him?! :hushed:

Barkley COULD really put the PHI O back to where it was.

If Jacobs can get back on form, he is just what J Love needs.

If SEA can get Armstead for $10-12 MIL they should grab him.

Eagles lost Swift to the Bears plus a few more defenders. Jacobs there to replace Jones who got released but should be a good pick up for another team. He played well in the playoffs. Saints cut Kamara maybe they would be interested depending on the price. Green Bay also cut Bakhtiari. Armstead misses too many games but he is good.

Plenty of RB swaps. Texans lost Singletary and gained Mixon. Vikings lost Mattinson and got Jones. Eagles lost Swift to the Bears and got Barkley, GB lost Jones and got Jacobs. Cowboys lost Pollard and got no one.............Henry probably one of the last name FA RB's left. Ekeler got picked up as well by Washington.
