Christian Mac becomes the highest paid running back in the league now. However, he's getting up there in age for an every down back (27), and was 43% of SF's offense last year! He had over 2000 scrimmage yards last season which was #1 in the league.

You wonder how much durability he has left - he took some big hits last year including that scary looking one on his neck in the SB. And like QBs, RBs have been sustaining a high number of significant injuries over the last couple of years.

Despite the big number, I think the signing makes some sense, as they won't have to pay Purdy $40m a year for at least the end of this contract. So they can use up CMC until that time, then move on.
I think Alpe is right about Wilson.
This report doesn't surprise me at all. I don't see him playing this season, anywhere, even if Denver cuts him, and even as other teams QBs go down with injuries. I could see a team starting someone like Tommy DeVito or Tyson Bagent instead of him. I think he has fallen that far, and there's a very good chance we'll see him vying for a job in the UFL in 2025.

Lance has supposed to be looking good at practice but it's meaningless if he can't get on the field..........and Wilson might be worse than him.........remember Rodgers saying good things about Wilson, maybe just trying to support his team mate............former......

Rodgers was to busy having fun with his pain meds and other supplements to keep up with the Jets.

Speaking of, I had a dream that the Steelers beat the Jets 40-0 with the end showing Rodgers crying on the sideline. Do with that information as you will when you place your bets.

PFF ranks the 49ers as the best team in the NFL post draft and into OTAs. They say the team is still stacked with talent, seems more focused than crushed from last year's SB loss.

Of course PFF also ranks the Jets #4 overall, which to me is laughable. But they admitted they are assuming Aaron Rodgers plays the entire season (and returns to 2022 form). They also say the Jets have the best defense in the NFL on paper. Even better than Baltimore, SF or Cleveland. We'll see. ESPN's ranking (not as thorough) has KC at #1, and the Jets at #17. I think starting 0-7 then re-signing and starting Zach Wilson is equally plausible.

PFF ranks Denver 32nd. Worse than Carolina, worse than New England. They expect Nix to really struggle (as do I), and believe the Broncos have maybe the worst pass protection OL in the NFL. They also lack playmakers, and depth (due to the Russell Wilson fiasco). Any Broncos fans out there expecting better? If they really do end up going 3-14 or so and the worst in the NFL, will Sean Payton survive?
Damn :(

(BJ Thompson cardiac arrest)
Not that they don't have enough troubles with a few players with legal issues, as well as losing Sneed, Gay. But they are of course still the Chiefs, and a heavy favorite in not only that division, but the AFC still. I earlier said I saw them going 16-1, I'm not saying that now. But if they dropped a little on defense, they will arguably be better on offense. I wouldn't be shocked if Mahomes returns to win MVP, and the Chiefs still go 14-3 and at least make it to the AFC championship, if not three-peat. I think that last part is going to be quite difficult.
Corey Lindsay retires
Double bad news. His replacement is Bradley Bozeman, who the Panthers cut last season as he gave up more sacks per snap than any other starting center. Harbaugh is however expected to implement a heavy run game (with his $260m QB throwing occasionally).

The way that article is written almost makes it sound like Lindsay retired because of Harbaugh. I know Harbaugh has been a love him or hate him type of coach, but I wonder if there is more to this story?

UFL playoffs this weekend. Championship next Sunday, the 16th.

Thanks for nothing Alpe!! All Herbert needs is yet another reason to hurry up and throw!! And having a center or guard that can't block means that the shotgun will be a yard deeper!! Chargers always have problems with Broncos and Chiefs no matter what.. And now Raiders might be a little better!!

Have no idea how Kansas is ranked behind the 49ers. Kansas are the new Patriots and have won three SB's in five years. Sure the 49ers could have have won in 2019 and 2024 but didn't and that's three SB losses in 10 years now including Harbaugh's loss. The natives are getting restless ! Kansas have lost Rice but if they didn't need Hill, they will be fine without Rice.

49ers have lost Armstead and their run defense was off even with him. They have signed some decent FA's on defense, Kinlaw gone to the Jets but he was up and down. Chase Young gone to the Saints and now they are having trouble signing Aiyuk although he is is still under contract this season. Trent Williams getting older and it's starting to show in his play against the better defenses.

The only thing in the 49ers favor is that the NFC top teams look less convincing than the AFC but they still have to contend with an emerging Lions and a revitalized Rams. Eagles without Cox and Kelce with new coordinators but with solid draft picks and a good new RB, Green Bay with a Love who should be even better this season and the Cowboys who still have to extend Dak, Parsons and Lamb. The 49ers look more settled compared to many of their NFC rivals. Their entire offense returned except for McLeod who was mainly on special teams. They have extended Jennings and CMC and Aiyuk's deal will probably get done and they have reloaded at WR and RB with some interesting rookie signings including Pearsall and Schrader.

Remember, those were PFF's numbers.

KC is still the king until someone knocks them off.

I personally like the Lions chances in the NFC. They arguably had the 49ers beat (as did the Packers), but the NFL really wanted a KC-SF rematch. I don't think the Lions really lost anything in the off-season, they may have gained more than they lost. They also learned a tough lesson, losses not only to SF but that mess of a game against Dallas. They seem focused to me, with everyone buying in behind their coach, including their OC who every team wanted.

To me the Bengals are maybe the biggest ? in the AFC. Will Joe Burrow stay healthy? They seem to have depth, but also are in a tough division. However, the have the easiest schedule of any team in that division, and one of the easiest in the NFL. This graph goes from easiest (Falcons on left) to hardest (Steelers on right). Injuries of course toss much of this out the window.

Hopefully they'll give some relief and pass to him in space a bit. Use someone else to soften up the Ds.

I think the Bo Nix project is about 2025 with this year simply a rebuilding season. No the question the future of the organization & Payton's legacy hinges on the success of Nix. Never has there been this much hype on a QB here since Shanahan drafted Cutler back in 2006 (and we all know how that turned out. Lol).

Nix looked pretty good in the OTAs & barring a disastrous preseason, he'll be the starter week #1 (granted it's only OTAs & we'll get a better picture in preseason). Will he struggle? Probably as they all do in their rookie seasons (rare exception CJ Stoud).

As you mentioned there are problems with the OL (a lot of it depends on how well Bolles can play), and play makers are a little weak though Nix's main target at Oregon, Troy Franklin, has looked exceptionally well in OTAs as well as veteran receiver Josh Reynolds (acquired from the Lions this off-season). Sutton was their playmaker last year (going into his 7th season) but Mims Jr may their best receiver going into camp (their best deep threat). The defense will be Denver's strong suit and perhaps can keep them in some games.

So, it could be an ugly season breaking in Nix (look at last year with Young - that's as ugly as it gets! Lol). However, the expectations for playoffs with Payton's job on the line will be 2025, IMO.

Still making comparisons to Brees. Lol.

Rich Eisen's optimistic view of Nix:

Breaking news!! Seattle. Seahawks signed Caitlan Clark to $300 million dollar contract to play quarterback!! She was offered an extra $40 million per year to be the player coach, she called Pete Rose and Pete Carroll and declined the job!!

Don’t put our boy @jmdirt through this.
Dirt sleeping on Pete Carroll sheets and pillowcases, w double lifesize Steve Largent wall mural, has Geno Smith pajamas w the feet. Took down his Russell Wilson patio set w 10ft umbrella and got rid of his Richard Sherman placemats, he probably still uses the Sherman plates during holidays.
I still have dozens of things marked San Diego Chargers that make me feel ashamed!! I only look at Charger stuff alone, door locked and when everyone is asleep, clear browser history..

It's SB or bust for the Jets. Ownership had stated they're one QB away from SB stardom, and they now got their man. But FFS, he couldn't even get out of the blocks last year! Lol. So, anything short of a SB appearance will be considered a failure since there's not a lot left in AR's tank - and arguably this could be his last season.

With the exception of Brady, these situations where ownership brings in an aging elite SB-winning QB near retirement to instantaneously lead them to the promised land is a joke.

Historically, it hasn't work out very well. And the Jets tried this strategy back in 2008 with Favre. He lasted one season with the Jets going 9-7 & playing the 2nd half of the season with a torn biceps tendon! Lol.

And it didn't even work out with Montana at KC in 1993/94 where he was an unimpressive 17-8 in two seasons (missed a lot of games due to injury), and 2-2 in the playoffs & no SB. And what was his final demise - he was knock out with a concussion in the 94 AFC championship game...sad. And of course, Wilson was a colossal failure with Broncos.

What's next? If things go to crap in Pittsburgh - place a call for Big Ben to come out of retirement? Lol.
