I think what impressed me the most about the Eagles is not only did they have a killer defense, but they also scored quite a few points. So they weren't just some boring defensive team who can manage to score just enough to win while not allowing the other team to score, they completely dismantled KC and showed talent on both defense and offense. KC was just completely outclassed and looked like they should go back to playing college football.

The team with the kicker that is iced by nothing usually wins..guy did re-kicks on 3 plays!!!
I watched the game in a time machine that transported me back to an ugly episode of All in the Family!! Halftime announced the sudden appearance of multiple Archie Bunker clones!!!
We had a small piece of paper and attempted a Taylor Swift Times betting pool, $5 per person.. In the end no winner because nobody kept track!! I had 5 as the number of times that the camera would show Taylor Swift, don't know what the official number of Swift sightings was but Las Vegas had a bet on how many times she would be shown!!! A better bet pool would have been the number of times that the camera cut to PM or Kelce with a stunned disgusted look on their face!!!

lol... I didn't see the whole game but from what I did see I don't recall any Taylor Swift shots at all in the second half. Good! Maybe the camera people realized this wasn't some Swifty concert and that most football fans could probably care fuckall whether she's there or not.

I think the SportsCenter tweet mentioned in the article is a bit misleading, I don't think she was laughing anything off, it looked more like an uneasy smile like she couldn't believe not every fan in the stadium was enamored by her presence.

I fully expected Kelce to pull a ring out of his cup at game's end, get down on a knee, and propose to her while the confetti flies.
Definitely Stroud is a franchise QB (no brainer). Look what he's done so far: Houston was one bad team in 2022 going 3-13-1 with David Mills at the helm. Lovie Smith is fired after just one year & new coach DeMeco Ryans drafts Stroud with the #2 pick. Sensational rookie year for Stroud going 10-7, division title, postseason with a playoff win. ROY honors & one helluva turnaround. Another division title & playoff win this past season and still a lot of upside.
We have no idea if Ward or Sanders will be better or even as good as Stroud their rookie year. We have no clue who's going to draft them yet & whether or not they will even be day 1 starters. But from what I've heard, Ward is the best QB in this draft & probably will be taken #1 --- #2 at the very least if Tennessee decides to stick with "the next Brett Favre" & forego a QB in the draft. Ward has incredible arm talent & can laser the ball with impressive accuracy. He played in Miami's air raid offense throwing for over 4300 (67%) & 39 TDs (First team All-American). He's has good size at 225 lbs & is very mobile/agile.
Check out this impressive throw for a score against Louisville. This is a similar throw that Zach Wilson made during his pro day. However, this is during a game with the receiver being covered yet Ward gets it right into that tight spot in the back of the endzone...Wow! Ward is the real deal:

- Feb 27th - Combine starts (technically the 24th, but nothing happens at first).
- Mar 4th - last day to franchise or transition tag a player.
- Mar 4th - Pro Days begin, lasting about 3 weeks.
- Mar 10 - Impending free agents can be "legally" contacted.
- Mar 12th - Actual free agency signing can begin.
- Mar 28th - UFL season starts.
- Mar 30th - League meeting with proposed rule changes and more.

There was no life at all from the Kansas bench, players or coaches it seemed. The only one showing some emotion was the DC probably because the Eagles kept finding holes in his castle wall. Kelce had four catches and the entire Kansas team ran for less yards than Hurts . Mahomes had a QBR of 15 on the game. They were simply overwhelmed until the usual garbage time points period. Less sightings of the Kansas spectator boxes was also welcomed.. Trumo showed the good sense to leave early but of course he picked Kansas to win...........
I'm still big on Sanders though I don't think he's better than Ward. I never said he was a generational talent. What I said was he basically single handedly turned the CU program around. CU had no defense, no running game, a 2nd-tier OL but Sanders & the receiving corps shined in Pat Shurmur's zone-read spread offense (over 4000 yds (74%) 37 TDs, First team All-Big 12, Johnny Unitas Award, 9-3 season). I don't think he'll be taken over Ward, but you never know he could surprise everyone at his Pro Day, Combine, etc & move ahead of Ward.
Of course Hurts is going to say "defense wins championships" after the Eagles got the "draw" on the Gunslinger. Lol. And we've always heard past SB winning QBs credit their RBs, OL, defense, special teams, etc (nothing new there).
If the Eagle's defense "won" this championship, why then was Hurts named MVP & not a defensive player? (i.e. someone like DeJean, Sweat or Williams?). There's been several defensive players named SB MVP over the past decades (Miller, Lewis, Smith, Jackson, etc). Could it be Hurts was more valuable to the team with his performance? KC stuffs Barkley & Hurts lights them up for 221 yards passing (17/22), 2 scores & that sweet bomb to Smith (plus 70 yds on the ground). We all know Hurts can run but to throw that well against the KC D is impressive.
If defense is so important why then is the league MVP dominated by offensive skill players - particularly QBs & RBs? (the last defensive player to win league MVP was Lawrence Taylor way back in 1986 ). P. Manning has won the most with 5!
And I would think if defense is so important in building a team into a winner, then more defensive players would be taken #1 OA?
Since 1970 when the "Blonde Bomber" Terry Bradshaw was drafted #1 (55 yrs ago), there have been 28 QBs vs 14 defensive players drafted #1 (51% vs 25%). It's even more pronounced recently with 8 out of the last 10 drafts where QBs were drafted #1 (Walker & Garrett were the two outliers).
And what a steal the Eagles got with Hurts taken in the late 2nd behind 1st rounders Burrow, Tua, Herbert & Love. It's funny though because the Eagle's 1st rd pick that year was WR Jalen Reagor, who was a complete bust & traded after 2 seasons to Minn for a 7th rd pick! Lol. But the Eagles more than made up for it by drafting Hurts - so no loss there.

That was the best episode of that show I've ever seen!
Because it was a team defensive effort, especially by the front four, so very hard to single out one guy. They rare (or ever in the SB?) give it to a group of players, since MVP is in the singular. And it really was a superb game by Hurts, so he deserved it. The difference is that we get to see dozens of equal or better games from QBs during the course of a season, but you can go several seasons without seeing a front line dominate a game like that.

For a defender to win regular or Super Bowl MVP they would need to have an amazing statistical season. Not only is the league and viewers more offense biased in liking higher scoring games vs defensive slugfests, but a defender could be playing amazing yet it doesn’t show on the stat sheet. If it’s a rusher they can double or triple team them and it opens up for the other rushers, cornerback they just refuse to throw at the corners way. It’s easier for a quarterback to win these awards because they touch the ball the most. On this game, the Eagles defense completely dominated and destroyed the Chiefs offense while Chiefs defense was just run down by Hurts passing and legs. The only thing positive the Chiefs had was they stopped Barkley from having a great game. When has a team ever put in their backups in the Super Bowl?

Sorry, yes—I mostly remember Manning from that team and slipped in saying Colts. Hawks we’re up 36-0 at one point.
I don't buy that. They could have given it to either DeJean (pick 6/3 tackles) or Sweat (2.5 sacks/3 tackles). When Von Miller won MVP in SB 50, he had 2.5 sacks & 5 tackles.
Historically, QBs have always touch the ball the most. They always touched it the most way back in the old fashioned single-wing offenses where the QB was basically another RB (the old "3 yards & a cloud of dust" offense. Lol). What's changed is the evolution of the forward pass which has brought a whole new dimension to the game of football.
This starts back with Johnny Unitas & Broadway Joe becoming one of the first prolific passers in a new offensive formation/scheme where the forward pass was emphasized & was important as running the ball (the first "Golden Arm" characterizations & prototype of the modern marquee QB).
Nowadays the pass is more important than running the ball. High-octane passing offenses with elite-arm QBs will put up points in record time. And with a high-octane passing game it's easier to come back from large deficits. Good offensive coordinators become a premium in the league.
I've been reading some literature about the history of the "air raid" offense initially created by Hal Mumme & the late Mike Leach. The Offense is shotgun spread formation with 4 or 5 WR sets & either one RB or empty backfield. It's ~70% passing designed to score fast & frequent, and provide the ability to come back from large deficits. And with the incredible HS QB talent seen every year, more & more college teams are going with air raid or it's varation the "zone-read spread offense" (note: the first QB to run an "air raid" offense was Kliff Kingsbury under Mike Leach at Texas Tech, and of course Mahomes ran the air raid when he played at TT under Kingsbury).
And with those college studs throwing 70% of the time, those skills are going to be highly sought after by the NFL in a pass-oriented league. And add to the fact that some of these passing monsters are also some of the best athletes on the field. These insane hybrid QB/RB RPO guys that can beat you with their arm or feet have changed the game to another level. Not even Johnny U could have predicted this. The QB & passing talent is - and always will be - the image of the NFL. And with 8 out of the 10 last drafts where QBs were taken #1 (and make that probably #1 again this draft)...what does that tell you guys?

Sure, but then they would still be left to pick between Dejean and Sweat--they go with the easy thing and just choose the QB, sort of the default option.
