Combined with the fact that he escaped with Niki Terpstra in the final, and couldn't finish it off. (as was to be expected, Terpstra has the stronger sprint)

I get the feeling that this wasn't the plan.

He must of done a reasonable ride to get with terprstra at the finish? I guess a win would of justified that he should of got a spot on the tour team. So your saying he went against team tatics or plans?

Hahahaha @ Rabo.

Weening should idd look for another team, but that goes for most ambitious Dutch Rabo riders.

Weening was at the front for the last 70km's.
Rabo should have done a lot of things differently. Having just Tankink, Weening, van Emden and Leezer in the final group couldn't have been the plan.
Then Gesink goes all out on the last climb for no good reason, then Moerenhout and Boom almost cclose the gap in the last KM's. Almost...

From what I could see they f-cked up Vacansoleil pretty good, but did almost everything wrong besides that.

Bad day for Rabobank. First their new headquarters in Utrecht burns down, and now they lose a race that they should win pretty much by default

Unknown yet. Started at 2 o'clock this morning. Took about 5.30 hours for it to be controlled.

This is the headquarters of the actual Rabobank, the bank that is :p, not the cycling team's HQ

I think I saw Kroon on screen for a second or something. Probably won't see much more of his team next month :D

That one is in Vienna right? :D

But seriously, Gesink seemed to go all out on that last climb and the Skil guy (didn't recognize him, Vissers maybe?) could easily follow him. What was Gesink doing? It didn't look like he was setting up Boom or Koos.

Yes, you will only see the rainbow jersey on the step of the parisian podium!

In typical Dutch fashion, Gesink finds away to stuff it up!;) - Oops, they can't all stuff it up because it is the Dutch champs. You guys should go to the aussie champs in January! It was 45oC for the whole day and I cooked like a sausage on the BBQ.

Gesink rode on the "cobbles", the other guy in the gutter. Looked quite stupid by Gesink, actually. He probably thought: let's give it a shot, after all I'm the strongest Dutch rider, so I should at least try to do something. But this course just wasn't for him. I don't know if any Dutch championship will ever be.

BTW, re: your comment about ambitious Dutch riders being better off elsewhere: who exactly?

I saw the race live, I was on adsteeg

I didn't see the TV coverage therefore, but from what I saw I think Rabo failed tactics. The 2nd last lap there was a group of 5 rabo's + ruygh, terpstra, honig and a Skil guy.

And the last lap suddenly Weening and Terpstra were gone from that group without other rabo's
You don't have to be a genius to know Terpstra always outsprints Weening.
And then they started too late with Boom and Moerenhout in the pursuit
I was on the foot of the final climb, and Boom and Moerenhout were still 20 meters behind. Too much at that point. So Terpstra easily won :D

Really didn't understand Rabo tactics but hey, if they wanted to lose, mission accomplished :p

@ak-zaaf, I didn't know Gesink attacked. But at the finish he looked like he just had a training ride. No signs of fatigue whatsoever.
Maasberg is REALLY short though. Have climbed it myself before.

Has nothing to do with climbing fast. A good sprinter can hang on to Alberto Contador on the Maasberg.. Seriously. It's 500m and simply not hard

Yes and yes.
Ballan looked good yesterday. Kroon was mixing it at one point, today.
Your team's form appears to be OK.

Norwegian nationals will be live from around 16.50 CET: http://www.procycling.no/article2933460.ece

Right now there is a live ticker in Norwegian and images from the goal when the riders go passed on each round.

Reports say that Hushovd is a little ill and has lost his voice but is still riding but might have to abandon.

It has been tough for poor old Kaarsten so that is good. Ballan was riding well at suisse so it was a good ride by him and Mauro to get that result in the nationals. Hopefully Burghardt, the american and swiss bmc boys can do something in their national championships tonight.:)

I saw Karsten once. But one man teams always fail at championships, Rabo reacted immediately to Kroon and Maaskant (but not to Terpstra lol)

What was the atmosphere like? It looked pretty dead on tv.

It was very hot.
And very early for South-Limburg standards :D probably most of the local villagers went to church hahaha

No but it was really quiet were I was standing, at the foot of the climb (at the rotonde).
At the top of the climb there were many people though.

Must say a race is pretty hard to follow as live spectator. The speaker didn't make much sense

It's 30 °C over here (in the shade), so I imagine it's much the same where Tifosi is. By Belgo-Dutch standards, that's pretty damn hot.

In general, just look at the Rabo TDF selection. I don't think Maaskant would get a place.
Rabo's CT team brings us great talents like Boom and Gesink who easily adapt to the big leagues. Lesser guys are pushed into a helping role way too early in their career, logical since Rabo's budget demands they always ride for the win.

Maaskant is a good example, he's getting great chances in a slightly smaller team, while Langeveld came to Rabo from a smaller team and has a lot more pressure on him in the classics they both aim for. If I was someone like van Winden I'd have gone to a Pro-Conti team where there is less pressure and more chances for a free role.

Some younger riders at Rabo had to help Menchov win a GT while they weren't exactly ready for that. That can destroy you.

But you could argue both ways, look at Kruiswijck last Giro.
