New bike sponsor for Team Astana 2010?

I think we will be seeing them ride this:

They are going to get Kazakhstan's number one bicycle manufacturer, Altynai's Bicycle Making Super Donkey,(something must get lost in the translation) on board.

Here is their top model

Well who is out there without a ProTour team?

Bianchi - Barloworld
Cyfac
-
BH - Ag2r (not going anywhere)
Giant - Rabobank
Specialized - Quick Step, Saxo Bank
Trek - Radio Shack, shack, shack shack...
Cannondale - Liquigas
Colnago -
DeRosa - ACQUA & SAPONE - CAFFE MOKAMBO
Focus - Milram
Scott - Columbia
Pinnarello - Caisse d'Epargne
Canyon - Silence/Lotto
Willier - Lampre
Merckx - doubtful with eddy and Lance's relationship
Fuji - Fuji Servetto
Stork -
Ciöcc - old ties with the Soviet National Team
Orbea - Never leaving
Felt - Garmin
Look - Look
La Pierre - Francaise des Jeux
Author - PSK WHIRLPOOL - AUTHOR
Cervelo - CTT

Feel free to fill in the ones already taken.

Bianchi is already tied to a strong Pro Continental team Barloworld, can not see them leaving for an iffy Astana.

Unless BBox drops out, probably not. Maybe Time wants to branch out and have multiple teams.

Giant, Specialized, Merida, Fuji, Trek with multiple teams, all but Trek attached to the big three Taiwanese manufacturers.

Look, Bianchi, Colnago, Willier, Ridley...all way too small to budget for 2 teams.

ProTour has min 25 closer to 30 riders.

All with at least 2 road bikes, and a TT bike. Then replacement on broken ones...

looking at €100,000 outlay. figuring a 15-20% net profit on frames for the manufacturer/brand, that would take 200-300 frames sold, just to cover their cost. Easily doubling that to make up for lost revenue on the ones sent to the team. Time, materials, labor all add up.

How does a Colnago or Pinarello make up the money lost on 2 pro tour teams.

Think it will be a mid sized player taking a shot. If Contador stays then a name shows up. Maybe even Orbea, but I somehow doubt it.

Time was up to three a couple years ago (Bouguyes, Cofidis, & QuickStep).

I personally wouldn't mind seeing Fondriest return to the ProTour, but they've got that Continental team right now, so they're probably out.

Prince frameset $4500 in the US.

Dealer gets about 30-35% markup. (Takes 35% just to pay all the bills...)

So Dealer pays $2950

That means that Colnago is making about $500 a frame, and if memory serves, the prices are set for a year, so when you figure in a cratering Dollar it could be more like €275-350 per frame depending on the day.

So that divided into €100,000 is a hell of a lot of bikes.

Profit in the bike business is pretty slim.

Hey everyone, new to the forum. Well can't imagine Astana with Trek or BMC for that matter (!!)-maybe they will go with someone like Kestrel who are currently with Rock Racing.....It may also be a possibility that one of the manufacturers who are with one team may expand........In the end I think Astana will be with a company that is trying to break into the mainstream (cube maybe etc)
