That is maybe the mark of a company stating they know there's a problem so they go ahead and patch it, instead of fixing it.

That's funny, especially since there are pros using Shimano that also use chain catchers.

How would you fix dropping a chain?

I think its called research and design, not give up and attach a chain catcher.

Not saying its wrong to use a chain catcher only that Sram decided to built it in which to me is like giving up and saying, yes our front derailure has issues. Shimanno and Campy just go on with out it (being built in).

Never hear so much **** in my life
Every team on every group uses chain catches on cobbled races, it is part of PRO preparation.
Namby pamby clinber types who cry when they hit bump roads like Andy don't put them on because they worry about 25g (even though the probably have ballast on anyway) If you check out he bikes rolled out by the boys the ride cobbles all the time they usually leave the chain catchers on even on smooth mountain stages
Since BB30 and giant shells the type that mounts on the Front Der is becoming a necessity, previously there would have been a dog fang, which is just harder to see

Wow, looks like the Tour 2010 had its effect on SRAM afterall, the Andy Schleck add on:

Another pic:

Isn't the FD on the first pic mounted a 'little' high?

Needs a ton more vents for a "road" helmet. Not bad otherwise, except the logo.

Much of our racing season is conducted in conditions where the venting in existing helmets is such that you freeze your noggin without some kind of additional headgear (cap, ear warmers, maybe even a beanie on really bad days).

Given that, why not wear one of these and get (small, but nonzero) aerodynamic benefits?

They claim is saves you 17s over 40km or something like that but surely if you're in the slipstream of the rider in front then it doesn't really matter?

Is an aerodynamic helmet really necessary in a road race?

No, but I'm sure it's necessary for smashing down a bike path at 28 kmh in your clip on aerobars. This helmet looks fredtastic!

Only if your off the front with a charging peloton working to bring you back.

I wouldn't be surprised to see these at the Olympics. The British team at the worlds last year wore different kinds of modified aero road helmets.

As much as this looks like something from Kiwi (remember those?), I wouldn't be shocked to see more than one in London.

Gerard Vroom's view on the claims of Trek's new aero Madone appeared at the bottom of his TdF predicitons. Funny, though of course he probably made the same claims about the S3 Cervelo

"But as we now know, all of the above is nonsense. Trek has unveiled a new Madone that saves 2min per hour, so that’s around 3 hours saved over the entire Tour. I know Frank Schleck says he’s not a contender, but that’s a nice buffer I would think. So my final prediction is Frank Schleck as the winner of the 2012 Tour, with a 2 hour advantage over the rest of the field."

Sounds like a big bowl of sour grapes. Vroom only wishes he could design, build and then sell the stuff Trek makes. Be their size and be in their financial position. Now that the 'test team' is no more, their hay days are over..and their bottom line says so. If it weren't for the tri guys, cervelo would be history.

I always dismiss any 'salesman' who slams the competition rather than talk about their products 'advantages'.

What Cav was wearing at the worlds was an S-Works Prevail wrapped in cling film! Very innovative and low budget aero if you ask me.

And yes, the Giro Aero helmet looks like my first MTB helmet from 1989 (Giro - Hammerhead) which was ridiculously hot although it had more air vents. To quote some commentator at this year's TDF "Their must be a competition going on this year to show off the ugliest helmet."

You gotta feel for the Rabo guys who have to wear this ugly crap.

new smartphone stem concept from trek, won't be a production option. But the big question does something like this fall under cool? crazy? or just plain dumb? ;)

BOTH

At this rate they'll eventually have a 10" touch screen on there

With wifi, gps, sonar/radar, satalite uplink, and road scanner.

I'm not a fan of having the computer on the stem - for my position (more upright, stem up-angled a bit), it's too close in.

Though I do like the idea of having the computer centered, rather than off to one side a bit - the mounts coming out for Garmins that put it out in front of the handlebar intrigue me. But I'd have to get a Garmin first. ;)
