Couldn't disagree more. Banal, meaningless and pretentious: anyone involved should be ashamed of themselves.

Shame is a concept that works well in lets say Japan, in western culture it's more about guilt. So basically i assume you feel they are guilty of bad taste or i assume you find it pretentious, for them to picture themself as some sort of colossal gods. One could i guess agree but then again top sporting events and leagues in western culture are more or less all about that.

Said that and what it comes down to, for me, is they seem to care, they go that extra mile, they do the work, invest the effort. On where the rest are lacking or are just being lazy.

PS. Last year they did a series on kids dreaming, of winning the Tour. What i can tell you it deeply inspired Rogla to reach for it.

For me going the extra mile would be to get a proper visual designer in to create something that actually looks good on the riders.

Focussing on the fluff around animations of how they revealed it and using a word salad of meaningless phrases to explain it, imo misses the point, they'll all be forgotten very rapidly, the images of the team in the kit in the race won't.

They had a good idea,maybe, but have created something thats far too intricate and fussy in the detail. Equally i presume the women will wear it for TdFF, that goes nowhere near Florence or involves the Renaissance, so it doesnt work for me as a style design.

But we shall see how Red Bull Bora, assuming they intend to announce themselves for Le Tour, do theirs, but they can't do much worse.

No no, i am explicitly talking about Primož Roglič, ex ski jumper now pro cyclists. Hope that settles it.
And his determination to win the Tour de France (only GT he doesn't have, top prize in the sport, passport to much greater wealth and fame) came mainly from an animation of fictional kids having a daydream while at a funfair psted on a couple of sites in the hope of selling a second choice jersey colour combination.

Yes. Of course.

@Armchair cyclist

You wouldn't believe, on how profound effect such things can have, especially if all other kids out there can dream such dreams, just supposedly not you.

As for top prizes, fame, fortune ... Rogla already has all that in the bag so it's not about that.
Do tell me about the Tour de France title and complete set of Grand Tours he has.

Can you cite any time when he has said that the promotional campaign for that jersey was a source of inspiration to him. I would be intrigued to read his account of the impact it had on his training and motivation.

@Armchair cyclist

You luckily don't have to read about it as Tour is just around the corner. Training, inspiration. motivation, impact ... all seen first hand. As for citing something you were excluded from, no real need for that. On what makes sense to cite is things like both Rogla and Bora agreeing they are training hard, are inspired, motivated, will try to make an impact ... This is all over the news lately, on where both Rogla and Bora are open about it, wanting to win the Tour. Not sure if it's all about money and fame, Rogla is already a superstar after all, so it's about more than that.

As for our discussion. I still stand by my claim that Visma is doing a much better job, when it comes to media creation and campaigns, then most of the other teams on where the approach is much more amateurish.

I'm not sure what you think I was excluded from. You claimed that Roglic was inspired to "reach for" the Tour de France by a "series on kids dreaming, of winning the Tour" run as a promotional campaign by Jumbo Visma (as they then were).

I asked you to substantiate that claim: you have singularly failed to do so. I am intrigued to know how much less effort you think he and his team would be putting into his preparations for the Tour this year if he had not experienced the influence of that video. Please either provide your evidence or withdraw the claim.

As to the creativity of V|LAB's PR team, you are welcome to your opinion; mine (that they are a bunch of chalatans spouting over-produced meaningless drivel) is unchanged.

First of all no, it doesn't work like that, nobody owes anybody anything. But OK, you are i guess judging credibility, or are trying to force it, a bit, for whatever reason involved and now it's up to me to go that extra mile or not, for you. Fair enough, i will do it.

Quality of production is in my opinion not all that bad, sort of fairytale cinematic, almost like some soft cringe alike genre, in a good way. Anyway, right from the start, look at the poster on the wall, isn't one superstar missing? Doh.

Then it goes on an on about true dreams, friendship ... and ends with a nice owl sound, picture perfect. All kids can dream that dream, to win the Tour, that is on how i perceive the message. Well, all bar one kid that is.

Roglic will be replaced by Dutch rider Dylan van Baarle on the Tour de France from July 1-23, the only change to the team's lineup of eight riders ...

One can only imagine on how it would look this year, Primož, if Jonas only has 10% of participating, then surely you understand ... Anyway, Rogla acted on it and didn't talk all that much about it:

We’ll have a single leader strategy: Roglic.

Rolf Aldag.

First encounter with (healthy) Jonas, before that Jonas was miles better then the rest, in a league of his own, Rogla not yet in peachy form:

I agree that it's OK if we say it's down to personal opinion and preferences. Personally i watched most of their documentaries and i feel that the production quality is high. On top of that i don't believe it's enough to attribute your superstar, by opening up Photoshop and attaching picture of a head on something and say well there you have it. It shows lack of respect and well, it's amateurish, this is on how most teams are still doing it. For example Froome will skip the Tour, likely he gets to make a poster, or something.

Pretty sure he reached for it as early as 2020.

As for how they announced the new jersey:
A team could "announce" a new jersey by just... turning up to the team presentation in it.

You are original content creator, Christmas calendar. You hence know better then that. With such attitude there would never be a Christmas calendar, so thanks for doing it i appreciate it.
