Longer climbs and those long false flats seem to be a lot better at creating gaps in classic races than short, steep climbs.

He blew it in the climb when he caught Nyenget and went in behind him. He should’ve continued all the way to the top with everything he got. You need to be prepared to lose to win, and he didn’t dare to go all out.

Cologna said exactly the same as a commentator, attack him right when you catch him before the descent.
Salvadori and Nöckler with good pursuit results, at least they are improving.
Klee just said that he wants a podium in the Val di Fiemme classic race.
Lapalus and Moch only 2sec behind the 2nd place on the gc, they can get on the overall podium!

I think this kind of course works really well in classic.
Amundsen is looking completely dominant, its a shame guys like Klæbo, Krüger and obviously the Russians are not here to give him a run for his money. The rest of the podium is out in the open as it is in the women's side even though Diggins still remains as favourite.

I’m keeping Moch as favorite to become 2nd. His form is great, hes been doing good classic this year and he should be magnificent in the final climb.
Lapalus have previously been slightly disappointing in the final climb (but last year only 20 sec slower than Moch), but he should be able to do very good in this form. The Norwegians is likely the stronger on Saturday, but I’m not too confident about them in the climb.
Klee is a wild card. He’s been really bad in the climb before, but he’s obviously better this year than ever before and he’s never had any reason to be motivated for the climb before.
Valnes have no chance.
The classic mass start in Val di Fiemme tends to be very hard and often with serious gaps, so that’s an advantage for the Norwegians.

Schlicki thrown out of the race for cheating. He tried to put a ski in the classic lane, so that Hennig and Carl could ski over it and get rid of snow sticking to the bottom of their skis.

Öberhof should have already been removed from the biathlon World Cup calendar and replaced by another venue, every year something happens whether its lack of snow, strong winds or fog.
However, this year it seems that even the cross-country World Cup will return there...

Apparently the German women were pissed at him, they didn't know what he wanted to do, and yelled at him to stop.

Probably the best thing that could happen for German cross-country skiing, Schlicki forced to take a back seat and stay away...
It just needs a different calendar slot. The other problems are just part of the Oberhof experience. It's been a few years since we've had a proper "sliver of brown ice down a sodden forest track" Oberhof weekend so we were overdue. Oberhof is usually better for racing than Ruhpolding even if the latter has the stronger atmosphere and more reliable conditions. Ruhpolding's layout just makes the shooting too easy unfortunately, whereas Oberhof is super hard for both disciplines.
In all honesty we are probably past the point of two German weekends being justified with the number of countries involved in biathlon, or at least we certainly would be if the Russians and Belarusians weren't excluded as a venue like Khanty, Raubichi or Tyumen' could step in. But with no Russian fans to cross over to Kontiolahti and the cost of relocating the whole circus to North America meaning it's not done every year, I can't see IBU turning away the guarantees of that big passionate German crowd anytime soon.

They will never learn. If you want to race in soberhof, do it in Februar, not in early January.
Not exactly the course for her. If they use the full 5km course in Val Di Fiemme, it will be much more suited for her.

Too bad about German skis. Carl and Hennig looked good early, and were forcing the pace.
Niskanen and Karlsson could have done more with this stage, and they would have if conditions allowed it. Niskanen will I am sure try to go hard the whole way in Italy, because the final climb isn’t suited for her, even though she’s had top 10’s there in the past. Karlsson is in a better position, but she too, will need to go hard and try to gain back as much as she can. If she’s less than 30 seconds behind before the final stage, she has a chance. Weng is in a very similar position. I think she and Slind could team up for the classic race. The though Weng is known as a notorious wheelsucker.

The course in Val die Fiemme have too many hills for Slind to be a dominating force going to the front and kill of people with high speed.

Tbf, Weng was the only one who gave Karlsson any help in the Toblach pursuit, so she isn't always the most negative racer. She might also fear blowing up if she works too much, we're talking about neurotic Heidi after all...

IIRC it’s partly because of the edges (the edges on skating skis are made slightly difference as they have a very different contact phase with the snow than classic skis) and then it’s about the contact flat with the snow where classic skis are significantly longer and have a different “spenn” (Norwegian word). Im not sure the proper English word for it, but according to Google translate it should be “span”. Meaning how strong the core of the skis are (Classic skis are much harder and with a higher bow because of the kick wax and the power output in diagonal stride).
Depending on the conditions and snow structure it’s better with longer or shorter contact flat and better with hard “span” or softer.
Fischer and Madshus have some differences when it comes to these double poling skis that in my eyes can indicate that they themselves don’t really know what is the best. Madshus DP skis is very similar in geometry with the skating skis, but the edges are like classic skis (classic skis are created for stability when going straight forward in a classic track, so a bit different from skating edges), Fischer DP skis have also edges like the classic skis and a geometry that is much more in the middle (length similar to skating skis, but the span more similar to classic skis).
My take is that likely the ski geometry etc isn’t that much of a big deal between classic, skating and DP skis, the main factor is the difference is in sole structure )and wax products).
