A lovely day to be a Jacquelin fan, and with no pursuit to come, he can't ef that up.
After how strong his first lap was, I had half a mind he was going to collapse on lap 3 Simon Fourcade-style like he did a couple of times last year, but thankfully he remembered what pre-2022 Jacquelin was like for a day.

Diggins got humbled today in her favourite race. The Norwegian women seem to have taken a step forward this season, don't remember the last time they put 6 in the top10. In the men's side good win for Nyenget, without the Russians the Norwegians are unrivaled in distance skating races.

In biathlon nice to see Jacquelin win, maybe this is the season where he finally gets his sh*t together and manages to put up some sort of a challenge for the Norwegians.

I definitely expected a meltdown, but I've come to expect that in pretty much every race by now. We'll see if this will become a turning point for him.

Puyeo third in qualification. Almost sensational but I read the spaniards are getting help from the Italian waxers so maybe it’s the first time they have somewhat competitive skis.

Only two Swedish males through, combined with the non-existent results yesterday Swedish media and pundits are furious.

The relief and optimism of last week turns out to be short-lived, Winterton is back on the XC this week and so any semblance of actual analysis or neutrality can be discarded as a one-off accident..

Looking at how the Italians are doing their wax can't be that great...

But good to hear that they are helping out a smaller nation. The Andorran Altimiras also has Zorzi as his Skiman. For him the limiting factor is mainly his bad (V2) technique, his engine is great.

Watching the race with Italian commentary instead of Swiss one also makes you feel more stupid by the minute...

Irineu is also with the Åkerdæhlie group, though, no? Certainly his gear is from their set, same as the Brits, Maloney Westgaard and some of the lesser Norwegians. I presume Eiduka still as well, but we have sadly yet to see her this year.

His ski didn’t look great in the quarterfinal either. I guess italians just help him to get more waxer allowed on track. Sweden used to help Maloney but now I think it’s Iceland

Winterton fixated on the official timer for the lucky losers in the second semi-final to see if Ribom survives, seeming to not comprehend that seeing as the winning time for Hagström was already slower than the LL times, it was not possible for the 3rd/4th place finishers in the second semifinal to be faster than the LL times because, you know, then they would have beaten Hagström and Myhrvold and not been dependent on LL times at all...

I mean it was also enough just looking at the race and the intensity they were skiing at

Sundling is really flying in this early season. Hagström and Myhre also doing great.

Klæbo continues to dominate in the men's side even with his minor sickness. Happy to see Pellegrino back in the podium and these Holmboe brothers look promising.

A lot of less than perfect shootings today. I would love it if Davidová ends up winning. Both she and Jacquelin won their latest WC victories in the first part of the 2021-22 season.

Franziska Preuss‘s ability to miss out on top placements in individual starts by tenths of a second is crazy.
The only thing she's worse at than being clutch is being healthy.

I HATE, HATE, HATE having a Mass Start on the first race week (since its startlist is heavily tilted by World Cup placement, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy who competes because they have more chances to race) but this race would almost PERFECTLY set up a pursuit, with all these inexperienced names like Tannheimer, Michelon, Randby and Andersson up near the front, as well as some other surprise names like Minkkinen; plus you've got a lot of very strong competitors like Tandrevold, Simon, Braisaz-Bouchet, Chauveau and Voigt deep in the field.

The French looked worse than I expected today apart from Michelon. Elvira Öberg is looking by far the fastest skier so far but she often fades a bit after Christmas.

Great win for Davidova and Minkkinen with a surprising podium for the home nation.

One thing is for sure, I wouldn't sleep well if an armed Lampic was guarding my country's broders...

They're all going well early, yes, but the fact that all three of them skipped the 10k didn't hurt either.

Hagström and Myhre and sprinters. They have no business in a World Cup distance race unless it’s a mini tour, tds, or someone is sick and need a replacement, and that’s not guaranteed either.

We don't disagree on that, and I simply pointed it out, not necessarily a criticism. Both of them have skied plenty of distance races and tbh, I hardly consider 10k to be a real distance race anyway, though with the climbing yesterday I can see why they wouldn't be interested in.

Sure, but again, they would need to earn a spot to race the distance events.
