Svendsen's google translated thoughts:

- Right now I'm in very good shape. At 20 km, I felt that it was a gulløp [golden race], it's the best I've felt in years [this year] in terms of form. Still, I was one minute behind. It's insanely frustrating. But then I know that the form is in place, the skis in place now will be good, he said to TV 2 Sport.

The skis to Svendsen worked well uphill, but was like syrup descents.

- It was special. I felt really good, I took in people and passed them uphill. Towards the stadium is the long grin moves, and I had to lie completely on the tail to them ahead at all able to keep up. It is very unusual. Generally it is much easier to lie back, then you really just glide easily on the page. It was a lousy experience simply.

in anticipation of the relay that will start very soon, i tried to understand what journalists meant by the 'easy course that should favour northug'...

funny, but i could not find the image of the actual course profile  none on the fis' own site nor on the official sochi site.

the best i could find was the standardized course description by fis.

the long story short, if compared to the lillehammer's 4x7.5 earlier in the season, it seems anything but easy.

heres why. today they will run

the long story short, if compared to the lillehammer's 4x7.5 earlier in the season, it seems anything but easy. in fact, it is brutal.

here’s why.

today they will travel 33 % longer, at higher 1500 m elevation (vs. 200m) , more than twice as much total climbing per lap (353m vs. 153m), in soft sub-zero snow (+10C vs -7C). Only the final climb in Lillehammer was longer (47m vs. 32).

It seems the strategy for those willing to avoid sprinting against northug will be to have him chase and tire out over the multiple smaller hills.

thus i see the the swedes (or the russians) trying to get an early gap (both in the classic and skating legs) and if possible to force individual time trials between petter, hellner and vyleg in the last leg. i doubt olsson will be able to drop sundby and legkov in his skating leg…but if the swedes or the Russians manage to gap northug by 30 seconds, his chances imo, will be dim.

But it is way to unpredictable to bet on any outcome…

first impressions...they've completed one loop.

at least in gliding down, i did not notice big differences btwn the faves, for some reason roenning now looks under pressure together wth japarov, of course after the pressure applied by the swede...

lego went on the 3d lap 40 sec behind, sundby ober 1 min. I can see them shrinking it by 15-30 seconds at MOST but to compete against hellner with this much gap i only wish upon my enemies :D
