Is there any logistical reason they don't mix up the skiathlon and chamge the order?

The only thing that comes to mind is that uf loops overlap and they do the Free first, they would destroy the classics lap.

But that's just assumption. I might be completely wrong.

No, that's usually not a problem, it's just FIS being FIS. Changing up the order, like they change the technique in the other races, would actually be interesting and something that @Libertine Seguros has been campaigning for since years ago.

Swedes are gonna Swede…

any idea if they meanwhile changed the structure of the sport in Russia? As far as I can see, even if FIS follows the IOC advice, that would still only apply to athletes with no link to the military.

Once the conflict ends, it won’t matter.

If Johaug is in form to win skiathlon and mass start, why don't you think she wins the individual?

Does Svahn being out change your mind about the team sprint?

When the skiathlon discipline was new it was tested on lower level in Norway and I’ve actually raced a skiathlon with skating first.

I think on international level it should be possible to do it, but I think it would lead to some strange ski differences.

In FIS races the skis for the second part of the skiathlon race has to be put down by the athlete before start. That means that the skis would be lying in the snow for about half an hour before the skis will actually be used. In many snow conditions that would be very bad for the wax.

The second option is that the service crew can put the skis down just before the athletes come. That would be better in many ways, especially when there are changes in weather conductions, but this adds a bit of an unfair and random factor to it, as it would be a huge advantage for the big teams with a big service team that can keep testing (and ideally with wax technicians that are same weight as the athletes) intensively all the way until the deadline for putting them in. I think this would generally make the difference between the countries with most resources and better wax technicians and the smaller nations bigger.

For skating skiis it’s not a problem to be waiting in the snow.

In some 50 km classic races where it’s been allowed to change skis we have seen several times that it’s been having a huge effect after the ski changes where athletes have been looking great, then changed to new skis and suddenly been dropped with visibly sh*t skis. In skiathlons with classic at the end I think this “random element” would be a constant factor.

Just turned on to watch the semi finals/finals to find euroports is no more. So that me not having access to cross country/biathlon/nordic combined or cycling anymore unless I'm prepared to pay £30 a month (spoiler, I'm not).

Pellegrino looks so good, but it will be hard (impossible?) to beat Klæbo
Also the only one who has upped his game in descending (accelerating into the downhill) and cornering so much that he isn't loosing much ground to Klaebo there.
Good sprint course, a bit narrow, but I like it.
Skistad did what she could and raced smart, but a pure sprinter like her can only do so much against Sundling in soft condition.

First medal for Finland and it's both skating and a sprint, someone should check on @Libertine Seguros !

The disciples of St. Eero of Turtola are currently holding a debate as to whether or not to revoke Vuorinen's citizenship for violating distance classic, the only religion stronger than Lutheranism in Finland.

Karlsson is better in classic and I think that will enable her to beat Johaug.

Sweden should absolutely win the team sprint, Norway's best sprinter, Skistad, isn't exactly well suited to that race unlike Sundling.

As for today, surprising bronze medal for Vuorinen and great semi-final for Gina del Rio reaching the semi-final.

Del Rio is a really good skate skier. Very good, smooth technique. In softer conditions that really helps.

Still ok for Live/catch-up Biathlon, if you sign up for a free account here...

Utterly shyte commentary though (compared to Patrick & Mike), from yank Chad Salmela and brit Ellen Ellard.
Fortunately 'International Audio' option gives ambience-only soundtrack.
