Why all the interest? I mean by the feds, not this forum? I know why LA has attracted such ire on this forum - he's a truly smug *******, but why are the feds so interested in doping in such a minor sport. And I haven't heard the "USPS were playing with federal money" in a while, which makes more sense to me....

See, any other professional American sport is way more rife with doping than cycling is right now - the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and so is college football...ask any trainer...so what gives?

Assuming this isn't a fraud investigation the only thing I can think of is that the Feds bowed to European pressure given the cultural significance of cycling...

The Juan Pelota account also included a rather acidic message in Spanish which may have been directed at federal investigator Jeff Novitzky, who is currently in Europe investigating claims that Armstrong and the US Postal Service team used performance enhancing substances.

“Hey Jeff, como estan los hoteles de quatro estrellas y el classe de business in el aeroplano? Que mas necesitan?” said a message, also posted on Friday.

Translation: “Hey Jeff, how are the four star hotels and the business class in the airplane? What more do you need?”

Armstrong’s spokesman Mark Fabiani once again criticised the federal investigation this week, repeating his claims that it was a waste of money.

Novitzky met with officials and police representatives from Italy, France and Belgium at Interpol’s base in Lyon. It is thought that the investigation is getting closer to a conclusion.

I don't know where you are from my friend but maybe that has an effect on what we perceive. I'm in the UK, Marion Jones was not a big mega star over here we have others, however what I know of her comes largely from my reading and TV. I don't know much about her before the BALCO thing broke other than the wins however knew little of her personality.

Anyway, I found the film compelling because this was someone at the pinnacle of her sport facing the biggest demon possible and she did it in public and stood up to it, that took courage rather than running and hiding or running to CAS.

I can respect that but I'm not a fan of athletics and the lies were maybe more of an issue for Americans and fans of Track and Field, could I respect Armstrong the same way?? I don't think so, he has singularly done more harm to a sport I love more than any other, i don't think I can respect anything he now says.

The highlighted paragraph is the point of contention here. She did not stand up for anything. Just check out the interview she did with Jon Stewart while a guest on "The Daily Show"-

She states clearly that she had no knowledge of what she was taking when she was training for the 2000 Summer Olympics, which is complete BS.

You can do a Google search and see how she was marinating in drug associations, from an ex-husband Olympic shot putter who failed 4 separate drug tests to her coaches. No way she's a stand-up gal.

Not sure if it's what you mean, but the Cols d'Eze and de la Madone above Nice are very popular for measuring condition and very commonly used by pros based in that area.
