As a pre-teen, I thought there was something vaguely sexual about these:

this generation sti, would make my hands hurt in the mountains of new mexico.

when a click was a click, and a spring had some pull. they were heavy, but they could take surfing the pavement

everything is soft, by todays standards(needs)

When I was 12, watched the movie American Flyers. Marcus Sommers winning that first stage was all I needed.

After that, I watched Breaking Away, and wanted to know everything I could about cycling (especially Italian). I've always wanted a Campagnolo equipped bike, and this year, I finally got one (BMC SL01 w/ Campy Centaur 10 speed).

I must say though, the early 90s Dura Ace stuff WAS quite easy on the eyes. I also liked Sachs New Success stuff, although it just seemed to be a slight knock-off of Campagnolo stuff.

The other thing that tipped off my obsession with cycling was Le Tour, but that was because Marco Pantani just seemed so animated in the races, and seeing the world through rose coloured glasses as a teenager, well, I just wanted to ride that fast.

All the guys who had decent jobs in our Saturday morning bunch bought these shades.

At one time, I would probably have killed for a pair, I thought they were so beautiful:

Times change, however. For notwithstanding the hair, nowadays they look kinda silly to me. :)
