there's another change in the route...
Stage 17 will finish in Tirano instead of Sondrio, due to "safety issues".
Tirano is right after the descent of Aprica, so that stage is not anymore the longest of the race.

Dunno
Personally I would use those kms to put Moncenisio just before Finestre, but that way stage 20 would get 260 kms long...

Makes for a better stage.

Wonder if they'll tack on those kms to another stage.

Qhat? It makes and awful, unimportant stage. Before that it was a pretty good one, with a short and steep clib near the end after a dangerous for the team of the leader, long hard medium montain stage. Now it just sucks.

Anyway, there has been a ton of changes in hte route. Montevergine, Orvieto, Castelfidardo.. all have some chages.

I disagree. It was a stage too easy for GC riders to get a gap and too hard for sprinters leaving a boring stage for a break.

Nothing wrong with making a pointless stage shorter considering the overall difficulty of the race.

from what i read in the stories the guys who climbed it posted on that site. the climb doesn't really end in the middle of nowhere so it prolly has some space at the top and ya this would be the thoughest climb in europe. its ranked 1 on climbbybike on the difficulty ranks.

tho prolly only a handfull of riders would be able to cycle all the way up and it would prolly need to be a no time cut kind of stage.

well, Scanuppia is a little too hard for a race... I guess on the 45% one can easily walk faster than ride... They should put some kind of penalties to avoid that. Something like "if you put a feet down, 1 minute penalty".
Probly Zomegnan would change that in "if you put a feet down, you're OUT" :D

However I'd rather to see this climb on a Giro

The heat at the top could be a problem though ;)

Tough one. A very tough and long HC climb with almost a Zoncolan on top.

Are they using any of those lower roads in the Etna climbs this year?

How high could the theoretically go?

no, this year they're gonna finish at 1900m.
The climb I posted is the longest possible, from the sea to the Torre del Filosofo, that is right before things get dangerous:rolleyes:
Otherwise one can always go straight into the crater you know:D

The we have Nibali, Scarponi, Rodriguez, Anton, Serpa, Rujano, Sella... who else?

It's not a bad field
I just hope they all get safe to the mountains and don't crash anywhere.
