if rujano is in good form he will be up there with the best but he doesn't look like a clear winner to me. contador is better and if he is in good form i don't see rujano beating him nor any1 for that matter

contador is more explosive so rujano will be in trouble in beginning of climbs but the longer the climb he stronger rujano gets. he is truely from a different planet in this and also stronger even than contador. I don't say rujano will win this giro over contador but he is the only one who stands a chance. another important thing is, is dfat rujano doesn';t look back he keeps going and going in hus incredible rhythm, great example is sestriere 2005 how he beat simoni, he kept pushing until he broke and he broke on something 4/5%. incredible power or more recently the vuelta colombia 2009 and also 2010 as well as tachira 2010, but these results may tell you less. when andy schleck goes he rides a hard rhytm a while adn then looks back as the goddamn coward that he is, rujano only sets on tempo and one goal and will so for the entire climb like ullrich used to do. this can break contador not the sudden speedchanges others try or short relays

overall rujano is much stronger than in 2005 which is normal since then he was 23 and now he is 28

also got to love nibali second year skipping the tour to focus on races he can actually win. thats something we don't see a lot this days cough gesink cough
I'm sure if Nibali were Dutch we wouldn't see him in the Giro either.

Come on, there's a couple of GT winners at the start, Contador will worry about those before he worries about Rujano.

anton( if he doesn't crashs's), michele and nibali(seems stronger in the climbs this year and he knows how to cut his losses when needed) should be up there aswell, and ofc we can't forget menchov and purito.

then there are some second tier guys who can surprise us, please allow me to be biased and say tiago machado may be a surprise tho i think his climbing hasn't looked that great lately.

this will be a great giro. lets hope all of this guys get there in top shape and with no health problems ( mostly rujano cus iirc i heard you say that he gets sick too easily)

it's not about contador having to worrie about rujano, it's about who has more of a chance of beating contador. menchov has never beaten him or even come close, neither have nibali or anyone else, only guy who stands a chance imo is rujano and perhaps scarponi for his unorthodox and aggresive way of racing. let's not forget that lampre and androni have the strongest climbing teams in this giro

Why has he sucked so bad in European racing, the past couple of years? Was it all part of the big plan to come and surprise all his rivals in the Giro 2011?

now you are overdoing it.

rujano has never been beaten contador cus he was never able to perform in europe cept the 2005 giro so he went back to south america.

also anto has beaten contador before. purito did it in last year's tour. just examples.

where did he suck then the last couple of years?? he didn't even race in europe the last couple of years. in 2008 after caisse debacle he left to venezuela and became a changed man when he got rid of that idiot manager of his, rujano was all in it for the money and he had succeded un that as he become multi millionaire thanks to unibet and quickstep but when he returned to gobernacion de zulia in 2009 and he won vuelta colombia, something changed inside him, he has always been ambition but just wrong mentality

it is risky because he could fall back but I think he won't.a friend of mine spoke to his personal trainer last year at isd who now works at saxo, he told me he was out of this world in physical tests. better than basso or contador he said. it's just that he is uncoachable and that is why I'm happy he has returned to savio, he choose savio over the money from movistar this year and that says a lot.

seems like we have reach'd an impass

btw i highly doubt rujano became "multi millionaire"

he earned good money but there are only a handfull of multi millionaire cyclists and they became that by racing in europe an entire carrer winning big races

Yeah I hope Rujano does well.

How about Pozzovivo? Remember someone saying he was one of the best climbers in the world, though I haven't seen any performances like that.

thats hardly multi millionaire in the true sense of the word. besides not everything you earn is profit. taxes, living costs, paying his own manager who prolly is as good as getting him good contracts as he is getting himself good contracts :p

i would be very disapointed if he backs down just cus the UCI won't appeal. would be very disrespectfull to the giro as a race and to his organizers/public. i reckon he would lose some italians fans by doing that.

It means Bjarne Riis would never allow him to ride the Giro if the WADA doesn't appeal.

Saxo is paying him 5mill a year, and not for him to ride the Giro. I don't think Contador is afraid of the competitors at the Giro. He's beaten them all before by many minutes.

There's still the Vuelta after the Tour you know.
