Eh, i'm actually pretty sure Mathieu can do a very good ITT and could finish well in the top 10 of this ITT. Just like Van Aert, he has no issues with sustained efforts up to an hour. But, this is one of the things (if you go back to the spring discussion about MVP vs WVA) that many people (including myself) meant with Van Aert's engine. In a longer ITT, i do believe Wout has more potential than Mathieu. Also, had Van Aert won PR (and i still believe he was the strongest in the race, just had too much bad luck), that we could have put the entire debate MVP vs WVA to rest. They are both insanely talented and strong riders. But they are not the same, and each has his own strengths and weaknesses. Though both seem to have more strengths and fewer weaknesses than about 95% of the pro peloton.Valv.Piti said:This was simply amazing - thats probably the one thing Mathieau CANT do. We have found it, guys. What a performance!!
Read my post again... not really saying Mathieu can't TT, but rather that he can't trash a WT-peloton like Wout did today. I totally agree that VDP most likely could top-10 today.Logic-is-your-friend said:Eh, i'm actually pretty sure Mathieu can do a very good ITT and could finish well in the top 10 of this ITT. Judging by instagram posts, Dan Bigham from Huub Wattbike track team has been working with riders from Jumbo Visma, including Van Aert, on their positions at both velodromes and altitude.Logic-is-your-friend said:Love is in the air

Also Campenaert is pissing his pants a bit for the national championship ITT:
https://sporza.be/nl/2019/06/12/victor-campenaerts-over-wout-van-aert/
He says this is the result of Van Aert working with TJV's coach Heijboer. He also says Van Aert's ITT position on the bike has improved.

I dont like it either, but we shouldnt forget that the Campenaerts back then wasnt going to win that TT. He wasnt a winner yet.

What a guy. Two stages, an ITT and a bunch sprint(!), in his first big stage race. WTF.
I think the off-road surface of Roland Garros suits him better. Nadal is already 33.Pantani_lives said:That only leaves one question unsanswered: can he win Wimbledon and the Tour de France in the same year?

Sorry, he's a 90s kid, which automatically makes it impossible for him to win Slams.
There's just the one ITT in this year's Tour, but yeah... he'll probably be the top favorite, if he keeps this kind of form.Wvv said:After his impressive Dauphiné time trial victory and today a dominant Belgian title in the strongest edition ever, should we consider him one of the absolute top contenders for the individual tt's in the upcoming Tour?

Not too hard.Velolover2 said:Is stage 3 too hard for him? I don't think he is a worse climber than Sagan and co.
