Certainly doesn't look good and unlike Froome he did get caught cheating, a HUGE difference as anyone who's taken part in competitions, whatever the level, knows what it takes to cheat...a lot, you basically give up on all you've trained for, not easy to "fix" that.

we don't know, Zakarin's positive could just be because his pharmacist contaminated his empty gel capsules

You're right, Froome hasn't been caught. Neither did another rider until years later but that didn't excuse the fact that there were giant red flags screaming "I'M DOPING". That he hasn't been popped on doping control to this point is irrelevant.
I'm a little confused as to the point you're trying to make about cheating being a hard thing to do...

Re:

Have you taken part in competitions, running cycling, triathlon, etc... ? If you have it should be pretty obvious that doping would be a BIG step, not a decision you would take "lightly", going to the "dark side", really.

My reference to Froome meant that it's bad enough when someone comes out of nowhere with no "history" so when someone who has one does, well...

Uh what? "You give up ON all you trained for"? huh

Things never change with you do they...here's a tip, before calling out another forum member :
1. Learn how to quote
2. Look up something on Google if you don't understand it

Zakarin should feel bad for doping, but Froome shouldn't feel bad because he hasn't tested positive yet?

Yes, I've been a competitor in various sports throughout my life but not as a professional. With that being said, I see what you're getting at but that's based on people being either 'good' or 'bad'. It would be a big step for a morally sound person with convictions but in reality that's not the case. There's plenty of athletes that can make that same decision without batting an eye because to them, you only get one shot, or just plug in one of the hundreds of reasons that people do what they do. To me it's as easy as black or white but it's not always that easy.

Amazing. All he has to do is get to 3% body fat and he'll be set for a GT win.

Says the guy who supports proven doper Hesjedal.

Maybe Zakarin only doped once too? ;)

So true, cyclingnews showing its most ridiculous face...

It's just sad.

The Santambrogio of 2015.

Let's hope he is the new Santambrogio rather than the new Froome. It's depressing to think that in two years time it may have become normal to be discussing this guy as a GT contender - like it has become with Froome.

Probably won't though because he is Russian not British, so the press and most fans probably won't give him such an easy ride.

Exactly.

What does make Zakarin worse than Froome, Contador, Hesjedal and so on? Nothing, really nothing. If his performance shows us anything at all, it is what you need to make it to the top. Tested positive once (steroids if i remember correctly), but was nowhere near his performance at the moment. So go big or go home...

Yowsers, nothing like that type of performance from a guy I've never heard of...only losing to Martin in the TT.

Also, this isn't the first time I've seen someone win the Romandie gc in the final tt despite having a mechanical, and also doing very well in a sprint earlier.

Of course the other guy won the sprint, and won the tt, unlike Zakarin who only placed third in both.

Thank God doping doesn't actually help in performances and pure will power and hard work are 10 x more important, regardless of what those jealous french tv programmes say.

Froome has cheated aswell. 2 seasons ago to be exact. During the Tour de France. Halfway up the second ascent of the Alpe d'Huez. Him and Porte clearly cheated the rules sending Porte to the car to get an energy bar.

Me love me those young French riders Barguil, Pinot and Bardet.

Let's hope they catch Zakarin at the Giro along with his doping role model Clentadoppucci. Is Scarponi racing? That would be another good one who is way overdue on being kicked out of cycling.

2005: Botero
2006: Evans
2007: Thomas Dekker
2008: Klöden
2009: Kreuziger
2010: Spilak
2011: Evans
2012: Wiggins
2013 & 2014: Froome

If you go back to 1999, you should go a little further and include 1998. Dufaux was absolutely hilarious.
